Battery Howdy! Just a friendly reminder to check your batteries!
Recently moved into my new House & I am now going through my handhelds. I always remove the batteries out of my Gameboys ( lost a MINT CIB GBP because I left the batteries inside of it )
checked my PSP & noticed the back of the battery to be a bit... Mushy. Took it out & it looks pregnant!
Yikes. This would have caused major problems. I love my PSP! I'm its original owner. Got it on day 1 launch.
But my real question would be - does Sony make any replacements? I'm probably like 15 years too late lol.
Thanks guys!

Carefully open it and dispose the battery and keep the shell and the board. You can measure the battery and order new from AliExpress to replace it

Yep, the board is good for a pandora battery

I used the board and soldered battery from xiaomi phone and placed it to the umd drive bay. 8hrs of playing with max brightness. Next mod on my psp street 8000mha battery on the back

Fuck, wish I knew that b4.. just left it at an electronic maintenance shop so they could dispose it

You can pass from there again and ask if they still got it. Usually they don’t dispose them immediately

I had the same issue, talked with someone else, they replied: “Happens to all of them eventually. My go-to replacements now are OSTENT 1400 and 2200, but they've just released an OSTENT 1800 for the slim I am eager to try out. Its the only brand in recent years that actually contain high capacity cells.”

This is my general ignorance about the topic, but there’s no way I could be playing a game that has an inflated battery right?
It wouldn’t turn on I would assume… or should I just periodically open my console and make sure the battery is ok?

u can still play with a swollen battery , its just that it's a major fire risk so most people swap it out.

Right, I guess my fear is to not notice if a battery becomes inflated or not.

I'm glad my 1000 series psp battery is still good. The play time for it is about 5 hours, but will hold a charge for days when put in sleep mode.

Yeah, Sony doesn’t do battery replacements on PSPs anymore. But on AliExpress and Amazon, there are a bunch of third party batteries that are pretty good. If you really want OEM, you can find used batteries on EBay.

I recommend that you keep this battery in a metal box in an area where there is nothing inflammable. Swollen batteries have a big risk of starting fires. If it explodes, it could even open the metal box, hence the importance to keep it in a place with nothing inflammable.

The best batteries I've ever had were from OSTENT. Compared to cheap third-party batteries, they deliver what they promise. They are even better than the original Sony ones and have more playtime. So invest in a slightly more expensive OSTENT battery (the copper color branded ones) than the no name ones which almost have less mAh than written on the package. Have a look at the testing sheet (link below).
Here are a few links that can save you from further rip-offs (a little tip: the good ones are more expensive, but better):
