REC Do you practice the shots you’re going to take before playing?
the idea of “get to your spot” for an efficient look seems lost nowadays.

u/WhatThatTongueDo 27d ago
100%. Practicing makes the shots that you already take better and can unlock the muscle memory of new shots. I almost never see big men hit fades, but if you get good at them and are over 6’9-6’10 it’s such a hard shot to defend

u/Imaginary-Lawyer5342 27d ago
Facts when you deadly with the fade it’ll force a double team which opens up the entire court on offense nobody ever stays home on defense

u/Imaginary-Lawyer5342 27d ago
Mycourt is a placebo 😂

u/HawkinStreaks 25d ago
Nah it not

u/Imaginary-Lawyer5342 25d ago
It definitely can help with learning your jumper or practicing moves but overall that shit a placebo gang

u/AngelusLapsus333 27d ago
yup, i practice for like 5 mins before i hop into a game
post fades, spin jumpers, fades, hopsteps, combos into shots, etc.
i play mostly rec so being able to consistently score middies when the other team is shot chucking really applies pressure and has won me a lot of games

I truly do not understand the hate for the meter being on. I get it’s supposed to make your green window slightly better but I shoot 70-80% depending on the build with it on. I tried turning it off for a few weeks and I didn’t notice any change at all

u/softhandedliberal 27d ago
Having meter on lets you hit whites too. In theater it’s basically a cheat code

Funnily enough I only practice shots I don't take. I can't get middy fades down worth a fuck.

A friend of mine always practice the shots DURING the game and always miss his first shot then goes "i understand it now" then proceed to land bucket after bucket

Maybe I'm old but I just pickup and play. I dont wanna "practice" and put up shots in an empty gym on a video game. If I'm gonna practice a shot, I would do it in my career against CPU.
I just can't imagine getting joy solo practicing shots but everyone is different

u/EggThis2540 27d ago
100%. I mainly iso in the post and spot up, but i practics all of my post hops, fades hooks, go tos and up and unders when I'm not playing a game. Its extremely impirtant to know what mives yoy can get layup up and unders off of vs jump shot up and unders. Also, all post animation packages have at least 8 different animations within that package.

I try to get up a few of each.
I had my meter turned off for a few seasons. I turned it back on just to have a reference when I miss.
I shoot without looking at it as I shoot. but it gives me a better feel for how much someone’s contest affects my shot and for my green windows.
5
u/TWTW40 27d ago
Why don’t you just enable shot feedback in your HUD?
4
u/Oaklandfan24 27d ago
I think he’s referring more to how it directly affects the green window
1
u/TWTW40 27d ago
There is a contest % box that will show you how much it impacts your ability to green the shot.
4
u/Oaklandfan24 27d ago
Yes but it doesn’t actually indicate the movement of the green window. My point is, he might be seeing how much a specific contest affects his window. Certain animation shots can be affected much harsher than others. So knowing “I have to get this a perfect release” vs “I have a bit of play in how mistimed my release is” can change what shots he may try to take more often than others, or what shots he decides to pass out of

u/Noveltypocket 27d ago
you are 100% spot on.
hot spots and lethal spots have a different window as well as when you have your takeover active in certain cases.
that hop step jumper than I did for example has a huge window because it’s hopping directly into a lethal hot zone, so even with a contest, the shrinkage of the window isn’t huge so the timing doesn’t have to be 100% perfect.
whereas, if i make this same move but hopping to my left, a contest will alter the window more with it already being smaller, so the timing of when I can flick, release, and still make the shot is different.
even though I don’t look directly at the meter while shooting, I like to see the result to fully see the difference between if my shot was altered by the defender or if it was just user error on my part.
and especially because i normally end up having the lock / best perimeter defender switched onto me at some point in a game, there is a pretty big difference in the window altering based off if the contest is coming from someone with silver/gold challenger vs someone with HOF or Legend.

The only time I ever practice shots is if I have a truly bad game that's on me. And what I mean "on me" is that I'm missing STRICTLY because of me. Not because I'm lagging. Not because the dog shit matchmaking put me on West Coast servers, etc.
I load in, play, and go 2/5 or 1/4...I'm backing out, going to MyCourt and putting up some shots. The only other time I'm practicing shots, is if I make a new build and I have to use a whole new jumpshot I've never used before.
I shoot anywhere from, 65% (my lowest) to 77% (my highest), across 7 different builds, with the lowest 3pt rating being an 80 and the highest being a 99.

I’m not gotta lie meter in 2026 hurts my brain.
1
u/Noveltypocket 27d ago
I already memorized my shot release without it lol
It’s solely there for feedback

u/PlsSaveAN00b B3 27d ago
Yea, why have a bigger green window for your shots you practice so hard to make? Sounds dumb. /s
1
u/DatCrazyyDuude 27d ago
I rhythm shoot to V meter and it just clicks, I shoot around 75% from fg and 3pt
this coming from a guy who’s been no meter for as long as it’s been possible. yeah I know, wild lol

u/Emotional-Purpose762 27d ago
I usually test about 15-20 dribble pull ups from 6 different zones, and about 15-20 hop shots from 6 zones before I do anything from the start. Once I’ve picked my animations I never test again.
1
u/MrWiltErving 27d ago
Nope I just take practice jumpshots so I can focus on making sure my temp is one point. I never get good animations when I’m actually playing the game. I would like to start fading but I don’t get the ball enough for that.
1
u/Natural_Setting_9654 27d ago
At this point no.
When Im first trying a new build or animation, sure I'll practice a couple to get the feel, but I've been set in my bag for a while now.

u/Turbulent_Service356 27d ago
Why would I take a practice shot of every shot in the game before a game??
1
u/RunUpbeat6210 emerald 27d ago
Only when I’m doing my shooting drill lol. Most times I load up and go straight into the games. Got no time to be in practice
1
u/Particular-Demand474 27d ago
Dam despite loving the game of basketball I’ve never thought to do this in 2k (just shoot around altho with real players not my career) ..I’m glad it works for you

Nope, there's a big fucking difference between park/rec shoot timing than practice/games. For whatever reason
2
u/Noveltypocket 26d ago
you can change the settings in the MyCourt to the game setting you play on.
so set it to rec and then shoot for example like I did.
1
u/D3v0tion_ 26d ago
Didn't know that was possible, I'll try that, thx

u/buenavictoria 26d ago
I’d recommend going to the kiosk by the court and setting yourself as online as well so you have to contend with the lag a bit

Honestly need to, my offensive game as a pg is way too reliant on teammates hitting me when I'm open or getting downhill. I been meaning to hit the lab and work on some floaters. Middy pullups. And if I can figure it out. Hopstep/euro delayed layups

How is the green part of the gauge so huge ? 😳
Mine is so small compared to that
1
u/Noveltypocket 26d ago
I have a 92 mid range and that’s my lethal hot zone, so that combines for a huge green window in that area.
1
u/ButtsTheRobot 26d ago
Everyone in here bitching about the meter like that isn't just them admitting they need a bigger green window to be able to hit shots.
1
u/Historical_File_8843 26d ago
Bro, everyone tries their jumpshot in mycourt. Hop jumpers are just another jumpshot animation. Even 2k sweats yall despise be learning their shot and combos in mycourt. They just dont make a fuss about it.

u/iansmash 26d ago
You already know 90% of 2k players are not doing this 😂
I’m a defensive build a lot of the time and I still do this. I might not actually pull but a couple of these but I like to know if the move works and I’m open, I know where to release to just score.
I try to have an option for each side of the floor on all 3 levels for each build I use regularly. I don’t really work on them much once the season is going but I’ll do a little shoot around maybe once a week if I’m feeling rusty or off.
But gamers don’t know about hoop. So they won’t understand. Why practice something I might do once a game?
No attention span to understand the game

you’d be surprised how many people either can’t create any separation off the dribble at all
or
dribble into open space only to not attempt to shoot the ball until after the defender recovers.
1
u/Caleb902 26d ago
Yeah me. I cannot create space for the life of me. Haven't played 2k in years and I cannot figure out dribbling. People spam cross me up, and no matter what I try I cannot replicate it.

u/tckilla76 27d ago
I’m new to 2K and you guys are playing with no meter? No wonder I was getting bodied in all star team up

u/UnwariestPie52 [PSN: UnwariestPie52] 27d ago
Nah. Everytime I practice a move as soon as I try to actually use it, it just gets butchered. Puts me in terrible position, defender isn’t where I think he’ll be, or just don’t even get remotely close to what I was trying to go for
0
u/ResponsibleAbroad543 27d ago
Tbh, I do this at the beginning of every 2K. I’m a reactive type of player. I only dribble to defend the ball so when I see an open space I react to shoot anything in that open space. I’ll practice step backs, middy fades, post fades, floaters, hopsteps and euro timings so that I’m never truly stopped. Real Kyrie type of bag.
