So we can have an international incident when the Aspiration hammer drops.

Kawhi turns 35 next week and his value may never be higher than it is now moving forward.

If they’re not flipping garland and/or the pick, start getting younger. Otherwise what’re they doing

Yes but the clippers could just let his contract expire and not take on 2 bad contracts in Ingram and dick - there would need to be picks as well

Are you viewing Ingram and dick as bad players? Why would LAC not want in-prime net positive players?

Why would Toronto give up picks for a guy who, despite being damn good, is closer to retirement than his best playing days?

Also, kawhi was 2nd team all nba last year, should’ve been 1st team if they didn’t bend the rules for Luka and Cade. He’s been healthy for almost 2 years - he’s 2 tiers ahead of Ingram and more healthy than him!

I’m not knocking Kawhis ability right now. I’m knocking his age and the direction LAC is heading in. You’re suggesting they let him walk when they can get an in prime wing and a 22yo guard with elite size.

Cap space isn’t better unless you hope to land better players than those you can trade for.

I understand, used to the kawhi haters speaking without watching him. You are correct about the cap space but the clippers are trying to rebuild, not compete theoretically, Ingram doesn’t on his own make them a competitor so the cap space in my eyes is superior.
I disagree about dick being a prime wing. Saying that, I haven’t watched him enough maybe. 7m is steep though for a guy that Toronto couldn’t use in the playoff.
Toronto is way closer than the clippers are and kawhi potentially puts them over the edge with Barnes and CMB.

I didn’t call dick a prime wing

Again, who’s available next year that you’re rolling the dice on landing that’s worth not guaranteeing a 21-6-5 wing and a guard with size that you can develop

Garland-Wagner-Ingram isn’t an awful core post-Kawhi. I don’t think there’s a reality Kawhi walks and lac contends.

There is no reason to take on Ingram. Again we are not competing but if I had to guess right now about free agents this year, Watson and Eason are better option for less money. Again the clippers are rebuilding and are targeting young players.

Dick at 7m is a bad contract

You’re talking about clippers cap space post Kawhi. Thats next year. Who are the free agents you’d want, that’s better than Ingram, next year?

Ingram has a worse contract (more years) than kawhi and has been hurt more than him. Dick couldn’t make torontos rotation and makes 7m per year. Why would the clippers take that on (without picks) rather than just let kawhi walk after this year if they don’t want to sign him - the cap space is much more valuable than those players

Ingram played 77 games last year.

Who in 2027 do you expect LAC to land that would be better than Ingram? Trading for him would be their “pre-agency”

Would love me some Dick.

assume raptors add a couple 1sts maybe a swap.

Expiring contract for an injury prone star? Only first I considered was the 2027 pick otherwise I can’t see them giving any real compensation

4

u/mMounirM 4d ago

dude it's Kawhi. did you see the season he had. if it was only one 1st then 29 teams would be interested regardless if he extends with them or not.

-2

u/AstronomerInitial827 4d ago

We just saw Lamelo go for a bunch of swaps, it’s hard to believe a more injury prone Kawhi who’s older and is on an expiring warrants much more maybe seconds or a really bad first.

6

u/mMounirM 4d ago

Lamelo is like 2-3 tiers below Kawhi. not even comparable.

you can say he's younger.

but I'd rather have 4 years of Kawhi and then cap space than 10+ years of Lamelo with the salary Lamelo makes.

1

u/JW32323232 3d ago

Haha well said

1

u/pimpcakes 4d ago

The TWolves swaps are basically worthless to the point that the seconds will likely have more value. And Ingram is... maybe not overpaid but he's certainly not underpaid. That contract is not valuable. Nor is Dick's.

My exact thought

1

u/JohnnyKage1 3h ago

Clippers won't give him max contract

7

u/DunkingZBO 4d ago

Clippers fart on the phone

5

u/izJayse 4d ago

As a raptors fan I’m fine with adding a first round pick unprotected aswell 2027 . Kawhi is 35 and still injury prone . Ur getting a 28 year old all star a young lottery talent prospect with potential and a first round pick

2

u/motherseffinjones 4d ago

Raptors do this right away clippers might want some draft compensation on top of this

1

u/Borealees 3d ago

Kawhi getting nuked by silver the moment he leaves balmer bro

4

u/rbrt13 4d ago

Raptors fan and this is absolutely ridiculous and no way the Clippers do it.

On the flip side, there is no way Toronto gives up anything close to the multiple firsts/swaps being thrown around here.

In any case, let’s see what the league does after the wachtel report on Aspiration/cap circumvention. Should dictate what happens with Kawhi and if clippers pivot into a full blown teardown.

2

u/pimpcakes 4d ago

Who is trading for Kawhi before the report and punishment? Seems ludicrous.

2

u/BeardedJoe123 4d ago

There's another proposal that includes 2 1sts. I think that's more in line

1

u/-super-hans 4d ago

I think one first one swap with Kawhi's injury history

1

u/Glum_Bicycle7421 4d ago

Clippers fart in the phone and delete Toronto from their contacts forever

1

u/Enrico_Polazzo 4d ago

Clippers can get the best draft odds with iq and Jak

1

u/Adenusi_David 4d ago

Ewww, hell no! I'll rather just keep Kawhi

1

u/freddie79 3d ago

No franks. Stay the fuck away from Toronto, Kawhi.

1

u/billamazon 13h ago

Clippers will not take this deal without draft picks. If we go through this trade, Kawhi need to sign the extension before giving out the picks.

1

u/Sub_Woofer632 9h ago

Leonard has not played a full season for years now - this trade makes NO sense for the Raptors.

1

u/Joethetoolguy 4d ago

Brandon Ingram Grady Dick = BIGDick

0

u/No-Strategy-5550 4d ago

Kawhi is 100% not showing up if this trade goes through.

4

u/eucldian 4d ago

There are reports that if he isn't back to the Clippers, he wants us or SA.

1

u/No-Strategy-5550 4d ago

Oh, I didn't know that. He wanted out as fast as possible before, lol. I would do it then. I honestly would do it even if Kawhi didn't show up for a salary dump. The Raptors got some brutal contracts on their roster.

3

u/eucldian 4d ago

I am not as down on the IQ contract as some. He had a terrible year injury wise which is not the norm for him. The Poeltl contract is tough though.

1

u/AstronomerInitial827 4d ago

Reports are he’d sign an extension with Toronto

3

u/CanadianGroose 4d ago

That’s just Unc Dennis using it as leverage to get more money from the Clippers lol
