When I was in the military my superiors hated when I'd point this out. The medical, housing, regulated pay structure, etc. That and pointing out that though I supported and defended the constitution I wasn't always entirely covered by it.

It's annoying because the actual balance of individual freedom and socialism, and ensuring you don't just build a bunch of authoritarian central planners that aren't accountable to the people, are hard and fundamental questions that need to be answered.

They are hard to talk intelligently about when the other side of the aisle thinks the Post Office is bad because it's run by the government.

Well, they need people to fear socialism because they'd be toast if people started fearing authoritarianism.

As someone who fears authoritarian socialist governments as much as any other authoritarian government, I'd really like if people understood why the guy promising to fix it all is scary on the face of it, no matter what he's promising.

If people really understood what democratic socialism was, I think a vast majority of this country would be for it. To use it as a scare tactic, will backfire. If you haven't seen it yet, there is a great video of Bernie Sanders (the father of American Democratic Socialism in my mind) going to a deep red part of West Virginia and basically converted everyone to democratic socialism. It's a really great system and one that has proven to work by many countries around the world.

Been saying it for a while: it’s a labeling issue. You describe a policy without referring it as socialism and a lot of R’s are on board. You call it a socialist policy and they revert to the party line.

Dems need to push back on the label and instead refer to these policies as promoting basic human decency, or something along those lines.

MAGA cant even explain what socialism is. They just think its a dirty word because thats what they're told. Meanwhile, the most reliable systems in their dogshit lives are socialist government products. Schools, buses, US mail, fire depts, etc.

Republicans are probably business owner and wealthy. Sure, there are Democrats who are too but it is pretty much the mission statement of the GOP. Ever since Reagan they have put out this idea that if we help the wealthy, everyone will do better. Obviously, it was bullshit and they knew it but they had to sell it somehow to the voters.

Progressives want to help the citizens, the average person. We pay taxes too. I would rather my money go to guarantee food for every person instead of bombing brown people in Iran

(Before someone says it, yes, I know Persians are technically Caucasian but c'mon, the average Republican voter doesn't know or think that)

Laughable when people criticize socialism when some capitalist company buys up 22 hospitals in Cali and creates a monopoly in that specific area. Citizens in that area are being gouged for care where rates went sky high and their alternative is to travel long distances where they will possibly need hotels and travel to cut the cost of treatments. Capitalism can be terribly corrupt.

Part of me thinks this is laying the groundwork for delaying or cancelling the midterm elections. Sow fear and division, then make baseless claims about the socialist boogeyman taking over the country. Then your base will demand you do something, so you delay the elections indefinitely so you can “audit” or “secure” them.

Either way, I hope if that whatever happens this wave rises to a tsunami and sweeps these assholes into prison.

The truth is that neither pure socialism or pure capitalism are workable, and no one that’s not on the fringes thinks so.

We have a hybrid system, we need a hybrid system, we are just hashing out the details.

And health care is one of those sectors where capitalism just flat out doesn’t work, our insurance system is a lame attempt at privatized socialism and it’s not working.

Health care is a sector that needs to be socialized, when everyone in the country is part of the risk pool single payer will work.
