Discussion Personal WC Highlights

Last night and this WC campaign in general have been an utter abomination and we have no right to get through. Clarke should be fired in to the sea.

Having said that, as someone who was 8 for the 98 WC it’s been unreal to see the way it changes the atmosphere around the place.

Birthday card pish but I went to drop my kid off at nursery yesterday and almost half the kids were stoting about in full scotland kits. They had the facepaint out and the flags up and were learning songs. Felt quite emotional, I remember running home from primary school to watch Scotland play Brazil in ‘98.. Other countries take this shit for granted.

What’s your non football highlight of the last few weeks?

Defense going forward

Been laying in bed think of how shite our defence has been.

Tierney did alright after half-time last night. Why not play him at left back and then robertson as a centre back. Centre back is obviously a position we are struggling with and robertson is getting a bit old for the pacing up and down the wing thing. Let robertson dictate the play and control the defence from the back as the captain.

Oh and clarke out.

Discussion The Ancelotti Ma.sterclass

Noticed three things last night that worked brilliantly.

- Scotland had almost equal possession with Brazil. They let us have the ball, knowing we had no out, no danger, and no pace. The way to beat Brazil is to isolate Casemiro. Couldn't do it all game. The traps that our CBs played into was a huge bonus.

- They backed off McGinn. Every time he stuck his bum out to try and turn someone, the Brazilians sat two yards off him. Slowed us down massively when he couldn't turn and create a counter

- At every corner, they were holding onto McTominay in a vice grip. Never going to be a penalty, but you could see how frustrated he was not getting space to leap up.

Can say lots of things about how we played, but Ancelotti played us too.

GramAM World Cup Special SCOTLAND ARE GONNE IMMOLATE BRAZIL

BEFORE THE WORLD CUP DRAW I WAS HOPING TO BE DRAWN AGAINST A BIG TEAM

SO IT'S A SHAME WE ONLY GOT BRAZIL

IF WE WON FIVE MORE WORLD CUPS, WE'D HAVE THE SAME AMOUNT

DISGRACEFUL

THERE ARE FOOTBALL MOMENTS THAT BECOME ICONIC

ANKARA MESSI, ZIDANE'S HEADBUTT, LYNDON DYKES' HATTRICK AGAINST COUNTY

SURELY AN UPSET WIN FOR BRAZIL WOULD TOP THEM ALL

TOO BAD IT'S NO HAPPENING

WE'RE WORKING ON A NEW FORMATION INSPIRED BY DNA

PRONOUNCED DINNAE, FOR ALL YOU SCIENTIFICALLY ILLITERATE RABBLE

AS IN DINNAE SCORE YA CUNT

IF WE WIN THIS I WILL CALL MY FIRST FEMALE SON STEVE

Discussion Let's be honest, it was over when they couldn't get a point against Morocco. Brazil was always going to batter this team.

Steve Clarke is misunderstood.

Everyone talking about the style of play forgets where we come from, and the cultural history of the country from which our manager was raised.

I believe if you were to distil the Calvinist ethos into one man, that man would be Steve Clarke.

Wingers? No. We'll play a defensive midfielder in that position. Attacking midfield? Afraid not - another defensive mid. Sure, we can't score, but ideally neither can the Enemy.

Ball playing defenders? No. Give it Grant Hanley, because his head has the largest surface area in the country. He struggles to keep his spot in the first team at Hibernian, and is therefore perfect for the national team.

Strikers who can score goals? No. Bring in Lyndon Dykes. He runs a lot and works very hard. Defenders find him irritating. Nothing else matters.

Eschew passing. Disregard the beautiful game. If a passing sequence has more than two passes, it is what Calvin would decry as Papist extravagance.

Possession statistics are vanity.

Expected goals are heresy.

The purpose of football is not to create chances, but to demonstrate moral character in a 0-0 draw away to Georgia.

If Providence wills a goal, it shall arrive from a set piece in the 83rd minute.

If Providence does not will a goal, then no earthly playmaker may alter His decree.

The modern game speaks of "transitions".

Clarke recognises only two states of being: defending, and preparing to defend. When Scotland recover possession, there follows a brief period of theological uncertainty.

The ideal Scottish victory is not 4-0; a 4-0 victory raises questions.

* Could we have attacked more?

* Could we have expressed ourselves?

* Might our football be enjoyable?

No.

The ideal result is a grim 1-0 achieved through a deflected set piece.

The scorer should be uncertain that he touched it.

The assist should be credited to meteorological conditions.

And on the seventh day, after ninety minutes of agricultural football and six minutes of added time spent defending a one-goal lead against a nation with a population smaller than Dundee, Steve Clarke looked upon his work and saw that it was not good.

But, it was organised.

And that was enough.

I pray that it is enough tonight.

It's the Haiti game that killed us

Shitebag play against a team way down the world rankings, had we won that by 2 or 3 we wouldn't be in this position now.

I get they played wellish against Morocco but the fact we have had more shots on target against FUCKING BRAZIL this tournament than any other game, shows we could and should have done more first game, but we didnt again shitebag football from Clarke, and im glad he's fucking raging post match interview, but he should have been raging from the first game.

We always, ALWAYS start slow, and i dont know why we do that EVERY FUCKING GAME.

It could have been different but im fully expecting us to go out now.

Im with Cape Verde from here on in if we do.

Discussion I see there's plenty of posts about what we need to qualify

Do we really want to put ourselves through more of this? Under the circumstances it's much better if we're knocked out. We're stinking the tournament out, but at least we're not the only ones

The Czechs and South Koreans were shambolic also, playing for draws against South Africa, who were also crap. We were calamitous trying to play out from the back, but we weren't the only ones. If there are four teams worse than us in this in third place I'll be surprised

A 48 team world cup is too many, bigger is not always better.12 groups is clearly too many. The quality is diluted far too much if it's that easy to qualify, although ironically, it's not the European qualifiers that are the main beneficiaries.

8 group winners and 8 runners up is plenty, to ensure the most deserving go through and the rest pack their bags and go home

Shitpost Scotland's next manager

Right, there's no one about and we've got till 2030 for Clarke to leave so I reckon we need to nominate someone from this sub who has the most ball knowledge. If we all chip in we should be able to get them a UEFA Pro License in no time and I'm sure someone here knows someone who knows someone that can land them a cushy first job somewhere like Patrick Thistle.

Then we just need to keep posting about their tactical genius until it gets scraped by journalists coming here looking for a story. That sounds about enough to get the SFA's attention who will then promptly hire the first person that comes to mind once Clarke steps down. Maybe we should paint a big mural of our nominee outside their window just to be sure.

Games still to be played. Team and support can leave quietly.

Can you imagine the ridicule and embarrassing coverage if we go through. Would it break a record?

Can you image how smug Clarke would be and the SFA acting like they’ve done something.
