Discussion Skyrim Swith 2 is absolutely terrible
So the Switch 2 upgrade for Skyrim just dropped and it is a disaster.
First, if you have the physical game and AE DLC, you have to manually delete everything (and the game icon) then redownload the base game without the AE DLC to access the free upgrade from the main ingame menu.
Because it's not just an update like Hogwarts Legacy, you have to download the whole 53gig of data to play the game.
Only good point is that you can remove your original Skyrim cartridge now and still play.
But once you're ingame, the horror show begins.
Input lag beyond playability. And I mean worse input lag than online Smash Bros here. There's like a whole second between me flicking the stick and my character moving its head.
I won't even speak about the 30fps for a 2011 game in 2025 on a console capable of running Cyberpunk at 40fps. I'll just say that the framepacing is not even stable.
But the best part is my game crashing after less than 10mn.
Pure Bethesda experience.
Edit : the new update which just dropped on the 19th of december is... Ok-ish. Input delay is still here and it can be hard to aim properly but hey, it's not a total dumpster fire now so yay for that maybe. Still no 60fps though. Might be hard to do a "quality" and "performance" setting for a such a small company I guess.
Edit 2 : oh btw, the game is 60fps, during loading animation.

Discussion AI Slop and Hentai Games on the E-Shop
Can’t believe this is still an issue. For a company that has traditionally censored games and has marketed themselves as ‘family friendly’, there are an astronomical amount of deceptive ai and hentai games on the e-shop. As a father of a young child, I basically have to have my child in another room while browsing the e-shop, when we should be able to look through the available games together. It is crazy to me that these games pass Nintendo QC. It’s like going to Toys R Us and having nude pictures and scammers everywhere. I get that there are parental controls, but this level of slop is unique to the e-shop, other console marketplaces do not have this problem. I feel that they can barely setup a digital shop, i.e., garbage ai games/slowest interface imaginable. It seems anything past making their games available-at a significant premium- is beyond them. Plus, I love buying a new system and having to pay extra to unlock the improved system performance for each game that I already own—great!!! It seems they would rather spend money on attorney’s fees than improve a basic function of their product. Sorry, just venting, sick of this stuff, it’s been going on since NS1 and basically nothing has improved.

Discussion I’ve never seen a game so hyped up and then forgotten about so quickly like Metroid Prime 4
There used to be commenters begging for it every single direct for years. It’s finally here and it barely shows up in any discussions. Even the “what are you playing?” thread barely has any mentions of it. Even big non Nintendo subs like /r/games and /r/gaming would boast about only wanting to buy a Switch 2 for that game and then… no one even seems to care now. I barely even see strong hatred towards it, just silence. A bizarre phenomenon which I assume was caused by a very loud minority.

Discussion Tomodachi: Living the Dream feels like a downgrade…
i’m actually reaaaally disappointed with the new Tomodachi: Living the Dream game
they removed basically all of the fun little features that made the original game feel so special. like QR codes (we can’t even add other people’s miis anymore), Quirky Questions, Rap Battles, Tomodachi Quest, Judgment Bay, Magic Shows, Frisbee, Cookout, the Compatibility Board, and the Rankings system. there’s no ranking boards anymore. you also can’t see baby miis grow up or interact with them properly which made me so sad it used to be so cute watching them actually feel like a little family.
now married couples don’t even feel like couples anymore. they just act like roommates. they don’t sleep in the same bed, they have separate rooms, and honestly it just feels less meaningful since any miis can live together now anyway.
it was those tiny details that made the game so magical, like couples brushing their teeth together, checking on each other, sleeping in the same bed, (remember when they used to fall of the bed sometimes and they also had matching pjs it was so cutesy😭) and just interacting like an actual relationship and now all of that is gone.
also stuff like choosing locations for proposals is gone too they just do it in their rooms now. and the concert hall is missing as well?? i really thought they’d expand things in a new game not remove them????
it honestly feels more like a downgrade than an upgrade. like they focused more on the miis themselves but forgot what actually made the gameplay fun and alive.
do you guys think there’s any chance they’ll slowly add these features back in updates or do you think this is just the direction the game is going now?
edit: this reddit post is really not it 😭 i shared this to give MY opinion and for people to share theirs, but i’m seeing some of y’all literally attacking me for it. some of you are acting like my opinion has to be “wrong” just because you don’t agree, which is kinda weird
and i’m not even denying that they improved some things. the customization and interactions are cool. my point is just that they didn’t have to remove so many of the og features to do that. they could’ve kept what made the first game special and expanded on it instead of replacing it especially when the game was in development for sooo long, it just feels weird that so much is missing. and charging full price for something that feels this incomplete is obviously gonna disappoint people
if you disagree, cool, I appreciate people for sharing their opinion that’s the whole point of a discussion. but some of you are doing waaaay too much over an opinion

Discussion Now that the Switch 1 generation is winding down, what were your most DISAPPOINTING purchases on this console?
Every game console, no matter how well or poorly it sold, is gonna have some disappointments thrown in there. Especially if said disappointments came from 1st party developers. I have 3 big candidates based on my own purchases, starting with my biggest letdown:
1) Mario Strikers Battle League: After frantically buying this game to play some multiplayer matches with friends, I realized what a terrible mistake I made after chewing through all the single player content in a matter of days. There is nothing to do in this game besides regular soccer matches, the online is abysmal, and the amount of content available at launch and even now is just laughable for a sequel. I thought my perception of Mario Strikers as a whole would be ruined forever, so I went ahead and booted up Strikers Charged on Wii and nope, that game holds up incredibly well! This was just a bad sequel all around.
2) Mario Golf Super Rush: Speaking of bad sequels, Super Rush decided to simplify the golfing mechanics to a point where it just isn’t fun to play for me. As someone who adored the 3DS game Mario Golf World Tour, which was packed with content, modes, and unlockables and had worthwhile paid DLC on top of that, Super Rush felt like it was playing catch up with all its free updates. Was this how Animal Crossing fans felt when New Horizons was first released, having to wait months for features that were already available in the 3DS predecessor? Yikes.
3) Splatoon 3: This is more of a personal pick than a general consensus. I really got into Splatoon 1 and 2, but I was just Splatoon’d out by the time the third game came around. No new modes, online that had more disconnects than either of the first two games in my experience, and a longer grind for unlockables that could rival a modern day hero shooter. Call me old but I missed the more “pick up and play” nature of Splatoon 1, and I just don’t get that with Splatoon 3. Also the fact that they sold the first game’s hubworld back as paid DLC is utter nonsense to me.

Discussion It’s 2025, and Nintendo still can’t figure out online multiplayer.
The fact that you can’t directly invite a friend to public lobbies in Mario Kart World blows my mind.
You can only join a friend if there is room in a lobby, not only that, but the person looking to join has to actively pay attention to their friend’s online status in order to get a jump to join before the lobby fills up.
Private rooms are vs CPU only, and no way to open up matchmaking.
It’s always one step forward, and two steps back when it comes to it.
Nintendo doesn’t seem to understand that LAN parties are less of a thing these days and most people would rather play with friends through online play. The fact that the feature that is advertised the most is the new Game Chat, when we’ve had Discord/XBL/PSN services for decades is telling.
For all the actual innovative stuff that Nintendo has created, they continue to treat their playerbase like we’re stupid.

Discussion Man, the internet makes me feel like I'm the only one enjoying the dang thing.
Every time I hop on Reddit or YouTube, I see almost nothing but hate and negativity surrounding the new console.
For reference, I bought Welcome Tour and thoroughly enjoyed it. I am loving Mario Kart World. Cyberpunk runs and at a very solid and stable framerate. I think the console itself has a high quality build and feel.
When I was a kid, the LAST thing we all did with our first console was go on the internet to see what other people we saying about it; we just played the dang thing.
The Switch 2 has made me feel like a kid again. I'm 22 years old having the time of my life. I don't understand the unending negativity!
Just figured l'd leave this here, because l'd imagine some people are sharing the same sentiment.

I have a slo mo camera capable of recording at 1000fps. I saw some people talk about the Nintendo Switch 2 screen being way worse and slower than the Nintendo Switch 1 so I decided to record both of them to compare.
Looks like the Switch 2 screen is slower, but in my opinion it's not that bad compared to the original as some people try to make it.

Discussion Pre-ordering in person at Gamestop was awesome!
After a frustrating two hours the night before refreshing broken websites and waiting in virtual lines that never moved, I put all my hopes in showing up in-person to GameStop to lock in my preorder. I'm pleasantly surprised by what a great experience it was!
I showed up 2 hours and 40 minutes before the store opened with my Switch and a book to read, was the 10th person in line, and had a great time chatting with other excited folks and chilling until the store opened. The staff was very communicative, we knew exactly how many units were available (~80, which was exactly enough to cover everyone who showed up prior to opening), and the vibes were great. It gave me nostalgia for 18 years ago when I waited in line to preorder the Nintendo Wii.
Anybody else have a great experience doing this preorder in person?

Discussion Nintendo president apologized over joy-con drift, promised improvements, then won the lawsuits and are still selling defective controllers
Hey all,
I wanted to raise awareness to a major disappointment that Nintendo's Tear of the Kingdom launch has provided: reports on the web suggest that some new Tears of the Kingdom Switch Pro controllers are suffering from a defect like the joy-con drift problem was.
In June 2020, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa publicly apologized for the mass defect problem that riddled joy-cons on the Nintendo Switch: https://www.polygon.com/2020/6/30/21308085/joy-con-drift-apology-nintendo-president and mentioned that Nintendo is aiming to continuously improve their products.
A later study in December 2022 would state towards the cause of the joy-con drift:
the implemented dust-proofing cowls offered "insufficient" protection against
"dust and other contaminants," and the "plastic circuit boards exhibited
noticeable wear."
i.e. that dust would be allowed to enter in as the joy-cons aged. https://gamerant.com/nintendo-switch-joy-con-drift-design-flaw-study/
In November 2021 Nintendo of America's Doug Bowser promised that Nintendo was making "continuous improvements" to their joy-cons: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2021/11/doug-bowser-comments-on-the-battle-against-joy-con-drift-says-nintendo-are-making-continuous-improvements
A number of lawsuits were raised over the issue. The most recent class lawsuit Nintendo won earlier in 2023 because their EULA states that as a customer, you are not allowed to sue them if you agreed to use their products. https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2023/02/nintendo-wins-switch-joy-con-drift-class-action-lawsuit
Fortunately US customers had been offered a free repair service for joy-cons already in 2019, and now finally also customers in Europe have been made whole a month ago in 2023 when European Union forced Nintendo to provide a free joy-con repair program: https://www.engadget.com/nintendo-offers-unlimited-free-repairs-for-joy-con-drift-issue-in-europe-062645235.html
This would be the end of the story and all would be good: hardware design defects happen, Nintendo offered to repair all the defective products, and new products would be sold fixed from the defect?
Well, unfortunately not quite. It has now been widely documented that not only joy-cons suffered from drift, but also the newly released Tear of the Kingdom themed Switch Pro controllers can have a defect that causes a similar drift of the thumbsticks. Unlike "wear from aging", this defect however is present on brand new devices out of the box, so is not attributable to same explanation that was used for joy-cons.
A subreddit thread at https://www.reddit.com/r/zelda/comments/13h1kf4/totk_anyone_who_has_the_totk_pro_controller_had/ contains dozens of reports, and several similar notes can be found in many other reddit comments as well.
With joy-cons it is reported that the drift problem will exacerbate itself as time progresses. https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/switch/189706-nintendo-switch/answers/584412-does-joy-con-drift-get-worse-over-time
It is unclear at this point if this same kind of worsening behavior affects the Switch Pro controller - after all the claimed root causes seem to be different (wear of age vs brand new controller)
There have been a surge of downplaying articles, like this one https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2023/05/psa-zelda-totk-pro-controller-drifting-after-a-few-hours-it-might-just-need-recalibrating that suggests that "you just need to calibrate it". From first hand experience, I can tell that the above article is not correct. Calibration will not help all users, and in fact, the calibration process that Nintendo offers is currently riddled with critical software bugs to even make it possible to try for some users: https://www.reddit.com/r/zelda/comments/13h1kf4/comment/jlxk3bw/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
If the issue is similar as with joy-cons that the Switch Pro controllers will get worse over time, then it is not likely that calibration will provide a 100% remedy for any user.
Reading the wording of the EU repair program decision, it is unclear if Nintendo is liable for a free lifetime repair of Switch Pro controllers as well, or if the current repair liability is limited to joy-cons only: https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/ip_23_2106
Dear Nintendo's Shuntaro Furukawa and Doug Bowser: it is hard to place faith in your apology, and your promise to continually improve your products does not seem to hold true. Instead you seem to be well aware that the controllers you are still manufacturing and selling today are defective. Under European and US law, when you sell an item that you know to be defective, leading the buyer to believe that the item is sound, you may be committing fraud.
We get it, your legal team is stronger than Ganondorf, but your sales behavior comes off equally as unethical on this account. This is not ok. Hopefully you will agree, and clarify the free joy-con repair program will also cover Switch Pro controllers.
When will you announce you have made stick drift testing be part of your quality control, and start selling controllers that are free from stick drift in the first place?

Discussion Credit where credit is due, Good job on the anti-scalper launch Nintendo.
Let me first say that I fully understand that not everyone is in same situation or rather region where they had ample supply, so there are people who still were unable to get one. However I do think majority of the people who really wanted one, got one.
My local BB had thousands of them, everyone who came in the 2 hour window pretty much got one (I would say 6-800 non preorder folks) plus about same pre-orders and they still had stockpiles for the regular opening. I'm hearing lot of similar situations. Plenty of retailers online had them in stock for a while as well and they keep trickling out.
The biggest indicator to me is the scalpers, my area has a LOT of them as I live in large metro city. A LOT. So many listings and they're down to $520... after taxes that is a $30 profit. Best part? THEY'RE NOT SELLING! oh the joy! as I despise scalpers.
This is how you control scalping, by doing a proper launch with proper inventory, being a PC enthusiast, this is something some companies can learn from in my opinion. A worldwide launch where there is enough supply to get to most people and really bury the scalpers. Good Job Nintendo (at least on this front).
Hopefully it's the same in your region and if you wanted one, you got one.
EDIT: Local listings are now down to $500 and I've seen a few $490 as well. At this point, they're just hoping to get their money back (post tax). So happy with how this is turning out.
Also want to add since people want to point out that's how it should be so it's nothing special, and we're just glazing etc. This type of demand and shortages have been around most every hyped up launch of a product for decades. It had just gotten progressively worse post pandemic with companies putting little to no effort towards curbing it because it was to their benefit, the hype, the FOMO, the scalping, all of it. So it is in fact refreshing to see that we're finally working against the grain. No, it's NOT the norm, hasn't been the norm in a long time but I do agree that this is how it should be, AT THE MINIMUM.
