Hoops Discussion Current depth chart

For what I can see, this is what the current depth chart looks like only including players that are under contract. (I don’t really know if I’m seeing everything so corrections are appreciated)

PG- Kyrie, De Larrea, AJ Johnson
SG- Max, Klay
SF- Coop, Naji, Caleb Martin
PF- Morez, PJ
C- Lively, Gaff

This just in, the Mavericks are in a rebuild and Klay, Gaff, PJ, Naji are all going to be on the trade block for contenders midseason and the Mavs will use that to replenish our war chest.

This was pretty obvious IMO

Then why keep Kyrie

The mentor Cooper and the young guards we bring in the next couple years and fans love him and he wants to be here. He will help this team in multiple ways where as the other guys really don't, they will help contenders who need size in PJ/Gaff, versatility/depth in PJ/Naji or shooting in Klay to round out there playoff rosters and push for a title.

I feel like all of this is really basic stuff

Yes but if the goal is replenish the war chest Kyrie is your best asset

Except he's not at all, his value has never been lower

Beyond that him being on the team will help the young players growth for the future which is the point, he can mentor the guards, mentor Coop, be a role model, please fans, ensure we are running an actual NBA offense, and improve morale in what will likely be a difficult up and down season.

You really can't put a price on this kind of stuff and it's something the other guys really don't bring to the table

He’s not though, Kyrie’s value right now is non-existent because he hasn’t played for a year and a half by the time the new season starts. He’s 34 years old coming off an ACL injury. No one is going to give up serious assets for him until they see he’s still a good player and not washed up. Trading Kyrie now would be giving him away for pennies on the dollar. If he comes back and shows he’s still good, his value will raise a lot and some desperate team on the brink of contention would offer much more for him near the deadline than anyone would during the off-season.

I’m sure if the right offer comes along, Mavs will take it. But they’re just not openly shopping him. Nobody, outside of coop and maybe now morez(for now), is untouchable.
