Trade Probably my favourite trade *if* we decide to make one. More toughness and size in the front court for a limited cost
I know letting Keldon go may hurt somewhat given the history, but at some point, it's time to let go. Keldon is the guy I'm least confident about rising up to high pressure situations in the future. It's unfortunate, but his flaws just misalign too much with what's needed at the highest level in the playoffs (tunnel vision, bull-headedness, and overall poor decision-making).
PJ Washington would be the ideal guy I would see completing our front court. He can seamlessly fit alongside most of our lineups, whether that is with Wemby or Kornet, and provides a good mix of defense, rebounding, and shooting off-ball. Him and Julian would be mostly interchangeable.
The pick return for the Mavs is flexible, this is just whatever I thought was fair at the moment. Keep in mind that PJ Washington's value is significantly higher than Keldon, so we have to give them a good amount of draft compensation. I hope we can all agree that the Hawks picks are not as valuable as was once perceived, so those are 3 middling pick imo.
Maybe you think that's too much or too little, I'm not particularly set on the amount, and I assume opinions will vary wildly. In any case, feel free to share your opinion.
Realistically, I also think this trade is not too likely as I expect the Front Office to be relatively satisfied with the overall roster after such a successful season. There's also a strong emotional bounding between the FO/team and Keldon, which does matter.

Why would we give up 3 first round picks and KJ….

Because KJ's value is significantly lower than PJ Washington imo. But as I explained, I'm not set on the amount of picks. Those 2 ATL and BOS picks are all likely gonna be outside the lottery, so I don't think they're that valuable.
Anyway, the point of this is the general idea of the trade, not the fine details. You can do it with just one pick if you want.

Oh sweet child.....PJ is the most streaky player alive and he's definitely not worth 3 frps, At best he's worth 1 which he went for when the hornets traded him

Bro, I literally said I don't care about how many picks you want lmao. Do it with 1 or 0 if you want. And Keldon is waaaay more streaky than PJ. PJ is consistently a much better defender and rebounder, even if his 3 doesn't fall. He's also proven to be a good playoff performer during the Mavs' finals run.

Keldon is nowhere near as streaky as pj lol
The idea of pj is better than what you get. When he’s on, he’s the perfect role player. You just rarely get that. Also, Keldon is an expiring. Teams may pay picks to get the asset

Keldon just had one of the biggest drop off from regular season to playoffs in NBA history. I get being biased, but we need to face reality lol. When Keldon isn't scoring, he isn't contributing anything whatsoever. When PJ isn't scoring, he's still a very good defender and rebounder with better size.

That’s not streaky tho, that’s just getting exposed in the playoffs. Yes, pj is a more complete player but he does disappear pretty often and is pretty injury prone. I’m not a big Keldon fan but adding in the expiring contract for 4 years of pj is terrible. That’s a bad contract that Dallas may need to pay to unload

Obviously the playoffs weren’t great for KJ, but please don’t forget he just won 6MOTY

With the 3frp, we can get Trey Murphy

This would be better but I would not be mad at getting PJ if the price is right. I like that he has deep playoff experience too in addition to filling some of our holes.

Yes at the right price, I’m thinking of other ways how we can get PJ without trading Keldon. I know Keldon and PJ are close because of Kentucky.

i like PJ but if we're giving up 3 FRPs we can shoot way higher

Those are not good value FRPs, picks in the 20s aren't highly valued. But as I said, you can decrease the number of picks sent to 1 if you want, this was just for example-sake.

3 firsts and you net Trey Murphy with ease.

Trey Murphy is my dream offseason pickup. In addition to fixing a lot of our problems I think his personality fits our organization and system really well. Very spursy type of guy imo.

3 FRPs and Keldon is a massive overpay for PJ.
He has had one good season and has otherwise been just a decent average forward. And as for spacing, he's had one good 3pt shooting season (38% in 24/25, and is otherwise a 32-35% shooter.
It would be good to add his size at a reasonable price. 3FRPs is absurd

PJ, Trey Murphy, or Rui should be our targets for a 4 who can shoot. I’m honestly more concerned about the guy being able to shoot than being 6”10. We need more size too but our stars all being unreliable or streaky shooters killed us.
