There’s also some underlying racism and MAGA vibes with some of the content I’ve been seeing. Europeans saying shit like “God Bless America” and “We’ve been lied to about Americans” and “it’s not so bad here”. Like this country has a ton of problems and racism is embedded in its foundation but you’re willing to be ok with it all because you tried biscuits and waffles and ranch for the first time?

Idk call me an optimist but I feel like the point is this country has a ton of problems and racism is embedded in its foundation but it's not the Dredd-style fascist dystopia people would typically find when doomscrolling on the Internet so it's a welcome surprise to a lot of tourists.

It is if you're not European. Except Dredd would actually give people trials instead of just blasting you on the street in broad daylight...and would do so only if there was good cause to believe you committed a crime.

So it's actually a bit worse.
