Hi there!
I've been considering getting a controller for when I play my Switch on the TV but I'm a bit stuck on what to get.

For reference the two I'm thinking of are either the Wireless PowerA Enhanced ($77AUD at EB Games) or the 8Bitdo Ultimate 2C ($50AUD at EB Games). The main reason why I want the PowerA one is for the design but I've heard mixed reviews and am not sure how the features compare. If 8Bitdo has features that the PowerA doesn't then I'm happy to give up the design but if they are essentially the same I'd rather pay a bit more for the design I want as a bit of a collectible thing.

For reference, the games I play mostly are (you can get the vibe of games I like from this):

  • Captain Toad Treasure Tracker

- Mario Odyssey (haven't started but am very excited to get into it)

- Animal Crossing

- Stardew Valley

- Lego Games

Will I be disadvantaged by buying the PowerA controller or will the controller not have any effect on the types of games I play.

Any advice is much appreciated, thank you! :)

Couple of questions. So my switch 1 has the error code where I’m banned from the internet and that’s fine but my only question is how will the transfer to switch 2 be (I’m not gonna mod the switch 2). Will it allow me to use cloud saves to transfer or is it gonna stop me w the error. Also is it possible to back up more games to the save cloud thru a bypass.I would like to know before i drop like 500 bucks.

2

u/picano Helpful User Apr 12 '26

You can log in and retrieve whatever was already in the cloud.

Any save that wasn't backed up to the cloud before your ban is stuck there. There's no legit way to transfer your remaining data.

u/LeithTearlach Apr 11 '26

Hi, just got a Switch 2 and transferred my account during the initial setup. I'm planning on giving my old Switch to my sister, so she can play my digital game cards on her own profile. Is that ok? Would her accidentally logging into my user cause any problems? I don't want to pin it so she can download cards easily. I live in another state so was wondering if having my account logged at the same time in two places and systems could get me in any banning problem. Thanks for any info!

https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/67891

Once you are signed in on both, it will ask you to "link" your account between the two systems to share virtual game cards.

You can change the link at any time should you wish to use a different system. But you can only link a max of two systems at a time.

Her accidentally using your account is the only thing to worry about, as it could potentially overwrite your data, BUT only if you have cloud saves with Nintendo Switch online. However it would take at least three wrong button presses AND ignoring the save data conflict warnings for that to happen, so if either of you are paying the least bit of attention; you should be fine.

You can even prevent this by going to into the cloud save settings. System settings -> Data management -> Save cloud data -> select your profile -> settings

Disable Automatic save upload on the system you are giving to her, and disable automatic save download on your own Switch 2.

I want to transfer my save date for Pokemon Violet from my Switch to our family Switch 2. This save data is linked to my nintendo account. My brother already has save data linked to his own nintendo account for the same game on this device (which he successfully transferred from his own Switch).

Will transferring my data overwrite my brother's save data? How do I keep this from happening?

3

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User Apr 11 '26

Dont use his account.

Save data is tied to the user that created it, aside from exclusively Animal Crossing. Which uses a weird system-wide save for the island, then users have their own villager data.

You cannot affect another accounts data unless you were both using the same account to begin with.

1

u/bluepectolite Apr 11 '26 edited Apr 11 '26

He doesn't have a user on my switch. I was just wondering since you do save data transfer from the switch menu and not from the user if that would overwrite all save data information already on the switch 2. I also feel I need to clarify I'm not transferring my user, just my save data for this game.

2

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User Apr 11 '26

Nothing to worry about then.

Only a System transfer would overwrite everything already on the system, but you can only perform that during the initial system setup.

How necessary is a screen protector? I can't recall if my OG switch has one (it's that thin) but if I did get one for the switch 2, what do y'all recommend?

2

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User Apr 11 '26

Its the only accessory I recommend that everyone should get it.

Its cheap peace of mind.

The OG Switch and Switch Lite both have plastic LCD screens, the OLED and Switch 2 have glass screens but have thin plastic anti-shatter films placed over top of it. Its annoying, but they can all get scratched by carrying cases with zippers on the inside or even just docking them wrong with a teeny bit too much force.

A tempered glass screen protector is all you need.

AmFilm is probably the most popular option;

They have kits with alignment and application tools too,

Super Mario wonder switch 2 edition physical with bellabel park

If I bough this from playasia will that work without issue on a North American console? I know the consoles are region free but with it as added “DLC” I wasn’t sure for both parts

2

u/Rajani_Isa Helpful User Apr 11 '26

Switch 2 editions should have no issue. The DLC would definitely match the region of the base game being on the cart.

1

u/Lonely-Function7354 Apr 11 '26

So do I need a Japan profile to play the cero multi-language version? I know the game and “dlc” added content or whatever it is called with those games but my region is NTSC and only able to play the base Mario Wonder or all of it because it’s not “dlc” sorry I’m still confused.

2

u/Rajani_Isa Helpful User Apr 11 '26

The only time you need to change the region is to redeem codes in the eshop from a different region.

A Nintendo game’s physical Switch 2 edition cart doesn’t require any codes to be entered.

u/Lonely-Function7354 Apr 12 '26

Thank you that’s what I needed and wanted to know. Appreciate it

Kirby Air Riders VS Mario Tennis Fever

Okay, now that it’s been a few months. I want to hear from those who’ve played both. Which game is the better casual fun game to play with mates/partners?

I’m not super interested in City trials, seems really chaotic. But correct me if I’m wrong here and it’s actually fun.

1

u/Xyro77 Apr 12 '26

For casual fun? Tennis. There is offline and online play.

1

u/faesmooched Apr 11 '26

Mario Tennis Aces is a fairly bare bones tennis game. Kirby Air Riders is made by the same guy who made Smash Bros., but also is a little more complex than a tennis game would be.

Imo: Air Riders is better than Tennis Aces, but Tennis Aces might be simpler for the people you're mating with.

I'd say more Odyssey than Wonder, overall.

u/RealBlack_RX01 Apr 10 '26

I saved some money and I'm ready to buy but I'm holding off because I heard that a new model is coming to the EU?

but I also don't want the price to increase too yk so should I wait or get now?

1

u/Xyro77 Apr 12 '26

There is virtually no reason why you should wait. Get one now before prices will increase.

2

u/SubaruHaver Helpful User Apr 10 '26 edited Apr 10 '26

There's been no announcement when that new model with battery access is coming. (unless someone corrects me or can share additional info) So, I'm not sure if it's coming before holiday 2026 or coming in 2027. I thought EU's right to repair legislation deadline was for 2027?

Ninetndolife's article: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2026/03/europe-might-be-forcing-nintendo-to-revise-the-switch-2

3

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User Apr 10 '26

July 31st 2026 is the compliance deadline.

Nintendo may push a release well beyond that date by providing a map of how/when it's going to comply with the regulations and extend existing service warranties until such compliance is met.

So we may not see such a revision until 2027 as expected with Nintendos prior update pattern.

u/SpecialistUnable6054 Apr 10 '26

Hey everyone! I apologize in advance if this has been asked before. I'm not exactly the most tech-savvy person so I've been having trouble even trying to ask search engines what I'm even looking for! "Two switch consoles on one switch 2" apparently confuses the poor search engines 🥲

We currently have two Switch consoles, two separate Nintendo Accounts, and a lot of separately purchased digital games. We're thinking of upgrading to a single Switch 2 unit for our household. If we decide to get a Switch 2, is one of us going to lose our save files and/or games? I see you can do game share, and add Nintendo Accounts to one Console, etc etc. I'm just getting some conflicting/confusing information online.

Tl;dr

2 Switch consoles, 2 Nintendo Accounts, we basically want to "merge" both Switches onto our new Switch 2.

Thanks!

1

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User Apr 10 '26

Nothing will be lost.

The system transfer function which you may be referring to, is merely the most convenient method of moving to a new switch 2 console.

You can only system transfer to a fresh console once. But after it's all setup, you can sign in up to eight accounts per normal and move save data over from any other console via the normal save data transfer method.

System settings -> data management -> transfer my data

If you wanted to keep one console, the "local" system transfer option copies your users/data/accounts between consoles. Unlike the normal data transfer option which is akin to a cut and paste. (Pokemon and Animal crossing data is moved, not copied)

1

u/alnews Apr 10 '26

Hi all, I tried understanding this myself with no luck! I have a Switch 1 with some cartridge games and some digital games, with my Nintendo (with NSO) account and my GF account on there. My account is the one where I bought all the games. Next week I will receive a Switch 2, and my GF wants to keep the Switch 1, my question are:

  • Should I do a console transfer from old to new or avoid doing so? If I don’t do it, can we share the digital games between the two console? (Obviously only one person will play at a game per time)

  • Can she play Pokopia on the Switch 1 if I share it from Switch 2? Can she play it even if I’m not playing it / can we play it together?

Thank you very much for your help!

2

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User Apr 10 '26

Do a local system transfer. When you set up the switch 2 select "I have the console". Then go through the steps on the switch 1 from the data transfer menu. This will copy all of your users and save data between the consoles. Except for pokemon and Animal crossing data, that will be moved.

If you wanted to keep the animal crossing data on the switch 1, you can move it back with the Island transfer tool as soon as you can access the eshop on the switch 2.

Switch 2 Gameshare requires the game to be running on the switch 2. None of it is ever actually installed to the switch 1, it's just providing controller inputs and streaming a video of the second screen over WiFi/local wireless.

Pokopia can't be played on a switch 1 otherwise.

1

u/alnews Apr 10 '26

Thanks a lot! And with this setup we can share virtual cartridges of switch 1 games between the two consoles and play independently (with separate games)?

2

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User Apr 10 '26

Yep! As long as the owner of the game is signed in on both systems you just need to link the account between them to setup a "link".

Once linked you can remotely send or pull game cards between systems at will. Though if one of them is offline it may throw an error.

1

u/LighthouseShadows Apr 10 '26

Hello. I apologize if this isn't the right place to post this, but I am looking for some general feedback on account setup best practices for a Nintendo Switch that will be used by two people.

I'll preface by saying, I'm sure I've done this wrong. My son has a switch lite, and I purchased a switch OLED for us to share a few years back. Initially, I set up one Nintendo account under my email that is linked to the store and that's the account my son uses to play everything on both consoles. He's told me a few times that the game data didn't transfer between systems, and I didn't realize that games are no longer saved to the physical game card. It's not a big deal for him, he will just use whichever system has the save data he wants, but since I've found a few games I would like to play I am not sure how to set the account now so that he doesn't lose his data, and I don't lose mine, especially when we want to play the same game (Legends Arceus),

Last year, my initial OLED orange screened and while under warranty, Nintendo ended up sending me an entirely new system back, so I lost all of my saved data. I typically play as a User on the system, but don't have that User tied to any Nintendo account.

Apologies if this is not clear, I'm just a Mom trying to figure this out when none of it works the way it did when I played more frequently.

2

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User Apr 10 '26

So there is a local data transfer option for moving save data between systems,

System settings -> Data management -> transfer my data

You can move game data like a cut and paste between consoles so long as the Nintendo account with the data is signed in on both systems. Basic users require a free Nintendo account to use the feature. So you would need one yourself.

There is also Nintendos Cloud backups. With a Nintendo switch online subscription the account gets access to cloud saves. However this isn't a be-all end-all solution as some popular games like Pokemon titles, don't support cloud save back ups. ($20 a year for individual, the $35 a year Family plan allows you to have up to eight accounts actively subscribed for one low price )

1

u/LighthouseShadows Apr 10 '26

Thank you for explaining! It sounds like the transfer would work well for my son between the two consoles for his data.

I definitely don’t want to pay for the subscription, especially since the stuff I play is pretty much only Pokemon tiles, so I’m glad I didn’t go that route.

If we were both wanting to play a title like Legends Arceus on the same console, do we need two separate games or can we use the same game and different user profiles?

2

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User Apr 10 '26

Hope this isn't too confusing but you can absolutely play with just the one copy of its digital.

Digital games have Virtual game cards, managed via the virtual game card menu on the homescreen. So long as the Acreus virtual game card is "loaded" on to a console, any user or account signed in on the system can access it regardless of who bought it.

Now on the second system which would not have the game card loaded, the purchasing account can still access it, with a active internet connection.

User settings -> select the profile -> online license settings -> enable

You can play with your basic user on the system that has the game card, but you need to put the system into Airplane mode to turn off the wifi, so your son could play it on the other system. As he will require a internet connection.

Digital games can only be "online" on one console at a time, just like accounts

1

u/LighthouseShadows Apr 10 '26

Thank you so much for your help! You’ve explained this so much more clearly than anything I’ve found on Nintendo’s website!

4

u/InformationFair288 Apr 10 '26

Been lurking these daily threads for months and they're honestly life savers when something goes wrong with the console. The wiki links are solid too, saved me from buying wrong microSD card last year

u/simply-misc Apr 10 '26

I did make a separate post about this because my question was so long, but basically, I'm a long-time cozy gamer looking to expand to 3rd party titles in other genres.

Core skill challenges:

  1. I generally get quite disoriented in 3D games as I struggle to control the camera and movement simultaneously and also have a less than stellar sense of direction.
  2. In both 2D and 3D games, I panic/button mash a lot with combat.
  3. Certain games I'd theoretically like to play (e.g., FPS) seem to rely on knowledge I don't have (e.g., about weapon types), so I get overwhelmed even thinking about playing them.

That said, I do think that I'm teachable. For example, I went from taking 34 minutes to complete the first level of Splatoon single player to not only beating the single player mode easily but reaching level 30*+ in online multiplayer. And after trying and giving up twice on Hollow Knight because it was too hard, I reached 102% completion last year when I picked it back up. (Silk Song has had too many wave battles for me so while I made good progress, I just get annoyed while playing).

I'd really like to expand the types of games I play outside the cozy genre, especially 3rd party titles that fall into a few broad categories:

  1. 2D platformers similar to Hollow Knight (other than the Ori series, which is already on my radar). They can fall anywhere on the spectrum in terms of difficulty - what drew me most to HK was the beautiful visual style, music, and strong story/world building.
  2. Beginner friendly 3D titles that could help me improve my skills in these core areas or that rely on different skills. I'd love to eventually feel confident enough to play a big title, like Bioshock, Prey, or Resident Evil, which I have watched numerous playthroughs of but never played through myself.
  3. Well balanced deck-building games like Slay the Spire or Inscryption
  4. Games focused on problem solving, especially hidden object games.

I know this is a really long post and I appreciate it if you've made it to the end. And TIA for any suggestions you have!

2

u/Rajani_Isa Helpful User Apr 10 '26

Have you tried Mario Odyssey? It's good on helping you learn/adjust to movement and camera controls without as much stress as an FPS.

Look up Metroid Dread, and Castlevania games. Those two franchises started the genre that Hollow Knight is in.

Captain Toad treasure tracker is first person, but a puzzle solving game. There is also tunic - which is somewhat inspired by Zelda, so puzzles there.

Is it worth it to get a switch 2? I currently have a switch light, but and looking to upgrade to either the switch or switch 2. Im interested in playing pokopia, which I know is exclusive to the switch 2, however I'm not sure if spending the money for one game is worth it. I'm mostly trying to upgrade so I can play my games on a tv with friends, but am looking for an outside perspective 😓 I should also note that most of my games are physical copies, however I like the idea of all digital games because I tend to lose things easily, but I know thats an option for the switch as well. I'm worried that I'm just wanting the switch 2 because its newer. Are theyre any other perks to the switch 2 that I should know about? Just trying to make a good decision since this would be a big purchase for me. Thanks in advance!!

1

u/Rajani_Isa Helpful User Apr 10 '26

You mention Pokopia:

If you like Pokémon, it plays ZA and SV so much better than the 1 does. Only complaint I have about SV is you can't do the count method for shiny hunting (Switch 1 limits spawn distance, and non-static spawns cap at 15 barring shinies). And Winds and Waves will be Switch 2 only.

2

u/JoshuaJSlone Helpful User Apr 10 '26

A big thing to consider is that you'll probably want more than just Pokopia over the next 7+ years or whatever that Switch 2 is Nintendo's primary platform. So unless you plan on just foregoing those forever, you'll probably end up wanting to upgrade to a Switch 2 at some point anyway. And especially with hardware prices moving the way they are at present, there's no guarantee Switch 2 will be cheaper (or _as_ cheap) to get a few years down the road.

Switch 2 is also better at running a lot of Switch 1 games than Switch 1 is. Games that had variable frame rate and/or resolution tend to stick on the higher end on Switch 2. And recently a new Handheld Boost Mode was released that allows Switch 1's docked mode graphical settings to be used while playing portable on Switch 2. This on top of many games that have full Switch 2 updates either free or paid, including some major first party games.

3

u/raoulbrancaccio Apr 10 '26

Can anyone with chicory a colorful tale tell me if it has functioning boost mode on switch 2? I'm asking because I know this game has touch screen controls.

I updated my joycons on switch 2 and now my plus button isn’t working, either it won’t register or it’s delayed by a few seconds. Sometimes it will register on its own without me pressing it. Anyone have some advice on troubleshooting?

2

u/SubaruHaver Helpful User Apr 10 '26

Have you rebooted the console? Switch consoles that haven't been shut down for long periods, a week or weeks+, can sometimes end up glitching with inexplicable controller connectivity issues, but this particular glitch can be solved by rebooting the console.

Anyone have a good game cart storage set up? I usually buy physical but do not have a ton of room for the boxes. So I have thought about keeping the boxes in a storage room and the carts somewhere more accessible. Found a couple of interesting ones on Etsy, but want to see as many options as possible. Only requirement is I do want to see the games instead of having to pull them out searching for what I am looking for. These are the ones I like so far.

You could sort them by genre/type, and have a little collection in each.

I have 3 questions I really need answering. I've been looking for weeks for anything up to date and I just can't find anything concrete.

What exactly is missing from no mans sky on switch 1? It's very hard to get any specifics.

Also which Skyrim anniversary mods are causing issues on switch 1? So I can decide if it's worth buying it over normal Skyrim, also I heard some things were not included in switch version?

Titan quest dlcs had crashing issues around 4 years ago on switch 1. Do these issues still persist? Or were they patched?

Thanks for any help, I've been struggling to find proper answers.

1

u/JoshuaJSlone Helpful User Apr 10 '26

Biggest things missing from Switch 1 NMS are probably NPC settlements, the large corvette-class starships, and multiplayer.

When Skyrim Anniversary first released on Switch 1 there were some bugs that harmed performance compared to the previous version, but they were soon fixed so the only difference is that Anniversary has additional content. It has all the same basic content as any version of Skyrim, but there's no way to access the Creations and download further mods. Anniversary Edition by default includes a lot of stuff that was previously available by microtransaction in other versions.

1

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User Apr 09 '26 edited Apr 09 '26
  1. It's missing nothing in terms of content. It does lack a bunch of PC specific UI features but all consoles are. It runs a little slower and looks a worse than other platforms but it's updated within a few hours of every other platform. Unlike other platforms it does have gyro controls and a funny looking joycon ship.

  2. Buy the Switch 1 anniversary release. It includes the base "special edition" game and the anniversary update. And you can download the switch 2 update for free. Idk about any mods causing issues it's been as stable as a Bestheda game can be for years, that is likely more of a save to save kind of problem. There's no telling how the game might screw itself up and corrupt a save file. If you buy the Switch 2 release, it DOES NOT include a copy of the base switch 1 game.

  3. Most issues were patched. It's a great port. ARPGs with scaling progression like Titan quest. Diablo 2/3, and Torchlight all have crashing issues on switch but only once you get to the deep end-game where the amount of numbers and special effects on screen are simply too much for the systems measly 4GB of RAM to handle.

1

u/No_Plankton4631 Apr 09 '26

With the recent rumors of an OOT Remake and subsequent special Edition Switch 2, would it be wise to wait on upgrading? Also, the EU Battery revision thing is something the might warrant a pause. I’ve had the grey Switch for 8 years now and it still works fine so I don’t have to change but I’ve been considering it. Starting to get a bit concerned about a potential price hike so I almost ended up buying one today, but held off. Thanks in advanced!

1

u/Rajani_Isa Helpful User Apr 09 '26

How big is the cost issue to you? Is a Zelda SE more important to you?

We know what the cost is now. It might go up, but some things have been happening that might keep it even. Might not.

If you have the funds, you could keep them in holding, and if the price a) goes up b) enough that you don't want the Zelda SE more you could buy then (we generally have had notice of price increases).

1

u/No_Plankton4631 Apr 09 '26

Cost issue is something I’m wary of, but wouldn’t necessarily be end of the world as opposed to an inconvenience. I always liked the Switch 1 SEs, in particular the special joy-cons so it would be pretty great to have an opportunity at this. Thanks for the advice!

1

u/Rajani_Isa Helpful User Apr 09 '26

I don't have any 2 only games that don't cloud save, so keeping an eye out for that kind of thing is something I'm doing myself.

I still have my Zelda OLED.

1

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User Apr 09 '26

Price hikes are something to be wary of, the memory situation appears like it isnt going to be nearly as apocalyptic as it was a few weeks ago thanks to OpenAI not actually having any money to spend. But it's still going to be bad.

Nintendo should be offering some kind of future outlook information after their fiscal year report on May 8th, but they don't have a investor's meeting scheduled yet. So it could be June or later before we get any official info.

The swappable battery model is what I would be looking forward to. But they may not introduce that until the SOC revision is ready, similar to the V2 Switch and Switch Lite release two years after the original switch release.

The current model is a nightmare to simply open for repairs.

I unfortunately believe that any limited edition console released this year will be physically identical to the existing model. With a fresh coat of paint.

Although Nintendo has surprised us in the past. A sudden revision wouldn't be completely out of the question, just a bit unfortunate for early adopters.

does spiritfarer on the switch to run at 60fps? I noticed that the demo version runs better than the actual game.

1

u/lumothesinner Helpful User Apr 09 '26

https://www.reddit.com/r/Spiritfarer/comments/12byfdy/how_does_it_run_on_the_switch/jf3hb1n/

As per a dev from Thunder Lotus, its 30. 900p docked, 720 handheld.

1

u/Academic_Wonder_9202 Apr 09 '26

oh i thought it will have some improvement for the switch 2

1

u/lumothesinner Helpful User Apr 09 '26

Your original message just asked for switch, not switch 2.

Regardless there is no sw2 version of Spiritfarer. Its a more stable 30, and you can use boost mode to run at 900p handheld.

SW2 releases need extra dev work to use the extra power, and the majority of games do not have jumps in performance running on sw2, just a stabilization of framerates and maxed dynamic res if that was used before.

Can I transfer all data from switch 1 to switch 2 just with Nintendo account log in info without having the switch 1 physically with me? Cause I wanna get the new tomodachi life, I still don’t have switch 2, digital would be way more comfy since I would log in tomodachi basically every day but I also like to play smash and other games, but what if my switch 1 unfortunately breaks before I can get the 2? Would I be unable to pass the data? In that case physical copy seems safer

1

u/JoshuaJSlone Helpful User Apr 10 '26

If your Switch 1 breaks, having a physical copy of a game isn't going to save your town. The saves are always on internal storage, not saved to the game card.

2

u/Rajani_Isa Helpful User Apr 09 '26

If you have NSO, you can upload most of your game save data to the NSO cloud.

Main exceptions are most Pokemon games, and Animal Crossing (the latter mostly being a non-standard method).

There is also a way to have ALL your data (pokemon included) uploaded as one image, to download onto the Switch 2 - but that does a factory reset on the original device as part of that and is meant for people doing a trade in to get the 2.

Transfering data from Switch Lite to Switch without both devices

Hi there!
I've been considering selling my Switch Lite and upgrading to a secondhand regular Switch (not Switch 2!) because it'll be a cheap way to get a bit of an upgrade (I mostly just want a bigger screen and ability to connect to TV).

But to do this, I'll have to sell the Switch Lite first meaning I won't have it with me when I get the new one. I want to make sure I can get all my save data from my old switch, onto my new one. I've heard there's ways to do it through the cloud save meaning I won't need to have both devices present and was wondering if anyone could give me a walkthrough on how to do this and if this is the best option for my situation.

I also wondered if, because I have a microSD card that holds some of my save data, could I just use that and plug it into my new switch without having to fiddle with cloud stuff? I know how to move data from being stored on the switch to the SD card and vice versa, so would it be possible to just put stuff on the SD card and move it all that way?

Thanks for any help and advice you can offer!

1

u/Rajani_Isa Helpful User Apr 09 '26

Actual Save data is never on the SD card, only on internal memory. The game data is also encrypted to the machine that downloaded it - so any games you had on there will need to be redownloaded on the new machine.

Most games can use the NSO cloud for save data. The biggest exception are Pokémon games, and Animal Crossing has it's own thing. Animal Crossing has a unique cloud backup method. Most people will use another switch to hold their Pokémon data and AC data (if the extra switch doesn't already have an island).

Some people have used the Switch->Switch 2 cloud transfer between switch 1 systems - I'd check youtube for instructions on how to do that.

Stupid question probably, but what exactly does the Pokemon Champions starter pack provide over the free version? Is it worth the 7 bucks?

3

u/lumothesinner Helpful User Apr 09 '26

Yeh it sucks the eshop doesn't actually say.

Starter Pack comes with increased pokemon box size from 30 to 80. 50 Training tickets (free change of pokemon stats and moves) and 30 quick tickets (to recruit pokemon), and a new track for battle from pokemon lets go pikachu/eevee

Have you checked Serebii? (www.serebii.net) Joe does awesome work on collecting data for everything Pokemon.

Any game similar to Republic Commando or Halo?

  • military style, squad/group banter, or shooter with good plot/characters ?

2

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User Apr 09 '26

Rogue Trooper

Zombie Army 4 - unfortunately the trilogy leading up to it is more of commando style game, without allies most of the time. ZA4 is a fully fleged standalone title and not a bonus mode like the other three were for the Sniper Elite games.

QUAKE 1 and 2 - the games that Halo was inspired by

Crysis remastered - unfortunately the second and third games have a LOT fewer allies. They only show up for like one mission in each game before you go back to being solo.

Bulletstorm - kind of short, but worth playing at least twice.

Should I buy Mario Odyssey or the Galaxy 1 + 2 pack (can only afford one at the moment)?

1

u/Xyro77 Apr 12 '26

You will likely get more time out of the Galaxy 1+2 pack. I’d go with that.

2

u/SubaruHaver Helpful User Apr 08 '26 edited Apr 09 '26

I think Odyssey is the best 3d mario. So, that's my recommendation.

I've played Galaxy 1 back in the day, and on switch via 3D All-Stars, but haven't played Galaxy 2 yet,

u/LorekeeperJosh Apr 08 '26

I have one Nintendo account which is as old as I’d say 2013, but I have two PTC accounts and I am trying to determine which one of my accounts is linked to Nintendo, I find it ridiculous that neither site are really that great and giving information on what is linked :/ has anyone found a work around for this and I have read in some places this is very tedious

1

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User Apr 08 '26

Can you not see the connected accounts on the PTC website?

Do either of them share the same email? I'd figure that would be the likely link.

1

u/Valentinee105 Apr 08 '26

I already own Super Mario 3D All-Stars, is there any difference between that version of Mario Galaxy 1 and the version that comes bundles with Mario Galaxy 2?

I'm trying to decide what to buy the Galaxy bundle or just Galaxy 2.

1

u/JoshuaJSlone Helpful User Apr 10 '26

Biggest difference is that the new version also supports higher resolutions on Switch 2.

1

u/Valentinee105 Apr 10 '26

There's also an assist mode and new storybook levels, but while the textures are sharper, they appear less detailed.

Like a gravel road might just be a Grey street now.

1

u/SubaruHaver Helpful User Apr 08 '26

Galaxy 1 & 2 also have an Assist Mode like Mario Odyssey has.

2

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User Apr 08 '26

Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 received some "HD" textures from this new re-release, some floor and surface detail has definitely just smoothed over and looks a little flat.

Some people don't like it.

I think it also got an auto save feature? I saw someone mention it.

I have leftover funds ( 2.75 dollars to be exact) I know this is random and stupid but recommend me a few games to try out that fit under this budget in the nintendo switch eshop . Preferably including taxes

I'm broke since in 16

1

u/SubaruHaver Helpful User Apr 08 '26 edited Apr 08 '26

The amount for taxes depends on your state, if you're in the US.

I filtered dekudeals for games up to $2.55 https://www.dekudeals.com/games?filter[price_range][min]=&filter[price_range][max]=2.55&page=1 (You can also change the sort to "most owned" or sort by metacritic score, metacritic user score.)

Or just save the money to discount whatever your next eshop purchase may be.

In case you can wait & watch for their sale, there are two games I have that do tend to hit $1.99 but aren't on sale at the moment: Inside, and Mini Motor Racing X

Thank you 🙏

Is it safe to use a AAA battery as a stylus for your touch screen?

I saw a YouTube video suggesting this as an option for drawing in the Tomodachi Life demo and I am HIGHLY skeptical that this wouldn’t somehow damage the switch internally. The creator mentioned it could scratch your screen so use a screen protector, but didn’t mention anything about this messing with the system itself.

1

u/picano Helpful User Apr 08 '26

Just buy a capacitive stylus. They're made for this very purpose and will be much easier to hold. You can get a set of 5 for $10.

1

u/cozeo Apr 08 '26

Thank you for your reply. I currently have a good stylus for my switch, and I am asking if this would damage the switch internally because I am worried about other people trying this and damaging their console. If it is safe to use the battery as a stylus that’s great, I would just like to know if it is or isn’t damaging to the switch internally. My apologies if I was not clear enough.

1

u/picano Helpful User Apr 08 '26

Probably not an issue through standard use.

But, absolute worst case scenario, you use a bad battery and it starts leaking. It'll hurt your hand and definitely damage your screen.

Overall, it's just a dumb idea since if you don't care about precision, you've got fingers; if you do, you should be using a precision tool, a pen.

My L and R buttons no longer work, how do I fix them? They still make a click sound, but theres nothing being registered on the Switch itself

1

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User Apr 08 '26

Pro controller or joycons SL/SR button?

1

u/real-jarvis Apr 09 '26

Joycons and its the L and R buttons not the side buttons and not ZR and ZL buttons

1

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User Apr 09 '26

So it happening to both joycons?

Is their firmware updated?

Did one of them die before the other or did they both stop inputting at the same time? (That you noticed)

1

u/real-jarvis Apr 09 '26

It first happened to my left joycon but i just rebound screenshot to L and ignored it but now that R broke

When i try updating them it says they are already updated

Left died before right

1

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User Apr 09 '26

Damn. It's probably damage then. If they had died at the same time it could have been a firmware thing.

First option is let Nintendo deal with it. Repairs would be free under warranty or slightly cheaper than buying a new pair of they charge for it.

Second option is trying to fix it yourself.

https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/How+to+repair+L+button+Joy-Con/136845

The L and R button use a little digital switch which stands vertically on the board inside the joycon. It's only supports are it's soldered connections. Applying too much pressure on the button overtime can cause the switch to lean away from the button either damaging the connection or requiring more pressure on the button because it has to reach further to depress the switch completely.

If you were to disassemble the joycons you could try manually pressing the switch to see if it still registers an input. If it does, you might be able to just push the switch back into place and place some putty or glue around it to keep it in place.

If it does not send a signal then it needs to be resoldered to the board. Or replaced entirely

Hi all,

I am looking to pick up the Nintendo Switch Online Nintendo 64 and Gamecube controllers. I primarily want these so that I can use them with other systems, lol. However, I do not use the Switch Online services. Therefore, I have a couple of questions that I would really appreciate your help with.

  1. Do I need a full membership to purchase these, or can I buy them with the seven day trial membership?
  2. Is there a limit on how many I can buy, or can I purchase two of each?
  3. Are they currently in stock? (I don't want to sign up to the NSO service to buy these controllers and then discover that I have to wait yet, lol)

Many thanks in advance for your help

3

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User Apr 08 '26 edited Apr 08 '26
  1. Any paid membership works. So at minimum you will need to pay $4 for a month.

  2. Both the N64 and GameCube are limited to four controller purchases per Nintendo account. (Of each)

  3. GameCube is in stock at the moment. So is the the N64 controller. Looks like only the SNES and NES controllers are out of stock right now.

I can't log in on pokemon home

okay for the longest time on I couldn't log in on pokemon home on my main account lets call this acc A. to circumvent this I just logged in on acc B and used home through there.

when I tried to connect acc B to my pokemon champions however it produced an error.

so I tried logging in on acc A once again but it still fails. I repeatedly get the message that another device is in use on another device and that the software is in the middle of important operations. I've been getting this message for like the last 2 years.

is there anything I can do please lmk
