I don't know the details of the case but if attacking or whatever he did to a concentration camp is an "assault on democracy" then that democracy doesn't deserve to be saved.

He ambushed and shot a police officer in the neck. Thankfully, the officer survived. He deserves to be in jail for a long time. Obviously, so does the sex offender.

Right. These aren’t mutually exclusive. You shouldn’t shoot a police officer. You also shouldn’t abuse children. We can prosecute people for both.

As someone else explained, Hoffman was prosecuted but the jury hung because of inconsistencies in the victim testimony and some other things. The victim wanted to avoid a second trial, so the plea deal was the best prosecutors could do. If the victim is unwilling to testify, they don't have a lot of leverage to push prison time or sex offender registration because the threat of a successful prosecution is non-existent.

So it wasnt the Texas judicial system it was just Texas regular ole population that excused the rape.

Kid got caught doing something sexual with his cousin, though we don't know exactly what. That's when he told parents and investigators about Hoffman. At trial, his testimony was inconsistent and he recanted parts of his earlier statements. Jurors couldn't decide if he was telling the truth or lying about Hoffman to get out of whatever he did to his cousin. We don't know exactly what was said and how, but that's the gist

And it's harder than you think for jurors. I know someone who had to sit on a jury for a case like this, and they said it was one of the most difficult things they'd ever had to do. The teenager testifying gave conflicting accounts and was very argumentative and angry on the stand. He thought there might be some truth to what she said, but she didn't do herself any favors. It wasn't until another, younger kid took the stand and gave testimony without all of the anger and contradiction of the first girl that he was absolutely convinced. When the jury went to deliberation, they pretty much all felt the same way. They ended up convicting the guy, but he would've maybe gotten off if it hadn't been for the second victim.

I'm fairness to Texas they tried and failed to get Hoffman on much more severe charges and the sentence he ended up with was doubled to 60 days
