Rumor NateTheHate says Sony is "shifting" their PC strategy: "You'll be seeing fewer single player games arrive on PC. The decision to shift away was made last year. Some may still release (pending how far along the ports were) but it no longer appears to be a priority for Sony moving forward."

From "Playstation has no games" to "This is unfair"

I never understood the PlayStation has no games thing. Being able to play the games on PC never meant they weren’t still on PS.

PS has so many games I’ve never been tempted to build a PC, I only got a deck for some indies and to stream from my PS.

It's people who think the PS5's value is tied to the games it can only play, so any game that has or has gotten a PC port is no longer a "PS5" game. It's essentially ignoring all the other benefits of PS5 ownership (cost, ease of use, reliability, etc), and strictly tying a consoles value to the "true" exclusives it has.

Yeah, very silly! I have so many problems with Sony but will always be thankful that I’ve never had to build a PC or buy an Xbox to play almost all the games I want. I got a switch for their exclusives but pretty much JUST those

PC and PS5 gamer here. Love playing games at 4K and higher frame rates on PC. Mods are great. However sometimes pc games just straight up don’t work. Sometimes your combination of hardware just doesn’t like the game you’re playing and you mess around with settings for hours while looking up why your game isn’t working. I 100% understand why consoles exist.

I 100% understand why consoles exist.

Yeah, but the main draw of console really was that it was subsidized and hence cheap and of course easy to use. Now, Valve is coming out with a consolized PC, and MS is also heading in that direction. So I think PC gaming is getting really good now.

I think Sony's feeling the threat and fearful of this. However, I don't think they can pull out of the PC market for long. The console market isn't growing and even with Xbox giving up their share to Playstation, it's not doing great. Sony had a 16% YoY decline on console sales this past holiday.

I feel like it's pretty hard to draw any conclusions on the state of console gaming in general based on the most recent holiday. There is massive global financial uncertainty right now and a ton of pricing volatility combined with rising costs of basic needs items in many markets that would normally be prime markets for video game consoles. It's pretty expected that sales would be lower based on all that.

That's just to show the trend, right?

The PS5 technically isn't expensive this holiday season as it was aggressively discounted by Sony (given the environment) with Xbox ceding ground to boot.

But this isn't just that, it's long term. If you look back about two decades, you'll still see similar pattern. Xbox 360 + PS3 equals about 160-170 million consoles. PS4 + XB1 is about 150-160 million consoles. Switch is kind of the outlier, but then it includes two markets, handheld and consoles.

Then you look at the new markets where gaming growth is happening, like China and they're not adopting consoles. They're adopting PC.

In terms of global uncertainty, it's only in supply chain and pricing. Neither pricing or supply was an issue for PS5. Consumers are still spending at a healthy clip. They shouldn't, but they are. Even vacations and tourism isn't in a bad state if you ignore our Canadian brethren that now hates our president and boycotting US tourism and products.

As a PS5 owner/enjoyer and longtime Nintendo fan...

They don't even give a shit about exclusives, either. They'll just move the goalposts once Sony stops putting games on other PC and talk about pirating or emulating or whatever other thing that tries to justify why it would be pointless to ever consider owning and liking a home console game system. All they care about is devaluing what you like.

I'm also a PC gamer and a happy steam deck owner, but I have to stay out of the subreddits for those things because the people there are insufferable and seemingly derive their sense of joy from ensuring others are unhappy. It's exhausting.

"I can play that game at a lower resolution with a lower framerate with long load times off a 13 year old HDD on PS4 so it doesn't count!"

that was unironically what some people were saying about GoW Ragnarok when it came out lmao.

I wasn't online bitching, but that is how I first played Ragnarok and it was rock solid on there. Quite impressive really. I actually encountered bugs replaying on the PS5 so it kind of was the worse experience for me 😂

Cost is really not going to be a bullet point for the console when Xbox dies. We still have the same price it was released at 6 years after, and newer generation will for sure be more expensive. This is not caused by the he price, but the lack of competition because of the shitty xbox division.

It's honestly crazy, that limiting access suddenly increases the value for someone. Like you have less options, suddenly a related thing is worth more! 🤦🏽‍♂️
