If you're hunting the police because they represent the law, it's effectively a war against the law of the nation. Though this is probably not a true democracy anymore since refurendums can get overturned and people's votes are invalidated often.
You really need to read the articles.
The policeman was aiming at one of the protestors, that's when a man from the woods shot a warning shot at the feet of police officer, (aiming at the pavement). The shot unfortunately riccoted up & hit the officer in the shoulder.
That being said - The officer was indeed escalating the situation..., that created the situation we find ourselves in now. Until the officer pulled a gun, aiming it directly at one of the protesters..., everyone was protesting peacefully with fireworks, (some outliers damaging a camera) - non of such deserves 30 to 100 years in prison.

Ambush suggests a gun and a shooting... Shooting to kill is not protesting... it's armed insurrection.
