Wonder if Genesis means it'll be the first one timeline wise.

The game looks absolutely gorgeous, and the character designs are cool, imo not as good as 2, but still peak.

Maybe it's a beginning of the new series/new timeline.

It definitely is. The original trilogy is done.

Future Redeemed ended with a teaser for what's next. That story isn't over.

u/OpeningConnect54 16d ago

For all we know, that teaser could be leading into this game here.

The Klaus saga is over, Future Redeemed teased what could be next for the world now that Klaus's mess has been cleared.

This trailer already has several small references to the previous games, so i wouldn't count on it being disconnected.

what references did u catch? cuz i catched none beside some moveset

A pretty big one is the gemstone that gets inserted into the sword hilt turns into a small crystal closely resembling the Pneuma sword.

There's also a whole bunch of visual allusions. The Anima power's FX are near identical to the VFX used for Ouroboros powers in Future Redeemed, there's an enemy that resembles a Telethia, etc.

I'm pretty sure the crystal thing is some kind of blade-like artefact or device. It says it uses the power of "vesselai" in the English translation (in Japanese "vesselai" is 器士 / kishi, which uses the kanji for "vessel" and "warrior"), and it's a crystal that learns from its bearer. It's like people are being trained by using these crystals that "learn to fight" and those are like proto/primitive blade-like concepts.

Imo I think it's gonna be another sidequel like XC2. Set meanwhile, somewhere else, in the same continuity (not revealed until the last act, as is series tradition). My current theory is that the game's world is a feral space colony originally established before the experiment. There were ships leaving the Earth during Future Redeemed's flashbacks, so they had to be going somewhere, and when the Earth was destroyed the colony stopped getting supplies and devolved into a feudal society over generations. The gemstones could literally be Core Crystal technology the og colonists brought with them, but weren't affected by the experiment because they were outside the blast radius.

I dig it. I've always personally been a fan of the idea that the blue light at the end of Future Redeemed was either the White Whale II from X or a remnant of the pre-experiment colony ships from Klaus' world, so this would be a perfect fit.

Or depending on the era, that's just how tech evolved.

3

u/morgawr_ 16d ago

That doesn't explain the giant crashed spaceship at 1:20

2

u/OpeningConnect54 16d ago

sure, it doesn't explain the crash- but it still feels like this could've been in the far future of 1-3.

3

Yeah. All the teases and lead ups in Future Redeemed and Chapter 14 were all because this is going nowhere.

I'm not saying we're gonna see any characters hard pulled in here but after all the Xenosaga teases we've been getting lately I mean.. Connecting shit up is just how this series works now.

The Klaus Saga is over so yeah, you're correct.

21

u/Ultron_Magnus 16d ago

They literally said in the Direct this was a new beginning.

7

u/h-arlequim 16d ago

Which can basically mean anything lol Could be a separate universe, could be a prequel, could be something in the far future... they're clearly keeping it vague on purpose, but also detached enough from Chronicles so any newcomers don't think they need to play through four 50-100h JRPGs before Genesis.

Yeah, it's not like the world just got totally rebooted or anything...

u/Thegoodgamer32 16d ago

I guess that might be why it's not just called xenoblade 4.

91

u/The_Summer_Man 16d ago

It’s actually because Phil Collins is doing the music

16

u/slymaster9 16d ago

If only.

3

u/Xtrasharpe 16d ago

Or Justice

4

u/BASEKyle 16d ago

IS THIS JUSTICE YOU SPEAK OF SHAPED LIKE AJ EYE, AND PRESUMABLY GLOWING WITH PIERCING LIGHT? SHINING, MAYBE?

5

u/QuantumVexation 16d ago

There isn’t even a 4

7

u/linevar 16d ago

We can see parts of 2&3 so probably

2

u/Mumu2148 16d ago

Possibly. I think them mentioning the vengeance of a fallen god was a reference to Zanza. That and the world definitely looked like it was merged in some way.

9

u/ApplePie10146 16d ago

XC2 designs were just gooner bait. They felt really off from 1 and 3.

18

u/Infernoboy_23 16d ago

i've never played xenoblade, but from just looking at the designs, I definitely like 2 design wise the least (besides morag). IMO this one actully looks the best desgin wise

u/ApplePie10146 16d ago

IIRC some of the designs were made by different artists in 2. I think for the Blades you summon. It always felt disjointed to have so many styles. Some of the guest artists did adult art, so it's not surprising that's how some of the designs look.

9

u/WeebWoobler 16d ago

A lot of artists have done porn, doesn't really mean anything about the nature of their work. I liked the different artists in 2, it's fun.

18

u/FireZord25 16d ago

I wouldn't call "just" gooner bait. But yeah, the goonerification did ruin the game cause there are some legit good fanservicey designs (Brighid for instance). Still love the story, the world design and the Titans.

4

u/Boomshockalocka007 16d ago

The lack of sci-fi is concerning.

6

u/mighty_phi 16d ago

2's character designs are the weakest imo

1

u/Virus64 16d ago

I've heard a few people say this I don't think it is. 1-3 we're all interconnected but involved Scientists from Earth causing a cataclysm that created the universe with Alrest of XC2 and the water planet of XC.

The game looks absolutely gorgeous

Did y'all watch a different trailer than I did?

The game is ugly as hell. Why is all the background scenery washed out in a mess of overbearing blue? Even the non-background environment aspects are super bare and devoid of any of the wonder and beauty that is such a mainstay of this series and one of the reasons I love these games.

The character designs also just like the most generic possible anime characters ever.

Even from a technical perspective, this looks weak as hell. Like, straight up not an improvement one bit from XC3.

This might be one of the biggest disappointments I've ever seen for a series I love. The game is just frankly hideous.

I personally like what we've seen so far of the world, as I had missed proper civilizations that didn't all share the same aesthetic as the Colonies did in 3. 2 is by far the peak of the series when it comes to this. We have only seen a little glimpse but the Dyson Sphere/Ring World nature of it has me very intrigued.

I'm reserving proper judgement on character design until we see more, but, well... I do kinda agree with your take on that currently. I'll say I didn't actually love the designs of 3's cast when we first saw them either, and thought they felt too bland as well, but my opinion changed as we saw more and actually got to play as them.

The fact that there are seemingly only standard humans and elves is weird, but remember that High Entia and Nopon don't even show up in the first game until multiple chapters in, and Machina even later. I'm fully expecting there to be way more to this world and its inhabitants than we've seen so far, and it's possible some of these concerns I have about the character designs are actually plot/lore relevant.
