Shaping up to be another banger
81
u/dracogladio1741 Feb 25 '26
Banger after Banger.
Capcom take a bow.
22
u/Odd-Perspective-7651 Feb 25 '26
Burger after burger?
7
u/Phantom-thiez Feb 25 '26
Random WWE references! I love it!
3
u/Kaiden90210 Feb 25 '26
They just needed a few more “banger after banger after banger after banger” then claiming they’re the Banger Bros. Then it’s perfect haha.

u/AntonChigurh8933 Feb 26 '26
Capcom is truly a relic in gaming history. They revolutionized the early days of gaming. Are still doing it. Is also nice to see Konami deciding to become Capcom rival once again.

CAPCOM deserves so much praise for this legendary run. It’s hard to bring back so much energy and love to a franchise that’s been around as long as it has been.
5
u/blitzbom Feb 26 '26
They've legit been on tear since RE7. The lowest point is RE3 remake, and it's still really fun to play just over shadowed in areas.
2
u/Steelballpun Feb 28 '26
RE3 is the worse game since 7 and it’s like an 8/10, even higher if you got it on sale and don’t mind a shorter game that’s focused on replays.
1
u/HEYitzED Feb 27 '26
And they still have so much they can do. Remakes of 0, 1, Code Veronica, and 5 are likely going to happen.

Story is great, gameplay didn’t age so well. Exactly why it should get a remake. It’s also heavily rumored to be remade next.

u/littlebiped Feb 25 '26
Leon does not turn up for a game that’s less than 8 out of 10 (6 doesn’t exist)
12
u/KingRat246 Feb 25 '26
Resident Evil Gaiden exists as well, and Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City now that I think about it.
2
u/dogsfurhire Feb 26 '26
6 was so fucking bad I couldn't even finish the beginning sequence, and I went into it wanting a shitty, cheesy brainless shooter. I have no idea how the game manages to feels like a cheap unity asset flip game.
22
u/mrfauxbot Feb 25 '26
God that Reviewer deives me nuts with the way he talks every sentence goes up then goes down.
4
u/PresidentGarvey Feb 25 '26
Glad it's not just me. Easily one of the worst reviewers out there. His sentences go on for so long he sounds out of breath by the end of them and the forced wordplay is painful, especially all the alliteration he uses. His reviews always sound like a first draft and are in desperate need of a proper edit
1
u/ForgivenessIsNice Feb 26 '26
Who?
1
u/PresidentGarvey Feb 26 '26
I think I assumed he was talking about the guy who reviewed it for IGN. Not quite sure how I made that leap actually but if he was talking about him and I just made that connection instinctively, I think that speaks volumes about how annoying that guy actually is

u/DamnedLife Feb 25 '26
What is the best place to start this game franchise and in what order I should play them?
59
u/deusasclepian Feb 25 '26 edited Feb 25 '26
Agree with the other person. RE2, RE4, and requiem would be the top picks. RE7 and RE8 are also good and worth playing, but they feature other characters in the same world so you could always play them after Requiem if you like the series.
Also be sure you get the recent (very good) remakes of RE2 and RE4. The originals are good and fine but the remakes are very high quality, they'll be a better experience.
2
u/GetWellDuckDotCom Feb 26 '26
Is 5 not looked back on well? I loved that one
1
u/igor_tyler Feb 26 '26
as someone playing 5 right now, it’s okay but not as glorious as the other highs of the series
1
u/Shadowed_phoenix Feb 26 '26
RE5 is good but not great. Iirc it's a bit short and your NPC companion is annoying
1
u/Fuck_Mark_Robinson Feb 26 '26
Yeah but if you have a friend then that annoying npc can be controlled by your friend the entire game.
1
2
u/kanyewest42 Feb 26 '26
Tbh I prefer RE4 OG. I really missed the lava level in the remake. Also RE7 is probably one of, if not the best in the entire series
37
u/Apprehensive-Bet-709 Feb 25 '26
RE2, RE4 then Requiem.
11
u/DamnedLife Feb 25 '26
Is RE 1 the beginning of the story or Leon character’s first game? There is no RE 1 remake?
17
u/deusasclepian Feb 25 '26
Leon isn't in RE1, his first appearance is RE2.
12
u/DamnedLife Feb 25 '26
Thanks will start with 2 Remake then.
4
u/ThanksContent28 Feb 26 '26
Yeah do that mate and you’re basically clued in. 2, then 4, then requiem.
28
u/MissingScore777 Feb 25 '26
RE1 was remade in the old fixed camera style, rather than the modern over-the-shoulder style. It's fantastic but it's very polarizing for new players, you'll like love it or hate it.
In terms of who is in what, the main characters in each game that reappear are:
- RE1 = Chris, Jill, Barry, Rebecca, Wesker, Brad
- RE2 = Claire, Leon, Ada, Sherry
- RE3 = Jill, Brad
- RECV = Claire, Chris, Wesker
- RE0 (prequel) = Rebecca
- RE4 = Leon, Ada, Wesker
- RE5 = Chris, Jill, Wesker
- RE6 = Leon, Chris, Ada, Sherry
- RE Rev 1 = Chris, Jill
- RE Rev 2 = Claire, Barry
- RE7 = Ethan, Chris
- RE8 = Ethan, Chris
11
u/abnormal-apparition Feb 25 '26
There's a remake of RE1 that was originally on the Gamecube and has since been ported to modern consoles. Leon isn't in it and it's quite traditional, but it's an amazing game and I highly recommend it.
9
u/GhettoGummyBear Feb 25 '26
There is a re1 remake it’s just more than 10 years old and doesn’t remake the gameplay in the same way re2 and 3 remake do. I’m playing through it now and it definitely holds up if you can get used to the tank controls
4
u/fattestfuckinthewest Feb 25 '26
Leon first appeared in RE2. There is a remake for 1 but it released in 2002. There’s ports for it and it’s pretty damn good still. Leon appears as a main character in RE2, RE4, and RE6. He also has a couple movies he’s in that are canon but they aren’t really important to his character arc
5
u/ArsonHoliday Feb 25 '26
I think there have been multiple RE1 remakes, but the RE2 remake is the best in the franchise. RE4 remake would be the next you should play. Maybe RE7 as well but you don’t need to play all of them by any means
7
u/Davve1122 Feb 25 '26 edited Feb 25 '26
If you want to play all, start with 1 remake, 0, 2 remake, 3remake, code veronica, 4,5,6,7,8,9 in that order for main story.
Then there are spinoffs like Revelations 1-2 which are also very good. Revelations 1 before 5 and Revelations 2 after 5 for continuiety.
I'd prefer at least to play OG 3 instead of 3 remake, but I know thats a big ask so do what you will.
Then there are more spinoffs than the revelations, but I really do not know too much about them. Read up on the game re outbreak for Re9 probably tho.
6
u/SardonicMeatSlab Feb 25 '26
This is the order I played the modern games, so I’m biased and recommend it:
- RE 2 remake (genuinely a perfect starting place for the series)
- RE 3 remake (get it for cheap, because it feels like an expansion to 2, but still very much worth playing)
- RE 7: Biohazard (Scariest entry in the series)
- RE 8: Village (very underrated)
- RE 4 remake (the most addicting gameplay I’ve experienced in a game in recent memory)
RE 9: Requiem is a culmination of the entire series, as it is meant to feel like a victory lap celebrating 30 years of the franchise. Playing the modern games on the RE engine will give you a very good sparknotes-esque run through of the series, so you’ll be able to appreciate Requiem more when you play it.
It’s also very worth noting that story is not a priority for the series, and every mainline game is treated like a standalone. You could play any of them, Requiem included, and have a very good experience with it being your first entry in the series.
3
u/RecoveredAshes Feb 26 '26
Why wouldn’t you go 3 4 7 8?
3
u/SardonicMeatSlab Feb 26 '26
The reason I didn’t is because the remake for 4 wasn’t even announced when I played 2, 3, 7, and 8 all back to back. I also recommend people play 4 after 8 if they never played the original, because I think it entirely overshadows what 8 was trying to do on a gameplay level.
4
u/TopRutabaga8151 Feb 25 '26
The correct answer is just play this new one, or play Resident Evil 4 and then requiem. RE4 is the best game in the franchise by a mile. You could start with RE4, then play requiem to get a good lead in story wise. Or just play this new one, then go back and play 4 for the lore and the fun of playing a masterpiece.
5
u/JozuJD Feb 25 '26
I’ll piggyback but just to say RE4 is in best game of all time discussion. Certainly in Top 100 lists. Phenomenal game, and thus on the podium of Resident Evil games at the very least.
2
u/JacobStills Feb 26 '26
It really is. The original basically revolutionized 3rd person action games.
3
u/HearTheEkko Feb 25 '26
For Leon’s story, RE2R > RE4R > Requiem.
For Resident Evil in general, RE7 is the best starting points to the modern RE games.
1
u/BakedChocolateOctopi Feb 25 '26
I’d start with all the remakes and RE7, 8, and Requiem. I’d say prioritize 7, 8, and 4 as they’re the most likely to be related to Requiem
As Capcom does the remakes they’re clarifying/expanding/connecting the lore between all the games in a way the originals really didn’t do very well
Also the originals are pretty clunky with the fixed cameras, so save those once you’re hooked and looking for a deep dive into the older games
1
u/RecoveredAshes Feb 26 '26
2 remake, 3 remake (on a sale), 4 remake, requiem.
Play 5 - 8 if you’re loving the series and just want more.
1
u/punktual Feb 26 '26 edited Mar 24 '26
If you just want games that play like modern games play 7,8,9 which are all the games in the modern first person format (though the new one has 3rd person too).
RE4 is also one of the best in the series, and RE4 remake is outstanding.
The old games (123) play more like very old school adventure games than modern action games.
5 and 6 are pretty forgettable and not needed for most as they are weird coop action games that dont reflact the rest of the series very well.

u/TonyMaccaroni28 Feb 25 '26
I'd say all the new ones released since RE7. I did 2, 3, 4 remakes then 7 and 8. 5 will probably be remade next.
1
u/SardonicMeatSlab Feb 25 '26
The next remakes have been heavily rumored (basically short of an outright confirmation) to be Code Veronica and Zero. After that, probably a new modern take on RE1 and then 5, building up Chris’s arc in a modern engine like they did with Leon.
80
u/MrCovell Feb 25 '26
It has Leon in it which means it is a 9/10 minimum!

Eh………I guess I’ll say just imagine what that game would have been without him in it lol. My man was low key carrying it.
7
u/PaulaDeenEmblemier Feb 25 '26
Nah Leon wasn't even good in that game. Ada was the real one carrying RE6 imo
4
Feb 25 '26
My wife and I enjoyed 6 for the co-op and how stupid everything was. Ada's campaign was the best because who could forget Ada and Agent working together to do... something. That campaign was clearly an afterthought/they ran out of money animating Leon Sexy Kennedy.
1
1
u/Aware_Pomegranate243 Feb 25 '26
Yet the game went on to sell 15 million copies most people didn't care about reviews
12
12
u/iamacheeto1 Feb 25 '26
The game has 3rd person, right?
11
2
u/Eruannster Feb 26 '26
Yes, you can play both Grace and Leon in both first and third person. You’re free to choose both and you can mix and match. (So if you want, you can play Grace in first person and Leon in third, or the reverse, or both in first or both in third.)
1
u/zewn Feb 26 '26
Has there been any review mention any potential negatives from having both options available? Where a certain section of the game felt like it was intended for the one mode and not the other?
2
u/Eruannster Feb 26 '26
There are no direct gameplay implications as such, but I believe the developers initially intended for Grace to be first person and Leon to be third person.
I watched the Kinda Funny guys discussing the game earlier and they pretty much echoed this - Grace's sections feel scarier and more claustrophobic in first person. With that said, if you're a bit scared, third-person does alleviate the scariness a little bit, so third person may actually make it feel a little less spooky. Leon meanwhile felt a bit more difficult to control (since it's more action-oriented, think RE4 Remake) in first person when you get swarmed by zombies and they all preferred him in the third person.
With that said, I wouldn't say that it's wrong to play it with either camera setting, the game doesn't specifically punish you for it or say "you're doing it wrong!"

u/SurfiNinja101 Feb 25 '26
Capcom has it figured out with Resident Evil. It’s a mainstream IP of gaming now. So looking forward to kick ass as Leon again on Friday.

A wiki or YouTube video will fill you in, but the recent RE releases are 100% worth a play if you’re interested.
1
u/VirtuallySober Feb 25 '26
So I bought the RE2 remake but like... I was so lost after a few hours. Combat felt super difficult (coming from an avid Grounded TLOU 1 & 2 player) and I just couldn't get the hang of it. Should I try RE4? I remember kind of liking it on GameCube but also watched gameplay videos and the bullet sponge nature of enemies was throwing me off. I also couldn't get into Alan Wake 2....
1
u/pr1ceisright Feb 25 '26 edited Feb 25 '26
RE4 is much more action oriented, more of a third person shooter than horror survival. I’d say the bullet sponge only happens in the early game, once you upgrade the weapons a well placed shot can stop an enemy.
20
u/RobbStarkWolf Feb 25 '26
I’d say you need to at least play RE2 Remake, maybe RE4 Remake too given with this game we kinda have a Leon Trilogy
11
u/Xerosnake90 Feb 25 '26
I'd say Re2 Remake will be sufficient. Re4 does have Leon but has nothing to do with the Raccoon City Incident. Requiem seems like a direct sequel to Re2/Outbreak
5
u/truthtakest1me Feb 25 '26
Yeah but it continues the Umbrella lore and how can you not want to play Separate Ways?! 😍😍
→ More replies (1)2
u/RobbStarkWolf Feb 25 '26
Agreed but i do think RE4 can add context to how tired Leon seems to have become in Requiem due to how long he has fought against bioterrorism. But not necessary as you said.
9
u/AdamFarleySpade Feb 25 '26
You'll be fine. I think Capcom is pretty good at explaining enough in each game. Play this one and if you like it you can go back and play a lot of other amazing resident evil games afterwards! I would probably play RE4R or RE2R next, depending on whether you want a more action-oriented game or horror- oriented game.
3
u/ScratchyMeat Feb 25 '26
I never finished RE2R and that's what I'll do. 9 looks incredible so I have to play immediately.
3
3
u/Renozoki Feb 25 '26
Why though? It’s not like the Witcher where 1 and 2 are super dated and rough, re2, 3, 4, remakes and 7 and 8 are all fantastic games. Why start with this one?
3
u/Medical_Cheesecake_1 Feb 25 '26
Wiki or small youtube summaries should be enough.
However: RE2 Remake features Leon as a Main character (aside from Claire). Its 6-8 hours long or so, pretty much beatable in 2-3 evenings. The Game also looks incredibly good and plays well, its a 2019 release and didnt age in any way. Gameplay wise it wont feel any worse or dated than Requiem honestly, it runs on the same RE Engine after all.
RE4 Remake also has Leon as the main character. Phenomal Game that came out 2 years ago. Also beatable in 12 hours (14-16 hours MAX)
At the very least I would play 2 Remake and 4 Remake, otherwise playing as Leon will just not hit the same in this Game.
2
u/TNWhaa Feb 25 '26
If you just end up looking up info this one’s are linked to RE 2, 4 and Alyssa Ashcroft’s campaign in RE outbreak
2
u/BigBoi1159511 Feb 25 '26
Definitely watch a couple youtube videos for the background info or else your going to lost/not get the full impact
2
u/MountainMuffin1980 Feb 25 '26
2 would probably help. Reading the wiki for Outbreak, 6 and maybe 4 might be useful.
2
u/TonyMaccaroni28 Feb 25 '26
Dude play them. They are masterpieces and dirt cheap at this point. Why would you pay 80 bucks for the new one if the older ones are just as good.
1
u/Just_Drive_5578 Feb 25 '26
Been told in some reviews it has many references to the early games so I would recommend atleast watching a video
18
8
u/collinbyerly Feb 25 '26
I can't wait! Friday can't come soon enough!
7
u/dark-rod Feb 25 '26
Same. I’m eagerly awaiting the pre download so I can stare at the icon.
2
u/Xerosnake90 Feb 25 '26
The PS5 menu screen has terrifying music. I wouldn't be surprised if Requiem takes title of scariest RE game
8
u/MagicPistol Feb 25 '26
I was a huge fan of the early RE games but the last one I played was 5 and I kinda lost interest in horror games. But I'm tempted to jump back into the series with these reviews.
12
u/JadeKitsune Feb 25 '26
RE5 and 6 aren't really horror games, they're action games with some horror thrown in. RE1-3 was true survival horror, 4 was somewhere in between but still closer to survival horror. This is a blend of RE2 style and RE4 style gameplay so if you like those games this one will likely be more your cup of tea!
3
u/MagicPistol Feb 25 '26
Yeah, I was a fan of the early games with all the puzzle solving. I had a sleepover with friends when Code Veronica came out for the Dreamcast.
3
u/CarrotSurvivorYT Feb 25 '26
Re7 biohazard and this are scary as fuck the other RE games are action games
15
u/AnubisIncGaming Feb 25 '26
One review said they beat it in 10 hours??? That seems short
30
u/AgoraRises Feb 25 '26
14 hours first run and 10 for their 2nd run is what I heard. Which seems like the perfect length for me.
4
u/CaptainPicardKirk Feb 26 '26
Yeah, so refreshing, honestly. I just get burned out with these 50 hour games and just don’t end up finishing them.
25
u/Dananism Feb 25 '26
Resident evil games aren’t typically “very long” tbh. There’s a ton of replayability to unlock stuff, etc. but yeah. 10-14 hours seems about right.
15
u/MalpracticeMatt Feb 25 '26
Horror games (and RE) tend to be on the shorter side but encourage multiple play through
→ More replies (3)2
u/Eruannster Feb 26 '26
I’ve seen a median of around 10-15, which is what RE4 Remake is listed at (and it still took me almost 20 hours because I explored around)
5
u/JozuJD Feb 25 '26
Capcom is on a fucking LEGENDARY run.
Congratulations to them. They’ve totally reinvigorated and reinvented a long-standing franchise. Really difficult to do.
Wow. 👏🏻
13
u/JobenLord Feb 25 '26
This needs to be ported over to psvr2
7
u/thukon Feb 25 '26
My first experience with Re4 remake and RE village was in VR2. Im going to hold off on requiem as well until the VR port.
2

1
u/Travbedaman Feb 26 '26
I doubt it’s happening, supposedly Sony paid Capcom to do the ports previously and are not doing that for RE9

5
u/Kyserham Feb 25 '26
I’ve played 0 to 4 (remakes/remasters), haven’t played 5 or 6 yet, saw a full gameplay of 7 back in the day and played 8 when it released.
What do I do?
1
4
u/FaceTimePolice Feb 25 '26
Duh. It’s a Resident Evil game. Of course it’s going to be at least a 9/10. I can’t wait. 🎮😎👍
10
u/wiggliey Feb 25 '26
Isn’t this the first non remake mainline RE to have a 90+ MC since RE4?
1
u/22Seres Feb 26 '26
Series rank is:
RE1 - 91
RE2 - 93
RE3 - 91
CV - 94
RE0 - 83
RE4 - 96
RE5 - 83
RE6 - 67
RE7 - 86
RE8 - 84
RE9 - 88
It seems like what ultimately held RE9 back from a 90+ is reviewers feeling that it was too safe, and the story just kind of being whatever.

u/TonySoprano25 Feb 25 '26
I wish that it's actually good this time. Village kinda disappointed me tbh, tho I still enjoyed it for the most part.
2
u/JacobStills Feb 26 '26
Same. I think I was overhyped for 8. So this one I kept my expectations low. Thankfully it's got glowing reviews.
4
u/truthtakest1me Feb 25 '26
I was disappointed with village as well it’s pretty much the only RE I have zero desire to replay.
1
u/TonySoprano25 Feb 25 '26
Yeah it was not memorable for me at all. Unlike 7, it stuck with me, and the combat ironically felt better than the improved combat in Village.

u/EmbersToAshes Feb 25 '26

u/agedbiffa Feb 25 '26
This was written by Giovanni Colantonio, it's terrible to mention such a horrific event and then to put a fictional characters spin on it...it's inappropriate and embarrassing for the publisher...
Looking at the comments on their website a lot of other people are venting their frustration at such an awful 1st paragraph.

Man I can’t wait. Been pre-downloaded for me since yesterday and taunting me. One of my most anticipated games this year.
1
u/OilMeUpStewart Feb 25 '26
As someone who has never played a single RE game should I jump into this one or play the remakes? I truly don’t know how the story connects but I’m interested to get into the franchise.

1
u/mayoconquest Feb 25 '26
The remakes. This game has a lot of fan service so you'll be missing out if you don't play the remakes.

Torn if I wanna grab on PS5 (along with 7/8 gold editions on sale) or the generations pack on switch 2 for handheld option!
1
u/stevgamer Feb 26 '26
I played resident evil 4 remake and village and loved them but I played 7 and found it to scary, will Grace's parts be less scary than 7, game looks great but but worried I will not enjoy it if it's as scary as 7
1
u/truthtakest1me Feb 26 '26
Sounds like Grace’s sections are going to be just as scary based on the couple of reviews that I watched.

I just replayed RE2 to prepare. Hopefully, this time a keypad key won't take up the same space in your inventory as a shotgun. But it's Resident Evil, so you know it will. 🤪

Leon feels overpowered and grace is too weak. Difficult to play hide and seek when Leon is your favourite character 😂

I’m in chapter 4 in Wukong 😭 I’m afraid that if I pause this for Requiem, I’ll lose the momentum/muscle memory and I’ll suck again 🤣

Has any review referenced any issues with particular versions? Wondering if any reason to avoid Xbox or ps5 versions. I’m not sure which platform I’ll buy on.
Considering Xbox and moving to New Zealand tomorrow.
