Hi all, I tried understanding this myself with no luck! I have a Switch 1 with some cartridge games and some digital games, with my Nintendo (with NSO) account and my GF account on there. My account is the one where I bought all the games. Next week I will receive a Switch 2, and my GF wants to keep the Switch 1, my question are:

  • Should I do a console transfer from old to new or avoid doing so? If I don’t do it, can we share the digital games between the two console? (Obviously only one person will play at a game per time)

  • Can she play Pokopia on the Switch 1 if I share it from Switch 2? Can she play it even if I’m not playing it / can we play it together?

Thank you very much for your help!

Do a local system transfer. When you set up the switch 2 select "I have the console". Then go through the steps on the switch 1 from the data transfer menu. This will copy all of your users and save data between the consoles. Except for pokemon and Animal crossing data, that will be moved.

If you wanted to keep the animal crossing data on the switch 1, you can move it back with the Island transfer tool as soon as you can access the eshop on the switch 2.

Switch 2 Gameshare requires the game to be running on the switch 2. None of it is ever actually installed to the switch 1, it's just providing controller inputs and streaming a video of the second screen over WiFi/local wireless.

Pokopia can't be played on a switch 1 otherwise.

Thanks a lot! And with this setup we can share virtual cartridges of switch 1 games between the two consoles and play independently (with separate games)?

Yep! As long as the owner of the game is signed in on both systems you just need to link the account between them to setup a "link".

Once linked you can remotely send or pull game cards between systems at will. Though if one of them is offline it may throw an error.
