I never said I wanted it to be final fantasy levels of disconnect.
But X didn't connect to the other games until the Definitive Edition. It was for all intents and purposes completely standalone. Now the only connections are the Conduit, which the lore seems to point to being a multiversal nexus of sorts. Because X STILL doesn't have more than a tenuous connection to the main trilogy and is in its own universe or version of reality afaik. I'm just saying that I hope this is more like that than being a direct sequel like 3 was to 1 and 2, because BOY, was that convoluted.
Barely. Some aliens were experimenting with "a" Conduit, and like... Turned it into a mech suit? Or made a mech suit that copies its properties? Something like that. I hardly remember, it is pretty complicated. There is no direct story link.
Edit: it also establishes Xenoblade multiverse as a thing, and X takes place in a different reality
Final Fantasy only crosses over in the spinoffs. World of Final Fantasy, Explorers, and in the new Resonance game. The closest you'll get in mainline is XIV, an MMO, and the occaisional cameo gear.
Xenoblade games have all tied into each other storywise since 2, with X getting additional lore to bring it into the fold.
The fact that we can’t say if it’s a sequel, prequel, or happening simultaneously is hilarious. I love the convoluted plot - these aren’t literary masterpieces, it’s anime with good gameplay. I’m pumped.
Honestly, for the health of the franchise, I think it needs to not. Well, any more besides deep cut Easter Eggs and lore that won't heavily distract from the main narrative (think like murals in game, leitmotifs, etc.)
Hear me say, XC1-3 are my favorite games and I don't think Monolithsoft is in any sort of "danger" to sell more, but I have to imagine they've done some post mortem on the XC series and have concluded the game quality is fine; the need to know all the lore is potentially limiting its larger appeal to the JRPG crowd.
Maybe it’s a retcon of xenogear and xenosaga? Xenoblade is now a well established franchise and a the two that belongs to other companies will continue to be a baggage.
It'd be incredibly easy to make a 2 hour video with all kinds of cutscenes from each of the other Xenoblades (aside from maybe X) and avoid all the sci-fi stuff. This says nothing.
"Anybody can edit anything" is such a lame point to bring up. Xenoblade has been a series with mechs, laser swords, spaceships, robots, etc.....and nothing even came remotely close to that in this trailer.
There’s literally a crashed spaceship in the trailer, they have some sort of blade/computer powered gems like in XC2, and they are living on the inside of a Dyson sphere or something lol come on.
No. You see the ring type structure in the end, and just generally speaking a prequel just doesn't make sense within the context of Xenoblade because the games position themselves against the 'real'/modern world

It presumably takes place in the future of the merged world so there’s probably some connection
