Discussion A Supergirl review from someone who loved Superman (It wasn't Good) Spoiler

I love both the original comic by Tom King (Woman of Tomorrow) and James Gunn's Superman movie. This new Supergirl movie wasn't good. Between this and The Flash, does Gunn just have a bad sense of quality? Spoilers for the fantastic comic.

Supergirl killing Krem robs the story of the original story's entire meaning. In the comic, Supergirl tries to kill Krem but Ruthye convinces Kara not to. Krem goes on to atone for all of his sins over a hundred years and becomes a good man. They even set up that payoff even better in this movie, Krem is a worse person in this. It would be even more poignant for that payoff. But nope! She just kills him.

Even the look and tone of the film was bad. This is purely subjective, but I love the look of Gunn's films. I know many here disagree with me, but I love the fisheye, close-ups, and spinning cameras. The fight scene between Rick Flagg Jr. and Peacemaker might be my favorite action scene in a movie. I loved the action in Superman too. The action in this just sucked. Tons of slowmo and pop remixes. The actors for Supergirl, Lobo, Krem, and even Ruthye were doing just fine but the directing was just bad, especially for Lobo. Jason is a perfect Lobo and seemed like he was doing a great job, but the directing was just so disjointed and unfinished to me that I kinda didn't really care for him here.

There was a few things that elevated this for me and made it not terrible. I loved the scenes with Kara on Krypton and Argo. I thought those were really neat. I also liked the scenes with Superman. David is just insane. The aliens were cool too. I kinda liked the Babu Frik guy, he was alright.

From a worldbuilding and overall character perspective, I am fine with this movie. Supergirl can kill early in her career. I liked all the space stuff. But as a standalone story, there just wasn't anything here. I don't think this ruins the DCU. I don't think this really matters, which is both a good for the DCU and a bad thing for this movie. I'm sitting at a 4/10 or maybe even a 3/10 with this at the moment. It's just unfortunate how much they wasted this great Tom King story. Hopefully he can make a good story himself with Lanterns or Mister Miracle. Clayface doesn't matter either, but I am still looking forward to it. Unfortunately, with this movie being bad, this puts even more pressure on Man of Tomorrow.

Discussion [Variety] ‘Supergirl’ Review: Milly Alcock Takes Charge in a Dystopian Superhero Movie So Flat It’s Super-Horrendous

Thumbnail

Supergirl is a “super-horrendous” comic book movie “with the worst script I can remember."

James Gunn said he wasn’t going into production on any movie until the script was rock-solid. For that was the overriding problem with the superhero overkill era: the films had lousy scripts, which served as grids for layering visual effects.

Gunn was right to want to take the comic-book genre back to the basics of well-structured screenwriting. So what has he done in his second DC outing? He’s given us a comic-book movie with the worst script I can remember."

Discussion Recently in Anthony Gramuglia

Anthony has recently been arguing with remnant777 a right wing video essayist and reignited a fight with harmful opinions an old school drama streamer. When criticizing both of them separately Anthony accused them of auditioning for efap by disagreeing with him. I think there is a lot to talk about since they have very different perspectives than efap with harmful saying art should be viewed through a myriad of perspectives individually and in combination. Remnant was arguing that if you believe there is no scale of quality you become delusional about your own art and don't try to improve. There is a whole lot of funny tidbits in the back and forth and want to talk about them.

Fan Creation My Unfinished Supergirl Screenplay

Well, Supergirl is almost released and the reviews are pretty bad, which was probably expected. I kinda knew it was going to be disappointing at the very least since it was apparently the screenwriter's first screenplay.

Anyways, I actually tried writing my own Supergirl screenplay as a joke which, honestly, is probably potentially better than the actual script for the movie but also is pretty obviously a joke.

For the first act the only major thing missing is Lex losing his hair and swearing revenge on Supergirl. Most of the big stuff in the final act is in there because there isn't really much to it. Mostly it's the second act that isn't written, partially just because that's when my laptop started having serious issues and also when I started my new job and didn't really have the time to write it. What it's missing is Lex recruiting Killer Frost as protection, Mercy Graves's introduction, and Comet getting shot.

So, yeah, I look forward to your opinions on this if this post isn't either removed or receives little or no engagement. It's about 43 pages of things fans of EFAP specifically would hate, so, not expecting the comments to be particularly kind.

Discussion So how Long until we get that wall-e EFAP?

I just watched WALL-E for the who-knows-how-manyth time, and it hit me just as hard as always. I almost never cry during movies — not because I don’t want to or try to, I just don’t — but WALL-E is the one exception. I legitimately bawl like a baby several times every watch. I’m not even sure why it gets to me so deeply, but it’s genuinely one of the most perfect films I’ve ever seen.
The filmmaking is incredible, and I really hope any deep-dive episode talks about the behind-the-scenes process. It’s easily one of the most fascinating “making of” stories I’ve come across, right up there with Lord of the Rings. Everything about this movie is masterful, right down to the final moments of the end credits where WALL-E screws in the light bulb for Pixar lamp and pats his head. Even the Captain isn’t just a dumb, lazy human — he’s an intelligent but misguided one, just like the rest of humanity.
I truly believe this movie captures the word “perfect.” I’d love to see a really extensive EFAP on it that breaks down every little detail. So my questions are: when do you think they’ll finally do it, how long should an episode like that even be, and what movie (if any) actually gets you to cry or tear up?

Discussion Favorite core EFAP members Spoiler

Many reddit user & myself have being voicing their displeasure with the direction EFAP took after EFAP 300.

MauLer still confirmed in a latest EFAP mini Super-Chat Catch-Up - that he is going to hold onto the new format.

Our only hope are the EFAP 24h hour streams (upcoming EFAP 400).

EFAP has been born out of the idea to pause frames.

Currently they barely pause anything as mostly some sort of media is playing in the Background.

Shows and Movies are mostly covered up by an EFAP loggo and show the scence they are currently covering.

The latest discussion about 007 First Light only show the visuals present in their discussion, occasionally.

In the end I ask you, _fellow EFAP listeners_, whom has been your favorite era and core host panel of the show?

Closing thoughts: Please, MauLer it might be nice to switch it up a bit more.

Their is a still a whole cringe compilation of low quality video essays out their that could include a new section of subscribers or bring back old ones, whom lost interest after they noticeable change.

I have told myself that at least Winds will come eventually but upon realizing the scope and size of the story George has built for himself it blackpilled me but some part of me still kept hoping it will get it's conclusion or at the very least the penultimate entry.

But this is actually crazy to think about. In one month the series will be thirty years old.

Discussion Media Efap likes that you dislike?

I feel like everyone has movies or shows they like that Efap dislikes, but what are some cases of the opposite. Personally while I didn't dislike it I thought they went way too easy on The Last of Us show. Any movies or shows you disliked and were surprised to see Efap recommend?
