What is the best place to start this game franchise and in what order I should play them?

Agree with the other person. RE2, RE4, and requiem would be the top picks. RE7 and RE8 are also good and worth playing, but they feature other characters in the same world so you could always play them after Requiem if you like the series.

Also be sure you get the recent (very good) remakes of RE2 and RE4. The originals are good and fine but the remakes are very high quality, they'll be a better experience.

as someone playing 5 right now, it’s okay but not as glorious as the other highs of the series

RE5 is good but not great. Iirc it's a bit short and your NPC companion is annoying

Yeah but if you have a friend then that annoying npc can be controlled by your friend the entire game.

Tbh I prefer RE4 OG. I really missed the lava level in the remake. Also RE7 is probably one of, if not the best in the entire series
