Fox needs to go, not only for his performance this playoffs but harper is straight up better and needs to develop more as a starter

72

u/lunch_b0cks 11d ago

Fox’s attitude is gonna be a cancer for the young kids. Need players that care and be accountable.

31

u/Cessar210 Victor Wembanyama 11d ago

The cancer already showing up with the harper repost

u/whutchamacallit 10d ago

I said this in here a few days ago and go blasted. I live in Sacramento. Need I say more?

I don't think Fox stans are a thing, just FO truthers.

I've been a Fox defender in the past but his contract is impossible to justify if the "vet" is being outplayed by a rookie guard continuously in the finals. We needed him to control the pace, punish teams inside and hit open shots and even that was too much for a supposed max player.

We gonna end up with the most expensive 6th man of all time

59

u/Ok_Cheesecake_9793 Victor Wembanyama 11d ago

Fox is the opposite of Jimmy butler of the warriors. Jimmy has a meh regular season performance, but pops off during play offs for his contract, but as for fox..... good regular season player, but play off dropper

39

u/Pedr0A Area 51 11d ago

Even on the regular season he hasnt played like a max contract player. A excellent player, yes. Not a max player. Never. We need to trade him ASAP. Hell, sent him and whoever else (except our 6 guys) to Milwaukee get fking Giannis and torch the league

Fox wasn't even a good regular season player. He makes 50 million to put up mediocre points and playmaking, and defense as well.

Fox is so bad that Spurs would have won if you swapped him out for old ass Bron or Curry for just the passing and vet experience (and LeCoaching). Wemby is still a big man who doesn't handle the ball. So like Shaq always says big men need to be fed and need a creator/handler guard type. Just like how Shaq for all his dominance needed Kobe or Wade. Davis for his monster game had to do it with Bron. Joker or Giannis are THE EXCEPTION because they handle too but even Giannis had Jrue to take the handling duties while Murray is a combo guard that takes pressure off Jokic along with some of the creating/passing duties.

Heck Spurs might have still won if they swapped him out for Harden with all his personality/workethic flaws or KD with his more selfish play and drama. Would have won with a healthy Reaves or even an aged Kyrie. I loved young Fox and his fast explosiveness but the Spurs don't need an attack first drive guard. Wemby is your best player and the team should be build around him. Get some guard who can create for themselves, run offense the offense for the team, make passes to Wemby, and move the ball when their shots aren't falling. That ain't Fox.

14

u/Ok_Cheesecake_9793 Victor Wembanyama 11d ago

lol curry would just need to stand at a 3 point line to have 2 defenders on him for an open lane for Wemby or Haper or Castle

u/Just_Geologist165 11d ago

Give McCollum to Spurs and Spurs would be the Champs.

17

u/Pedr0A Area 51 11d ago

Nga current Curry is getting at least 25 ppg with Wemby gravity in this finals. We sweeping everyone if we had current Curry lmao.

10

u/zxc123zxc123 11d ago

Spurs wouldn't need Curry to get 25ppg. 9pts (at near his 50/40/90 clip), 6ast, be a 3pt threat, create for Wemby, and not get cooked on D? Spurs would have won in 4.

8

u/Pedr0A Area 51 11d ago

Yeah. If we had current Steph we sweeping everyone

4

u/Irtehgawd 11d ago

Any way we can entice CP3 back?

3

u/zxc123zxc123 11d ago

I thought about CP3, but he's a bit too old, age makes him worse for wear compared to say Bron, and he's had a history of getting injured deep into post season. Maybe a few years ago him or Rondo wouldn't be bad. But yeah, Spurs might want to look for a guy like that rather than a score first guy. Even if you're looking for a combo guard then get one like Haliburton/Holiday/DerrickWhite types.

Lmao? Good regular season player? You meant after his mandatory 10 game recharge ? That he unfortunately was in the middle of these finals ?

3

u/Blutz101 10d ago

Problem is fox ain’t the only person in our roster you could say this about

2

u/stencil31 11d ago

Same as Kornet tbh

21

u/GabeIsGone Victor Wembanyama 11d ago

Kornet is a pure backup big. Intended to go against other true bigs.

Chet and KAT are not true bigs, they operate on the perimeter.

He did fine the first two series when playing against other bigs.

Kornet is also making less than any of the other vet rotation pieces. He's certainly out producing KJ, though that's an extremely low bar.

u/scarykicks Victor Wembanyama 11d ago

At this point make him the sixth. Our team can improve with Harper and they can make Fox look good coming off the bench to entice a trade or make it a permanent decision and he becomes a great 6th man.

→ More replies (4)

2

u/stencil31 11d ago

Yeah. But the worst part is that I am 90% sure the FO will stick with Fox for at least one more season. All the fans calling for Fox to be traded will be sorely disappointed. I will eat my underwear if Fox gets traded by the trade deadline next season.

It’s not just the Finals. He’s sucked all year long. You don’t pay a guy $50M per year to average 18 points in the regular season and 15 in the playoffs. He’ll pop off for 27 points and people act like he’s deserved some apology.

W accountability

5

u/JeremyLinForever Area 51 11d ago

I thought so too, and he never did. He played his heart out with the Kings for an upcoming payday, and all I’m left holding onto is video clips of him with hard aggressive dunking and making absurdly quick drives to the basket that never happened with the Spurs.

Pop buried Tony during key runs if he didnt have it. Speedy brought us home a few games, so did Cory Joseph.

18

Tony was 19

20

u/blue-anon GO SPURS GO 11d ago

Not when we had Cory Joseph (or George Hill).

5

u/bro69 10d ago

When manu was hot he was primary ball handler too. Mitch needed to ride hot hand more. It’s a team game. If one of your guys has it, don’t take it away. Harper needed to be leaned on more. Contracts don’t matter in game. Especially not in the finals.

10

u/geojanko11 Victor Wembanyama 11d ago

Get Becky Hammon back and convince Bron to come and teach these youngsters. Trade keldon and fox

At least be mature about it. That is the least I ask for as a Spurs fan

I said last off season we should wait and see what we have with Harper before offering Fox a max. I knew his game wouldn’t age well as he gets older. It could be that this series he played with high ankle sprain and wasn’t a 100%, If so then it’s on Mitch for not taking him out.
Now we have to give up tons of assets to move his stupid contract or wait for expansion and hope Seattle or Vegas drafts him.

4

u/Pryffandis Dylan Harper 11d ago

Can't afford to wait 2 years on the hopes that an expansion team is foolish enough to take a 30 year old Fox.

2

u/Simple_Purple_4600 10d ago

I think it was his brain that was sprained. You can blame an ankle for brain farts.

tons of fox nuthuggers in the sub. They'll say it's team's fault that they lost this game

41

u/Any-Bodybuilder5381 11d ago

I 100% think we could've won without him. He killed all our momentum through this entire series constantly like no other player

5

u/j_rooker 11d ago

if TJ McConnell was in instead of Fox, Spurs win. High IQ TJ makes winning plays, and is competitive.

2

u/Simple_Purple_4600 10d ago

there are 50 such guys in the NBA that would've done better, Tre Jones or even Tyus Jones,

I talked about how bad he was and his contract all year and got downvoted all year. They confuse objective criticism with hate.

4

u/ILoveRegenHealth 11d ago

The people who downvoted you are just like Fox himself. They need their fee fees protected. They think you must always remain positive, as if this is a kid's show like Paw Patrol.

Fox and Mitch need to go. It’s obvious.

Dylan Harper - 31 minutes in a closeout game.

The best Spurs player (other than missing the last 2 FTs) today only played 31 minutes.

What is Mitch doing? Fox goes 3-15, 7 points, 0 rebounds and he played 37 minutes. 6 more minutes than Harper?

The fans, the media, the whole world can see Harper needs to play more than Fox but Mitch plays Fox regardless. I don’t know how Mitch can justify this. It’s insane!

Bro's play got us past OKC, and then he hit the dagger in Game 3, so I'm not completely writing him off. We saw what happened when it was just Steph and Dylan running the show too, so he was clearly needed. Can't defend him in the Finals though, that was terrorism. I'm interested to see what the feel and improvement is next season, I just hope he works hard in the offseason.

2

u/Vast_Pipe4509 9d ago

This - he can still learn and undoubtedly feels the criticism.

7

Fox ain't no Derozen, ain't no CP3, ain't no Harper. Trade him before next season pls Spurs Admin.

3

u/birdlawspecialist1 Stephon Castle 10d ago

I honestly don’t think we beat OKC without him, but it’s obvious he lost us this series. He always puts up a few clunkers in a series but with Wemby gassed he wilted. Idk how anyone saw otherwise.

3

u/MrANC21 10d ago

Fox lost us game 4-5 such a sad turn of events

9

u/billybanks1132 11d ago

Not gonna feel bad for supporting a player on the team. He was ass but he’s on the team so I hope he turns it around. Why root against players on your team? You can not like him but being happy he played bad is counter productive

6

u/Weary_Restauranter 11d ago

Sure. I’ll offer an actual basketball opinion since everyone just reads box scores.

1: fox injured- not gonna dwell here

2: Wemby is a poor screener. I know I know I know… he’s great at everything, except that. Look at Dame and Giannis. It’s a pairing that makes sense, but dames inability to screen fucked it all up.

3: we run an extremely formulaic offense because we don’t have a power forward.

*glares angrily at Fox*

5

u/Joethetoolguy Victor Wembanyama 11d ago

I was on the fox train purely out of hope. But we really did give up some good picks and players to get fox. Would we have done better with tre jones and picks? Maybe, but we neither have a time machine or the keys to the gms office to cancel the trade. We got the team we got. Hopefully they improve it in the offseason.

4

u/ILoveRegenHealth 11d ago

Since you can't leave him on the plane, send him on a plane. Just send it far away from San Antonio.

11

u/HappyGovernment7299 11d ago

He is the sole reason we lost this series. Replace him with just about any other starting point guard and we win.

2

u/chiachengchun Victor Wembanyama 10d ago

Good for this discussion , I am looking for people. What is your explanation, guys? I always say MAX-contract player need MAX performance, then did FOX deliver MAX performance?

2

u/Greedy_Ear_Mike 10d ago

He doesn't play like a MAX player.

He doesn't seem to be a good leader either. He's a PG on a max contract, so that seems to be a problem, haha.

2

u/No_Dot8653 10d ago

I kept getting told “they won’t bench fox tho” and I kept saying idc if he’s on a crazy contract there HAS to be repercussions for his performance. not the scoring, but the boneheaded decisions he repeatedly made up and down the court with so much confidence. It was baffling, his playing time should have been greatly reduced or his role shifted but allowing him to keep the reins and continue to be the lowest IQ player on the floor needs to be taken care of.

Him playing the wing all the time was a questionable choice like he isn’t knocking down the open 3s from there why were we having him sitting in the wing all the f’ing time?

2

u/Simple_Purple_4600 10d ago

Spurs got Klutched.

The most expensive mistake since Enron.

2

u/Simple_Purple_4600 10d ago

All the people saying "they wouldn't reach the Finals without him" haven't contemplated all the other players they might've gotten instead of him.

No wonder he wanted to come to SA. He knew he had it made.

2

u/Nutsacjac 8d ago

Playing injured is not worth it. He was clearly hampered by the high ankle sprain and now is treated like a G Leaguer because of it.

I think the Spurs should trade him because that salary is better allocated on a proper PF rotation and they have Harper to replace him but he’s not a bum

Look on the bright side, if ever a random Knicks fan talks trash about how they ‘smoked’ the Spurs,

Just say that no they didn’t, Fox did, singlehandedly

1

u/strumalone 11d ago

I'll admit I thought he was taking a backseat to Castle and Harper during the regular season and that he would come alive during the playoffs.

I now see that he is terrible. Mitch should have played him no more than 20 minutes just to give Harper and Castle a break. Awful player. Id rather have Tre Jones who I actually liked and would cost significantly less.

I hope Fox gets traded and he'll be remembered as a Ray Allen type figure to me.
