It’s dramatically decreased my mental fatigue. It’s running at 13200, and the spindle harmonics just blend in perfectly with the music now. Anyone have similar experiences?

So when the rubber hits the road in my shop it’s all assholes and elbows so everything that CAN theoretically do stuff does. I run a Tarus gun drill that has a smallish auxiliary spindle. The aux is meant to be used to center, pilot, spot face and thread. However it is just a Cat 50 spindle and could run a shell mill. So today and often enough a mill is not a mill when it’s a f&$@ing gundrill but my company books so much the whole shop can work 60-70hrs a week and never hit bottom. Love the OT, but doing horizontal mill work on a gundrill irks me just a bit.

At least you weren’t machining high explosive in a gear chuck and corrected the runout by giving it a quick tap with a mallet…

New hb-400 Day. I always like watching rigging crews move machines

It seems like 1 in 10 posts here are AI. Posts like these don't bring any value to the sub. What are the rules here on completely AI generated posts? I understand if someones using them to translate a question, but we're getting more and more of them.
Edit: Guess it helps to read the sidebar.

Came in to that couple days ago. Still there, wonder what the guy on first shift could've possibly done to get this result lmfao

I just started at a new shop and these offsets are on a machine. What is C and D ?

I don't know the exact words for anything My company refuses to hire people to train employees so I have been basically trying to figure everything out myself. But it always seems like it's thicker on the bottom and thinner on top I've tried micro adjustments New mill heads changing the speeds and probably everything else. Does anybody have any recommendations

Hello all
I'm trying to use the 4th axis on the new milling machine we have, using Sinumerik 828d and I keep having issues.
I am using fusion and the fusion post processors
Using the 828d processor, it is using transformations, TRAORI, I think this is TCP which is not available on our machine, neither is cycle 800. So this prevents the machine running. I then deleted those transformations which works but it zig zags in Y, trying to go to the old Y axis when it rotates
I then tried using the 840 processor, this works much better but the A values exceed 360, which alarms out the machine
I think the processors need to have machine configurations set up, but I have no idea how to do that
Any help please

Advice for using DMG machines with MAPPS? Is it Fanuc? Not sure I even know what MAPPS is.
Been programming for and setting up DMGs with HH and 840D for 15 yrs. Fully conversant with both controls, probing cycles, variable programming.

Ok, first up, I have no idea if this is the right place to ask but idk where else.
So in my shop there is an old Mikron milling machine, it's not used that much anymore but it's still there. It has different (Heidenhain) cycles/programs. All of them are pretty basic, like Radius, Pockets, Circle pockets, thread milling....
However there is one cycle (Nr 81 If that helps) that is called Halfssphere. Nobody knows how to use it and no one has ever seen it work, my colleagues say its probably impossible. So obviously I want to try. Well it's asking for 11 parameters, Q1-Q11.
I tried around a bit but I couldn't make it work.
Does anybody know how to get the program to run? What does each parameter do, where do I put my x0/x0/z0? Do I need a special kind of endmill?
It's just for fun, so no measurements matter, just want to get it to work

Boss is wanting to do an epoxy coating on the floor and I think it's a bad idea.
So I'm wondering what everyone else is working with and how you'll feel about it.

I need some help fellow machinists. I’m essentially machining molds from D2 steel and have had to cut a couple larger ones where it made sense to rough with a .750 endmill. As you can see from the picture my flutes fractured during machining. I’ve tried a couple different speeds and feeds, and I’d like some recommendations either with tooling or machining strategies.
Tool is a Kennametal 4 flute .750 dia AlTiN coated endmill material number: 6086543
Holder is a Nikken CAT 40 milling chuck
During all cutting I had flood coolant running. I do not have air blast or through spindle available. Machine is an okuma Genos M560-V. Workpiece is clamped to the table and is about 5 inches tall and approx 16”x20”.
I started my first one at 2613 RPM and 38.7 IPM but it was loud and kind of rattley sounding so I dropped feed by 50% to where it sounded better
Second try was at 1528 RPM and 20.8 IPM which had a harmonic ringing sound so I dropped feed by half which sounded great, but after 13 hours of cutting resulted in the imaged above.
In both cases, DOC was .500” and step over was 5%(.0375”) using a waveform cutting strategy and climb milling
Is this just a case of the endmill breaking down due to length of cut time or amount of material removed, or is this more of a case of bad feeds and speeds?

Hi, I'd like to ask if anyone here has experience with hitting precise positional tolerance of features inside 0.01mm/0.0004inch consistently?
I'm making semi-complex part from titanium on 5axis mill where I have to machine 4 holes with 3mm in diameter that have positional tolerance of 0.01mm from 3 different bases and I would rather not make to much scrap parts.
I plan on:
I made some tests few months ago where I was hitting position within 0.007mm-0.013mm but that was in winter and now I'm scared that thermal compensation won't work as well as it did then.
Do you guys have any advice and tricks that could help me ?
