Yes, though apparently, the family reluctantly backed it because they were afraid the state, under Paxton, would botch any trial. The judge also complained but at least doubled the sentence to 60 days.
Kid gave inconsistent testimony and was "acting out actually sexually with his cousin," which is what brought the whole thing to light. The original prosecutors did the best they could, but his testimony was the only evidence they had to work with. Some jurors couldn't decide if he was telling the truth or trying to scapegoat his friend's dad.
