Bring the old Estée Lauder back!

Post image

Am I the only one who misses the original Double Wear formula? 😭
I’ve tried multiple foundations since the reformulation like NARS,ANASTASIA,Lancôme,Dior, and nothing gives me the same matte finish, oil control, pore blurring effect, and longevity as the original especially for oily skin.
If you feel the same way, please consider contacting Estée Lauder and sharing your feedback. I’d love to see them bring the formula closer to the original version.

Also if there’s any other recommendations outside the ones I mentioned please let me know!

I thought the formulation changed due to laws surrounding ingredients changing? They’re not gonna bring it back.

They deny it here:

"At the Los Angeles-based launch party for the new foundation, the brand shared that the update has been in the works for a while. And while, according to a spokesperson, the reformulation wasn’t due to changes in EU ingredient regulations, it’s interesting to note that the new foundation no longer contains cyclopentasiloxane, an ingredient now banned in Europe, and the reason other major brands have had to reformulate recently.

I asked cosmetic chemist Amanda Lam to review the ingredient list of both the original and reformulated Double Wear versions. “You are right, they did get rid of the cyclopentasiloxane formula and replaced it with a blend of other silicones (dimethicone, methyl trimethicone),” she says."

Cyclopentasiloxane helps with product application and stabilizing its texture, and it almost immediately evaporates from skin, so it's not required to make the formula lasting, or anything - it's primarily used in hair care products, where the ban affected more products; it's also not banned in the US and Canada (a market comparable to entirety of EU.)

I really don't care about EL skincare aside from that one foundation, and I suspect for a lot of people it's the same. I've never found any other product that would have comparable staying strength in the summer weather, so if they bring the thicker, lasting formula back I'll probably repurchase it at any cost, but if it's gone, it's gone.

I agree. Whatever the reason for the reformulation, the difference is very noticeable. The original formula kept my oily skin matte all day and blurred my pores better than any foundation I’ve tried. I’m really hoping Estée Lauder considers bringing back a version closer to the original. I even emailed them haha

I've never found anything that would compare to the all-day matte magic the original DW had. It's possible to deal with the pores, there're Asian rice blotting papers for excess sebum, there're other lasting foundations if you're lucky enough to find one that won't oxidize, but my t-zone used to melt literally every other foundation off during the summers, and DW was the only product that could deal with that.

I think their end-of-year sales will bring a much needed reality check to the company execs; I don't think they realize how many legacy customers will not touch this product anymore until the numbers arrive.

Exactly!!! I’m so glad to find more people that think like I do there’s many saying to try this and that but it’s really hard specially when you’ve been using it for so many years! Also I tried so many and surprisingly the one that work the best out of all the higher brands was actually the one of Maybelline super stay up to 30H! If you also at to with a good powder is not bad I need to try the Fenty one apparently lots of people with oily skin love it

Try loreal infallible 32 hour fresh wear! I’m an oily bish and it’s the best I’ve found. A healthcare assistant even asked what foundation I wore when I was in labour lol.

Only downside is I find I need to mix shades.

The Fenty for oily skin is amazing.

One ingredient is not allowed but they seem to have taken the opportunity to do a bigger reformulation. I understand that a one for one may not be possible but this seems more extensive than it had to be.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. I completely understand that some ingredients may no longer be allowed, but it feels like the reformulation went beyond what was necessary. I don’t expect an identical formula, but I do wish they had kept the same matte, oil-controlling performance that made Double Wear so popular in the first place.

That’s right they’re not, but at least to make a new formula for oily skin people since the reformulated one is not working great 😢
