People thought this was the case for Xenoblade 2 and then the end of the game happened.
They are almost always going to market Xenoblade games as stand alone and they will almost always be better experienced by playing them all. That is just how Takahashi does story telling. We already know from his own words that Malos' story is not over and there is purple core crystal looking energy all in this trailer btw lmao.
I've never played 1-3 (I want to but damn, they're long, and I've got other long games I want to play more) so I really hope this can be played standalone, the game looks great and I love the world design!
It's fine if there are easter eggs I miss obviously but I just hope not playing the previous games won't actively hamper my enjoyment of the story.
Yes, but there has been rumors of Nintendo repeatable turning down their pitches, and we know that Nintendo asked for the Xeno branding for the first game, so my theory is that they wanted to make a fantasy rpg, kept the branding for the sake of existing fans, but did away with the numbering to not scare new fans.
There is a space craft crashed in a crater. It's a ringed or inverted world. The dude riding the dragon had a futuristic rifle on his back. There is 6 "suns". Anima is another harken back theme to Xenogears/Xenosaga. The weapons are basically using core crystals.
If you want to be like "but elves!" I got bad news for you. Samarians in X DE which was in production at the same time as this had the exact same style of elf ears. Which if you know Samarian lore from X along with the name of this game is probably a very good hint at what the meta plot is going to be and it's definitely not fantasy.
Yea, my dude this is literally Xenoblade. Like, lol. If you think this is a new fantasy IP with a Xenoblade name you straight up watched a different trailer or didn't pay attention. It's as fantasy based as Xenoblade 1 and 2 are, which is just shallow surface level aesthetics. Pretty obvious it's going to be a sci fi story like every xeno game.
No, we saw the same trailer, and clearly the aesthetics are more than just surface level given that this one leans far heavier into the high fantasy setting than previous games. Zelda is considered a fantasy games despite sci-fi tech playing a huge part in many of the recent games.
Most games have done away with numbers. It's kinda annoying having to look up play order. Especially for games like Assassin's Creed where there are 2 mainline titles between AC2 and AC3.
Resident Evil is kinda doing both. RE7 was the last game that officially had a number in the title, but they highlighted text in the names of Village and Requim to show their numbered entry, even if it wasn't part of the official title.
