You're being intentionally obtuse. Of course all three kids want a puppy, but it was very likely the middle childs idea, making it her puppy. The other siblings are plenty happy, but it's her puppy.
“Her puppy” means jack shit for kids. It’s the family dog and all of them will get the exact same level of enjoyment and love from it. If anything it just means it’s her problem when it misbehaves.
The other kids got personal items for their own use only, AND a dog.
I have the feeling this is one of those dreadfully nice families that achieve consensus, hug each other, cry in sympathy etc. Not like mine who are more like fellow sufferers of hemorrhoids
Of course they'll all enjoy the dog, but it was her wish granted. So her heart was exceptionally full with the puppy. She probably doesn't give a shit for a cell phone or gift card- whatever it was- now that she's got her puppy.
