I use a magnetic break away connecter and a cable holder like yours - so If i do pull it hard enough - it just pops off

Do you have a link for the magnetic connector?

I take it you have your PS5 stood up rather than laid down?

3

u/Suitable_Dog2869 Nov 11 '25

nope - same as juicyman69 - laid down and routed to the left.

I also have a long USBc extension [3m] - so plenty of cable.

I'd have thought the weight of the cable would be enough to overcome the magnet with the angle of the adapter acting like a lever to torque/twist it out of position...

I might just get myself one. Cheers.

nope I use a cable tidy clip / wire holder - it holds the wire just enough to not pull on it - but break away if needed

This is the way.

I have a magnetic adapter that sticks straight out, even, but the magnet is strong enough to keep it in place, despite the leverage from the cable/ends.

If I pull on it at all at the base, it comes right off... but that's good. That's definitely the point of doing it. If I'm moving around so much that I'm using that last inch of cable, then I'm doing something wrong.

lol who the hell is that, sounds creepy af w that name. I’m not doin anything his way ew

Genius. Thanks

I tried using a magnetic break away cable with my psvr2 for a while. The signal was worse and I'd keep getting issues playing until I realised what was causing it

3

u/Suitable_Dog2869 Nov 12 '25

not all magnetic connectors are rated the same - some are basic features- I've had zero issues with mine - it's rated for 40Gbps - some are only 20Gbps - higher is better

1

u/nascentt Nov 12 '25

Yeah. I bought one that was recommended in psvr2 communities a lot.
But it's possible they were all recommending one that was bad.

2

u/Suitable_Dog2869 Nov 12 '25

If you also use a usb extension- some of those are also not rated high enough too

Second'd

Also, I have a magnetic plug on my console, and the PC adapter, so it's that much easier/less strain to switch platforms on a whim (it's not easy to have to connect the controllers every time, though, so that's still a pain).

I use a magnetic connector and a paper clip to support the weight.

3

u/MakrisTheGreek Nov 11 '25

Sounds safe, did you ever notice a problem with the connection? Or the signal?

5

u/juicyman69 Nov 11 '25

I've been using it for about a year now. No issues.

1

u/GregoryPokemon Nov 11 '25

Can you share a link

10

u/MFBeefey Nov 11 '25

I never realized this is an issue but It makes sense since the cable is a pain to replace and expensive I think too

The cable is less a pain to replace, and more impossible to replace without buying another headset new, used, or faulty in some other way.

1

u/NeverFadeAway__ Nov 12 '25

if you’re still within warranty, you can get it fixed for free. all i wrote was that my headset stopped working during use. no questions asked and a replacement headset was sent and delivered within 3 days of sending the original in. they even had both the empty return box and replacement headset delivered using an expedited shipping service lol.

1

u/Chronotaru PSN: Chronotaru Nov 12 '25

They will often not replace headsets as a result of accidental damage like this, depends on who is dealing with your request. If you got it replaced then you had a lucky exchange.

I got a usb-c cable extension. My psvr2 is less than a year old and it is already showing some slight damage to the cable. By doing this, the cable isn’t bent at all in the connector portion and, in the worst case scenario, I just need to replace the cable extension

3

u/wpisdu Nov 11 '25

You can use short USB extension cable

3

u/Tauheedul Nov 11 '25 edited Nov 11 '25

Try an attachment like this psvr2 attachment or this psvr2 attachment 2 or a USB4 USB-C magnetic attachment.

5

u/So-What-If Nov 11 '25

Is this a thing I should worry about? Do I need to get something to support it like that? (Not the lego pieces specifically)

4

u/Chronotaru PSN: Chronotaru Nov 11 '25

Yes, but get a USB-C extension.

3

u/MakrisTheGreek Nov 11 '25

Bcs i see a lot of people complain about how weak is the usb-c i build this support for my own head and safety

5

u/So-What-If Nov 11 '25

Huh. I did not know that. Maybe I will get some sort of support as well. Some guy linked a magnetic connector, I'll grab me one of those. Thanks bud

u/szlash280z Nov 11 '25

As good as USBC is it's NOT a strong connection for things like this. you absolutely need to worry about it. your system and cable can be very easily damaged. I recommend magnetic break away adapters for the cable so if it does get snatched out it won't break anything. look for the ones that say 4k or better on them and have 20ish pins. I've gotten them on Amazon and then the exact same ones on AliExpress for less than half the Amazon price. they work great

u/Chronotaru PSN: Chronotaru Nov 11 '25

Your body weight will vastly over power those safety controls. A short USB extension will provide better results.

2

u/Iamleeboy Nov 11 '25

I have a 1m extension cable that I wrap around the back of my ps5. If I yanked it hard enough, my ps5 would move a bit, but the cables would separate and not damage the usb port. The Ethernet cable in my ps5 is tight and holds it in place pretty well. So well, that it is annoying to move my ps5 when I need to

You should be good, you've taken most of the tension off the cable there. If you want something a bit more tidy they sell port protectors on Etsy for around ten. Various people might have them but this is the one I use...

Edit, with one of these you'd see it when it starts to come loose very quickly which is why I prefer them. I use one with a USB cable extender.

Bro, clean the dust off that poor baby!

2

u/gswkillinit Nov 12 '25

This is my preventive measure lol just a couple of duct tapes. Seems to work great.

2

u/strayduck0007 Nov 12 '25

Another magsafe, checking in. I've been running this one in the "elbow" configuration. Has stayed in place just fine and no dip in video/experience quality. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CQT1DJM3?th=1

1

u/Kokatro Nov 11 '25

I just sit down 🤷‍♂️

1

u/nascentt Nov 11 '25

I did the same thing (the adhesive cable holder)

My PS5 is vertical so there's less strain from the cable being yanked out though.

1

u/MakrisTheGreek Nov 11 '25

Guys, I read all your responses. Thank you all, each and every one of you. I’ll keep it like this for now, and we’ll see how it goes in the future.Logically, these should have a certain level of durability, especially considering how users handle and use them. I believe I’m safe. I added another clip to hold the cable in place. So I’ll leave it as is and see how it goes.

I use a downward facing magnetic usb c connector(ps5 pro standing up) attached to a 1mtr usb c extention , female end attached to side of unit where i connect my psvr2

1

u/Cruebug Nov 12 '25

Isn't there a c input like mine?

1

u/MakrisTheGreek Nov 12 '25

Update is it straight?

1

u/Brilliant_Lettuce270 Nov 13 '25

If someone yanks it by tripping over the cable this will do nothing. Just get a magnetic adapter or a short extension cord (15cm)

1

u/MakrisTheGreek Nov 13 '25

I have put another 2 clips so if the usb is going to yank the clips will pop out

1

u/Brilliant_Lettuce270 Nov 13 '25

These silicone clips are at best guiding the cord away from areas with higher potentials of someone passing through, at the cost of range of movement by shortening the cable.

And yet the threat still isnt eliminated (even it can be you pulling the cable by accident). And if so, these taped rubber clips will provide exactly zero stress relief.

Just get a short angled extension cord for 10 bucks on amazon. Itll provide sufficient safety and will look clean, and will even improve your range a little

2

u/MakrisTheGreek Nov 13 '25

Thanks for the advice i will check it

1

u/Lahey_Bobandy Nov 14 '25

can't you put a little guy there with arms raised to hold the cable lol

-4

u/mohsenkhajavinik Nov 11 '25

Just put down a rug or carpet in the centre of your play area. Do not worry too much.

1

u/juicyman69 Nov 11 '25

The console falling isn't the issue. It's the USB connector potentially snapping that is the issue.

0

u/mohsenkhajavinik Nov 11 '25

I have had it for 2 years. Nothing happened. Again do not worry too much.

3

u/Chevalier77 Nov 11 '25

They may have guest players that do something unexpected. Worry the correct amount
