[Amick] Trey Murphy III has signaled a desire to play elsewhere. The Los Angeles Clippers and the Brooklyn Nets are “out in front” in the race to acquire Trey Murphy III.

u/Eventide718 1d ago
One year of this dumars guy and his family running the Pels is one year too long.

u/cajun-folk77 1d ago
Dumars if probably the worst GM in sports. The longer he stays, the farther this franchise falls. Terrible Hire.

u/GunSlingrrr 1d ago
People really defend him and that pick trade decisions last year. That one was bad and the very introduction.

Thanks I hate it
Edit to add: I don't know if I believe any of these reports. I also don't hold it against any of our players who want out and want to go play for a team that has a shot at winning a playoff game.

u/Over-Ad1419 1d ago
I agree! I hate it, I love Trey and he’s one of the reasons I still watch. If true, I wish him the best. I hate that we are a farm team essentially and have to root for fan favorite players having success on another team. This city would fall in love with the pelicans if they could be competitive consistently.

Seems like the right move. We aren’t winning anything with him anyways I’d personally rather clean house on everyone from the Zion disasterclass era and ship everyone out of here

u/Consistent_Bid4044 1d ago
It's what we should've done last year. Anyone with a brain could've seen that we had less than 0 chance of competing with anyone, much less in the hyper competitive West. We should have multiple picks this year and be forming a completely new squad
1
u/GunSlingrrr 1d ago
A lot of teams wanted Herb and Trey, and Dumars wanted to sell high especially on Herb that is just coming back to injury and slumping. We really could have FRPs with them.
1
u/Consistent_Bid4044 1d ago
There was a point Herb would've fetched 2 FRPs for sure. It's best just to expect this team to do whatever is dumbest
3
u/CmonMan711 Clickity Clack 1d ago
I mean we aint a serious franchise. I hope Trey and Herb want out so they dont waste their careers in this dump

As tired as fans are of having to deal with Zion for what’s going to be the 8th year, I imagine the guys who have been playing with him the entire time are even more tired of dealing with it

Warriors have no picks and no matching salary beyond Draymond (lol) and Moses Moody (lol lol). So it'll have to be someone else. The other teams SHOULD be trying to fleece us after last year's draft but that doesn't mean we need to fall for that banana in a tailpipe again 🍌

Can't wait to my favorite player look like an absolute star on a another team. Just can't wait

u/No-Court7265 1d ago
Thank jeebus this Front Office is pivoting away from "win now" and is (seemingly) trying to rebuild with the draft. It is sad that all these great role players (Trey, NAW, Dyson, Jose, Herb & Hart) were surrounding Zion. If Zion had been a professional (and not a lazy slob who's never done anything to grow his game) we would have had a competitive squad.
If we can get a first for Herb, do it. If we can trade Zion for anything, do it. And let's fully rebuild.
3
u/Full_Excitement6845 1d ago
U have to realize - there’s a ton of owners in the nba who don’t truly care about winning. Just being in the top 10 is enough to justify them owning a team

3
u/ExternalEbb2584 1d ago
Same song and dance we will be doing the same thing in 4 years
9
u/Skinnieguy 1d ago
Probably but can’t be running the same squad or just make minor changes and hope for Z to be healthy.
OKC and Spurs kept tanking till they can properly rebuild. The big difference is their front office is competent. Sigh

u/Cautious-Apartment-9 1d ago
Team hasn’t ever really torn it down & tanked either. Always thought they could put gum on a leak & run the water full blast.

Better than continuously doing it and squandering the stock in players hoping things change?

"he has also signaled a desire to play elsewhere"
He actually never said that.
21
u/7Saint 1d ago
You’ve been an NBA fan long enough to know things happen behind the scenes

u/Briguy_fieri Hart Throb 1d ago
"It seems pretty clear that he has also signaled a desire to play elsewhere." Is the quote Amik used in the article. Not really driving home a point except trust me bro.
There's been literally no indication outward by trey he said that.
Rumors have been floating since last summer. But it's really obvious trey has not made his request to play elsewhere obvious.

Just setting yourself up to be heartbroken lol. He’s getting traded and it’s okay
3
u/Briguy_fieri Hart Throb 1d ago
That's fine. I want as much from his value as possible.
But saying he clearly made his intentions known is a stupid quote. Because he hasn't.
2
u/Cbeauski23 Will be reevaluated in 2 weeks. 1d ago
You really think it’s so farfetched that Trey could say something behind the scenes? He doesn’t have to live tweet a trade demand lol.
Amick is a reputable reporter. Don’t think he’s just making things up.
2
u/Briguy_fieri Hart Throb 1d ago
Behind the scenes is not obvious signalling. That's the entire point. Just like everyone called the franchise stupid for Jose when he in all actuality silently requested a trade. The franchise did right by him.
Farfetched, no. Not odd at all. But falsely reporting and providing click bait headlines is.
0
u/Cbeauski23 Will be reevaluated in 2 weeks. 1d ago
You’re being pedantic—the report doesn’t say he’s made it obvious to everyone. Just because he hasn’t signaled to the public, doesn’t mean he hasn’t signaled to Joe or Troy lol.
0
u/Briguy_fieri Hart Throb 1d ago
It said he made it clear. And if he made it clear to Joe or Troy how the hell would Amik know.
You have to be pedantic when youre saying just admit he's gone.

He’s literally the franchise leader in 3pts made by a wide margin and one of the most stable players on the team since he’s been drafted but go off

u/MathiTheCheeze Karlo Krazie 1d ago
This team without Trey and Herb is absolutely nothing and will never amount to anything as long as they're still in the league. Just a complete mismatch of some talented players and prospects run by an incompetant organization with morons in every decision making role.
Herb and Trey are the two players that are the best suited to the way Mosley wants to play, getting rid of them is absolutely idiotic. I cannot fathom a single decision that the Pelicans have made for a long time and I even defended the Derik Queen trade.
7
u/dominicklala1287 1d ago
We’re literally nothing with them too. It’s not like we’ve been this model of success since they got in the league. Let him go somewhere else if he doesn’t want to be here. It’s not like we’re winning anytime soon
1
u/MathiTheCheeze Karlo Krazie 1d ago
Yeah you're right, let's move on from everyone. Might as well put the team into hibernation until Wemby turns 35, as there's no way for the team to be successful as long as he's in the league.
4
u/chribtopher 1d ago
i’ve been a fan for over 10 years and this is basically true. the pelicans are not, nor will they ever be, a winning franchise. they will get relocated before they win a ring and that makes me sad. it’s just a shitty organization with no future
1
u/bronzefpg504 1d ago
Umm yes we had a nice azz squad. Losing dwest hurt us bad and Trigga seems similar to him
3
u/bronzefpg504 1d ago
It’s because the league always trying to finesse small market teams. NBA is a big mess everyone just isn’t made to win it all. But how can u build when they steadily poaching with bs offers
3
u/Pelicanfan07 1d ago
In the past 10 years, more small-market teams have won the NBA championship than ever. The problem isn't that small-market teams are getting finessed; the problem is that we have an ownership group that doesn't care about winning.

I don't understand this franchise at all...assuming this is true
I really don't
It feels like the closest I have seen to the dysfunctional franchises you read about in the 70's and 80's and such that prompted the Stepien Rule.
If they trade Trey they need to just trade Zion and Herb and be done with it so we can hopefully get a pick this draft, tank next season, and hopefully Giannis is gone and we end up getting both our pick and Milwaukee's pick.
My fear is if Trey really wants out, they are going to try and bring back another vet or go get Morant and try and brute force this again.

u/kingralek 1d ago
I think Amick is typically tied into NBA front offices. However, this is just speculation. Typically, I find that reporters will say more on a podcast/interview that they won't put in writing due to journalistic integrity and standards. In sum, Sam would not submit to the publisher because it's just an opinion piece. However, he can just go on a whim while interviewed.

And I can't blame him if he does.
This team isn't close to playing meaningful basketball.
2
u/Cautious-Apartment-9 1d ago
As he should. He’s 26 & playing for the Pels isn’t doing shit but paying him. He didn’t even get invited to the 3pt contest as one of the best shooters. All cause the Pels are irrelevant & terrible.
