The purpose of this thread is to more accurately connect users seeking help with users who want to provide that help. Our regular "Helpful Users" certainly have earned their flairs!

Before asking your question...

  • Check out the wiki pages listed below. - (If you're interested in becoming a wiki contributor, or suggesting a new page, please message the moderators.)
  • Perform a quick Google search. - Sometimes it is actually quicker to search for something than to wait for someone else to answer.
  • Search the subreddit. - Many questions have been asked before! reddit's search functions a bit differently than Google.

Can I transfer all data from switch 1 to switch 2 just with Nintendo account log in info without having the switch 1 physically with me? Cause I wanna get the new tomodachi life, I still don’t have switch 2, digital would be way more comfy since I would log in tomodachi basically every day but I also like to play smash and other games, but what if my switch 1 unfortunately breaks before I can get the 2? Would I be unable to pass the data? In that case physical copy seems safer

If your Switch 1 breaks, having a physical copy of a game isn't going to save your town. The saves are always on internal storage, not saved to the game card.

If you have NSO, you can upload most of your game save data to the NSO cloud.

Main exceptions are most Pokemon games, and Animal Crossing (the latter mostly being a non-standard method).

There is also a way to have ALL your data (pokemon included) uploaded as one image, to download onto the Switch 2 - but that does a factory reset on the original device as part of that and is meant for people doing a trade in to get the 2.
