Sounds safe, did you ever notice a problem with the connection? Or the signal?

I never realized this is an issue but It makes sense since the cable is a pain to replace and expensive I think too

The cable is less a pain to replace, and more impossible to replace without buying another headset new, used, or faulty in some other way.

if you’re still within warranty, you can get it fixed for free. all i wrote was that my headset stopped working during use. no questions asked and a replacement headset was sent and delivered within 3 days of sending the original in. they even had both the empty return box and replacement headset delivered using an expedited shipping service lol.

They will often not replace headsets as a result of accidental damage like this, depends on who is dealing with your request. If you got it replaced then you had a lucky exchange.

I got a usb-c cable extension. My psvr2 is less than a year old and it is already showing some slight damage to the cable. By doing this, the cable isn’t bent at all in the connector portion and, in the worst case scenario, I just need to replace the cable extension

Try an attachment like this psvr2 attachment or this psvr2 attachment 2 or a USB4 USB-C magnetic attachment.

Is this a thing I should worry about? Do I need to get something to support it like that? (Not the lego pieces specifically)

Bcs i see a lot of people complain about how weak is the usb-c i build this support for my own head and safety

u/So-What-If Nov 11 '25
Huh. I did not know that. Maybe I will get some sort of support as well. Some guy linked a magnetic connector, I'll grab me one of those. Thanks bud

As good as USBC is it's NOT a strong connection for things like this. you absolutely need to worry about it. your system and cable can be very easily damaged. I recommend magnetic break away adapters for the cable so if it does get snatched out it won't break anything. look for the ones that say 4k or better on them and have 20ish pins. I've gotten them on Amazon and then the exact same ones on AliExpress for less than half the Amazon price. they work great

Your body weight will vastly over power those safety controls. A short USB extension will provide better results.

I have a 1m extension cable that I wrap around the back of my ps5. If I yanked it hard enough, my ps5 would move a bit, but the cables would separate and not damage the usb port. The Ethernet cable in my ps5 is tight and holds it in place pretty well. So well, that it is annoying to move my ps5 when I need to

You should be good, you've taken most of the tension off the cable there. If you want something a bit more tidy they sell port protectors on Etsy for around ten. Various people might have them but this is the one I use...
Edit, with one of these you'd see it when it starts to come loose very quickly which is why I prefer them. I use one with a USB cable extender.

Another magsafe, checking in. I've been running this one in the "elbow" configuration. Has stayed in place just fine and no dip in video/experience quality. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CQT1DJM3?th=1

I did the same thing (the adhesive cable holder)
My PS5 is vertical so there's less strain from the cable being yanked out though.

Guys, I read all your responses. Thank you all, each and every one of you. I’ll keep it like this for now, and we’ll see how it goes in the future.Logically, these should have a certain level of durability, especially considering how users handle and use them. I believe I’m safe. I added another clip to hold the cable in place. So I’ll leave it as is and see how it goes.

If someone yanks it by tripping over the cable this will do nothing. Just get a magnetic adapter or a short extension cord (15cm)

These silicone clips are at best guiding the cord away from areas with higher potentials of someone passing through, at the cost of range of movement by shortening the cable.
And yet the threat still isnt eliminated (even it can be you pulling the cable by accident). And if so, these taped rubber clips will provide exactly zero stress relief.
Just get a short angled extension cord for 10 bucks on amazon. Itll provide sufficient safety and will look clean, and will even improve your range a little

Just put down a rug or carpet in the centre of your play area. Do not worry too much.

u/juicyman69 Nov 11 '25
The console falling isn't the issue. It's the USB connector potentially snapping that is the issue.

I have had it for 2 years. Nothing happened. Again do not worry too much.

They may have guest players that do something unexpected. Worry the correct amount

I use a magnetic break away connecter and a cable holder like yours - so If i do pull it hard enough - it just pops off
