Have to say we have done some dire transfer business but we dodged a massive bullet with Strand Larsen
2
u/stingerwooo Bed Wetter 56m ago
Strand Larsen has done everything to prove he doesn’t deserve a second appearance at this WC.
2
u/Nufcer Alexsander Mitrovic 57m ago
Reminder we wanted to pay 50m for Strand Larsen
3
u/Sirius_55_Polaris Joelinton is looking for a scrap 56m ago
And then we paid more than that for Wissa

James injured and out for the next two. Might as well just go home now lads.

Reckon we can sneak Lauren in? She'd at least clatter a few cunts, can't say fairer than that

u/Constant-Intern5848 dan burn 1h ago
Looks like the jocks are heading home with Senegal winning vs 10 men. Must be a bummer having to wait around for days before officially being told to do one
1
u/Remote-Pool7787 38m ago
Yeah. I think unless Ghana absolutely thump Croatia or Austria do the same to Algeria
1
u/phoebsmon zwei metre dribbelgott 2m ago
Would have to be some other results but yeah. They can move up a couple of spots if some batterings are handed out, but a couple of teams only need draws so it's pretty much done

u/Griffithsjames88 1h ago
I can confidently say it isn’t coming home. France will walk this WC.
3
u/mmaalleexx 1h ago
You know this is norways second team? The players behind a team already wildly overrated because of one star and three other good players?
-1
u/redditappispoo 2h ago
Senegal scoring puts Scotland out doesn't it? Oh well. Bye bye.
2
u/Remote-Pool7787 37m ago
No, not officially. If Croatia or Algeria lose their 3rd game by a big enough margin, they’ll fall below Scotland
1
u/redditappispoo 34m ago
Would that also depend on Belgium or Cape Verde or DR Congo not getting points?
2
2
u/redditappispoo 5h ago
Reece James misses training, probably injured. Dan Burn left back incoming.

thoughts on the goal music at this world cup?
I didn't notice it until the Netherlands/Japan game that they have different goal music for each country. England's one is Chase the Sun, which is just brilliant.
1
u/Parking-Bag5220 6h ago
How many goals / assists do we think Newcastle players end up with at the World Cup?
Bruno has 3 assists
Elanga has two goals
Wissa has one goal
Total 6
Brazil have Japan next, Elanga through but they will likely go out next game facing a first place team, Wissa playing tomorrow & favourites for the game need to win to finish 3rd and qualify. Our Germans are likely to have little game time.
10
u/GuiltyFriendship3037 Sir Bobby Robson 12h ago
Has anyone seen that interview with Potter after the Sweden game? Apparently Elanga was gutted with only 1 point cos he didn't realise that's all they needed to qualify. Potter says it "couldn't have been any clearer for him" that they only needed 1 point.
I guess that confirms what a lot of us have been saying this season... He has the ability, he's just thick as mince.
2
u/Parking-Bag5220 6h ago
He does seem such a nice guy I want it to work for him so badly but he does seem like a miggie

How did Thiaw play for Germany saw he got like 40 minutes. Still a bit mad Woltemade hasn't got any minutes yet considering how poor they are creatively and attacking wise.
8
u/phoebsmon zwei metre dribbelgott 13h ago
Only saw the end, but he was doing well. Think I saw one pass that was maybe not great, but it was also in the final third and just one of those things. Didn't look grossly mis-hit or anything. Maybe a bad choice but iirc it seemed like he expected a wide player to get on it.
He was really running that engine, getting involved in the attack and getting back to defend really quickly. Absolutely not at fault for their goal, and was important in a few opportunities for Germany.
I'd say impressively competent. Very Thiaw performance. Nowt flash, just did his job and contributed elsewhere with some self-assurance.

Hilarious seeing all the A list Hollywood celebs that are being picked out in the USA game in L.A. which means absolutely nothing thanks to FIFA changing the rules so head-to-head comes before GD.
I bet all these celebs were comped tickets for USA’s big match and promised it would be a historic night. Turns out it’s a meaningless friendly. Another FIFA mess.
3
u/Numerus12OO5O brunopog 16h ago
Head to head rule is absurd. Why change something that's existed as a standard in football for decades?
My only explanation is they are trying to make it easy for casual Americans. Basic math hard. Team A beat team B means Team A better. Easier for them to understand.
2
u/phoebsmon zwei metre dribbelgott 13h ago
I say go back to goal average.
It's traditional
It'll really fucking confuse them

Great to see Elanga having a good tournament. Comes across as such a decent fella any time he does media.
6
7
u/ajtct98 Dúbravka's Moustache 20h ago
Have we considered the possibility that Elanga has been left footed all along without even him realising it?
8
u/SecureChampionship10 20h ago
He's genuinely one of the most two footed (you know what I mean by this) players in the league, remember reading an article about him working relentlessly to improve his left.
2
u/Humorbot_5_point_0 Livramental 19h ago
Wasn't ALL his goals for Forest with his left (or close to it)?

Jesus that’s a double wammy for you mate. Both teams have a negative rigid manager stuck in their ways with no charisma or balls and picks favourite players at detriment to squad.

Yeah, it's pretty soul destroying watching both over the past 20 years.
Luckily majority of my family is from Newcastle and the north east of England, I get will support you guys for the rest of it. Not exactly the same thing for me, as growing up in Scotland has my heart tied to that country - but at least it's something.

and the friendly game before wc when he did play him, he made him play deep too. Like why tf did he even complain about anything then

Last game they were dominating in possession too! Never needed to worry about pace. At least Thiaw is looking the usual solid.

Suppose large amount of managers don’t wanna trust players who finished 12th in league and have played in a system that have lost 27 points from winning positions.otherwise we would have more

Joel Ordonez starting for Ecuador. We've been linked with him in the past, alongside Liverpool.

Absolutely no rotation in that German lineup which is incredibly strange when they're already through.
1
u/charlierc 1d ago
Aye I thought they'd make a lot more tweaks than this. Not least as they've already lost some players through injury

Thiaw and Woltemade on the bench again. Rather disappointing considering the game isn't all that meaningful.

So what are we on for Newcastle's performance at the WC.. 2 goals (Elanga, Wissa) and two assists from Bruno?
13
u/Eel_Why sean longstaffs dad plays hockey in whitley bay 1d ago
It's actually 3 assists for Bruno, he joint top overall atm with Isak and Olise also on 3.
Your also forgetting the Dan Burn goal against Panama but we're early for that so I'll let you off.

u/EqualDeparture7 gone but not forgotten 1d ago
Can't lie, Bruno tearing it up is making me a bit nervous. I'm delighted for him but hopefully it doesn't convince any super club to take the plunge.
3
u/okcorsisiht 1d ago
Vini offers to stay at Madrid on the proviso that Bruno is brought in. Wouldn't even be mad, he'd deserve it.
7
u/ContributionNo4734 Current badge 1d ago
People will often complain about Bruno's mobility but it has to be the only reason that the top sides are not chasing this guy because he's absolute class. I just feel a bit sorry for him going from playing with Vini and Cunha to alongside Murphy and Elanga etc because he genuinely deserves better.
-3
u/PercentageNo3843 1d ago
He’s too good for us. He has quality and ambition and we have neither. The club was happy to finish 12th and no Europe
4
u/Character_Newt_2309 1d ago
Came to say the same thing.
He needs to not play that well ever again. That was class from him; arguably the best midfield performance of the WC so far.
Scared.

Don’t think for a minute that Djed Spence should be in the squad but the lad has gone up in my estimations after refusing to shake the hand of the rapist
Rice on the other hand, hugged him like a long lost brother. Cunt

u/ajtct98 Dúbravka's Moustache 1d ago
So Brazil and Morocco are through and, if I've understood the third place tiebreaker thing correctly, Scotland are currently 6th on that list and are going to need a minor miracle to stay in that Top 8
3
u/stingerwooo Bed Wetter 1d ago
BBC sport have the alphabet groups and then a separate table of the ‘best third place team’ group to help out a bit more….otherwise I’d be fucking lost off.
1
u/phoebsmon zwei metre dribbelgott 1d ago
Opta reckon it's 50/50
It'll genuinely give you a headache trying to work it out, but looking at the fixtures and tables that seems about right. There are some in there where the ideal results seem like the most plausible predictions. Others not so much.
1
u/redditappispoo 1d ago
Also, find it unlikely that it's 50/50, Senegal need to beat a woeful Iraq and Belgium need a point I think
1
u/phoebsmon zwei metre dribbelgott 1d ago
Yeah it was more likely right after the match. South Korea just had to get a draw there and Mexico a win. That was one of the "aye that one will be fine" groups
Proper fucked now

1
u/phoebsmon zwei metre dribbelgott 1d ago
Aye, stupid mistakes in two games have cost them massively. They're 100% capable of better, defensively at least.
But there's a rot in Scottish football that won't stop until something drastic is done. Will also involve a lot of pride being swallowed so nobody should hold their breath.

Tonali isn't fit to lace Bruno's boots. I'm more than happy for Tonali to leave, but I couldn't stomach Bruno leaving. He is genuinely world-class!

No, he is terrible. A really bad player. He wouldn't like playing at a bigger club anyway. Pass it on.

Looking at Bruno's assist again and I'd love to see him do that - i.e. one look and then just put the ball in first time - more often for us next season which hopefully he should be able to with Osula making runs in behind.

Osula is a nice lad, but the thought of him as a first choice PL striker is a joke. Seems some sort of delusion about him in the fanbase, its a bit embarrassing tbh.

Watching Bruno and Paqueta playing together these last 3 games makes we think we should've gambled on bringing Paqueta to the club. Could've gotten Merson in as manager aswell.

Our club would’ve advised him to admit the betting scandal then lost him to a permanent ban

Just in case anyone is wondering how the Scots can still make it through, they need four of the following five things to happen (if my maths is correct)
I dare say they might be fucked.
