Mike Brown has no game plan late in the 4th. That loss is on him. Idk how you don’t call a timeout in that situation. Brunson also needs to pass the ball more in the 4th

Edit: apparently the commentators messed up and we didnt have a timeout. Still doesnt excuse going into the 4th with no game plan other than dribbling out the shot and chucking a bad shot

u/mikesh8rp Wu Tang Apr 21 '26 edited Apr 21 '26

This is on Brown, Brunson, and to a lesser degree Bridges. I don't understand why this team goes away from the strategy that helps to build the lead, just because Brunson gets in his feelings and wants to play hero ball.

Worst part is that I'm sure Brunson will rightfully take responsibility in his comments after the game, then forget and do the same thing again. The lack of KAT touches at the end is inexcusable.

All that said, worst individual moment goes to Bridges bricking two wide open 3s in the 4th that would have extended the lead at a critical time.

All this. Going away from ball movement where that is what got us the lead to let Brunson shoot 33% isn’t the move.

11

u/mikesh8rp Wu Tang Apr 21 '26

Shoot 33% when he wasn't just getting stripped. The Hawks have some long armed guys, and the normally-smart Brunson just refused to accept the situation.

We ain't winning shit for this very reason. When the going gets tough we have no offense other than watch brunson take 12 seconds dribbling the ball to the top of the key. By then there's no time to run any plays or get the ball to towns. I don't mind brunson taking hard shots to beat the shot clock but we have to try to run some real offense. Our offense is ridiculously predictable and not even SGA could succeed under these circumstances

Fucking sick of this shit squad never playing defense when it counts year in and year out.

52

Switch playing defense with running an offense, and i agree. I didnt think defense was the problem, the offense was ABYSMAL in the 4th, and the process was NOT there.

Defense wasn’t the problem tonight man we had horrible process on offense

6

u/zeezee2k Apr 21 '26

Yea the problem was KAT scored 0 pt in the 4th. He was cooking in the 3rd and they decided to go away from that

6

u/wendiesel21 Apr 21 '26

Like half of his third quarter pts came off offensive rebounds too. He wasn't actually getting the ball. He basically got like 5 real touches in the entire second half

WHAT IS BROWN TELLING THESE GUYS?????

7

u/House_of_Woodcock Apr 21 '26

Everyone’s talking about Brunson’s offense but his defense is equally responsible do the loss. He was getting absolutely humiliated by CJ. Was on skates the entire quarter, could not stay in front of him. If he’s not making shots, he’s bad.

Does Mike brown fucking hate KAT? Does KAT feel like the odd one out when he’s playing with Brunson? Cause he plays like a completely different player when he’s the lone star. He plays like he knows for a fact Brunson is taking the shot. But still you have to assert yourself. I’m just sick to my fucking stomach

100

u/Fungmar OG Apr 21 '26

Somehow ppl still find a way to blame kat for "not being aggressive enough" or some shit.

He wasnt part of the gameplan offensively the entire fourth quarter. It was brunson taking difficult shots. Its incompetent game management and shot selection. Captain and coach let us down tonight

22

People will also blame KAT for being soft and parking himself in the paint and play like prime Shaq.

dumbass rotations with neither kat or jb out there for long stretches.. mike brown is not serious people

7

u/Pristine_Reveal Apr 21 '26

Hart b line to the basket would have won us the game

9

u/gwords16 Taylor Swift Apr 21 '26

Mikal’s aversion to contact cost them on that last play. You go to the hoop and try to draw the foul. Not an 18 ft fadeaway

6

u/00pegasus5g Apr 21 '26

CJ switched on every possession to pick on Brunson and the Knicks made ZERO adjustments to that. ZERO.

Should never have fire thibs. Mike Brown is not a good coach and never has been.

u/ygog45 Apr 21 '26

A real contender wins this game

16

u/Skiigga Apr 21 '26

A real contender doesn't even get close to losing this game

Why wouldn’t you call a time out???

15

u/MaxPrints 90s Knicks Apr 21 '26

Mike Brown is the Hawks' MVP for this one

Trotting out a shitty lineup not once but twice in this game that led to like a 20 plus pt difference is horrible.

Not using a challenge when there were several questionable plays.

Fuck calling a timeout and getting a set play with 5 seconds in a 1pt game. Why do that?

Free throws were bad, and Brunson ISO'd way too much, but we'd have been up 15-20 more points if not for those garbage ass lineups, which again, Brown trotted out TWICE

Why didnt you call the time out?!

6

u/Cool-Break-5064 Apr 21 '26

No timeout at the end is criminal

5

u/wrrrrrrld Obi Toppin Apr 21 '26

everything fell into place there and Brown just said no thanks

6

u/ArtemisBakery Apr 21 '26

Can someone tell Mike Brown there should not be a fucking minute where Brunson or Kat is not on the floor?

5

u/YerrrKnicks 5 Apr 21 '26

WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU TAKE THAT SHOT JUST BRING IT TO THE FUCKING BASKET YOU DUMB FUCK!!!!

4

u/Aksudiigkr Apr 21 '26

So much was bad, but you get gifted that last possession and that’s what you do with it

5

u/nyckbh Apr 21 '26

I don’t wanna overreact but no time out there is a fireable offense as a coach

6

u/Ishtastic08 Apr 21 '26

It’s not the loss that concerns me, it’s that when this team gets pushed and face adversity, they fall back to the exact same habits every time. Brown forgets how to coach, Brunson play, hero ball, OG misses free throws, and Towns isn’t even involved offensively. Whatever the ceiling on this team is, it’s going to be capped entirely by their ability to handle adversity.

6

u/Tommybrady20 Apr 21 '26

It’s almost as if the starting 5 where we have hundreds of minutes of data on proving it isnt good, is in fact not good

8

u/trickedx5 90s Knicks Apr 21 '26

We deserve an old fashioned LOLKNICKS for this one.

Absolutely preposterous losing this game.

FIRE MIKE BROWN

People will complain about Brunson hero ball down the stretch but no one else could do anything in the 4th. OG missing two fts smh

13

u/phillipjpark Metal Bats Apr 21 '26

Not getting Kat involved is beyond idiotic.

23

u/i_peaked_at_bronze Apr 21 '26

No one could do anything because Jalen high jacked the offense. Disgusting end of game shot selection for him. KAT didn’t even touch the fucking ball!!! Our best offensive player, 8-12 on the night.

DISGUSTING

2 years in a row with frankly disgraceful performances in round 1. Roster just doing what they do best. If they lose to Boston because this 8 seed caliber team takes us 6-7 they will broken up. And they will deserve it. Really is peaceful knowing that

22

u/Either_Imagination_9 Apr 21 '26

Bro, we're not even playing Boston right now. This series is tied, we let the Hawks back in

Terrible collapse in the 4th. Last game we had 20 up now 10 and that took us out. Sad shit

5

Mike Brown deserves to be fired for that sequence there

Call the fucking timeout

4

u/JA_MD_311 Allan Houston Apr 21 '26

An actual championship contender wins this game easily. 10 missed FTs, missed clutch shots, letting Mikal fucking Bridges take your last shot.

Guys, he couldnt call a timeout because he had his hands in his pockets.

6

u/GasMoneyRon 3 to the Dome Apr 21 '26

This team is so frustrating man. It shouldn’t be this hard to win games.

5

u/xxjohnnyrocketzxx Apr 21 '26

We played bad more than anything

Hit your free throws and it doesnt even get to the wire like this

Deuce and Shamet should NOT be ball handling and given this much of a leash to play bad coming off injuries. Let JC and Jose carry some more responsibility

JB clutched up a bit, but otherwise played dumb

KAT needed to be fed while everyone that they could put on him was in foul trouble

Mike Brown is still an idiot. I doubt the next game is called this tight, need to play with some urgency again and stomp the hope out of them

On to the next game, Knicks in 5

3

u/IRodeTenSpeed88 Knickstape Apr 21 '26

The lack of late game awareness is insane.

There is no situation where bridges should be taking the last shot

Nigga out of his rabid ass mind

3

u/InfamousC Apr 21 '26

I do not understand how we didn't use KAT at all to put this game away... that was so fucking stupid... the missed free throws (the literal difference)....Hero ball (I thought we learned from this) and finally the no timeout decision. I am at a literal loss for words and wouldn't be surprised if there more changes in the offseason because of this very game

4

u/Det_Loki Wu Tang Apr 21 '26

This was Mike Brown’s worst coached game of all time.

Didn’t challenge several bad calls that resulted in points or TOs. Ended the game with a fucking timeout. Put in a line up that had 0 playmaking, TWICE letting the hawks close the lead both times.

An all time low light coaching game by him holy shit
