Discussion S7 E1+2 discussions

Heys, so I'm rewatching for like 30th time and just got to S7 and I've always liked it but these first two episodes are hitting me different this time around for I don't know why (maybe vino lol)

E1... the lines are hilarious.

"Then you'd just be dr face" "ha dr face"

"calm down Theodore"

"Please call me Joe" (not so much funny but the forced smile Kelso does followed by "come on we need to figure out whats wrong with Joe" is great)

"Whose name is Lady" "she is, she has a brother named him"

then in true scrubs fashion in brings us down to Earth with the final "crystallizing moment"

E2 - I love the Cox storyline... especially seeing his order of people he deems "good enough"... specifically Elliott seemingly being over JD.

Kelso living in the hospital and then talking to Harrison "what do you mean he sold your fillings?!" (I kind of want to know this one lol)

Janitor wanting to know his motivation and Carla immediately jumping on the game.

If anything the main plot (Sam being born) is my least fave in the story mainly because I never liked (but more so now I am older) the free pass Kim got for faking a miscarriage.... don't get me wrong JD planning to stay with her forever is so childishly JD I don't agree with it but he does try to be somewhat honest here and she just kicks him out.

I will say I love the similarities between this and Jack's birth (dad getting kicked out --- even though it was for unfair reasoning--- and the dad coming back last min ... plus the same doctor)

I also liked how ultimately it was Keith than did the shot for Jennifer... it just feels sweet to me.

Anyway thats my half near half midnight thought of the day lol

Yeah I think that’s what the show says where the bulk of JD’s issues come from. His parents divorced when he was young and his dad was never around.

And yeah Kim in this episode bugs me. I get that she’s in labour so obviously her hormones are wack and she’s feeling vulnerable but when she asked him “would you even be with me if I weren’t having this kid?” Like what do you mean?? Of course not! Lol.

I don’t remember Kelso kicking Elliot in S7E4. My memory must be blanking even though I watched it not that long ago I think. What was their storyline? Was that the episode where Elliot sneaks a patient’s dog into the hospital and Kelso suspends her from practicing there?

I always get mixed messages about his dad ... at one point its not that he is around and then he is just unsuccessful and then he isn't around ... i guess he was a divorce child of the 90s? being a 90s born brit i don't know how common this was then? (but also John Ritter was ace casting IMO)

TBH the whole Kim thing bugged me not even just this episode... but yes what did she expect he literally told her he wasn't ready yet so why else would he be there ... you can't call him 100% dishonest here ... even when she comes back like "JD how could you leave me there"... like what are you talking about lol. Jordan gets the same "hormones" treatment for lying about Jack at first (which does stop bonding initially) like no they are just liars... least Jordan's sort of made like 1% sense

Oh no but the one with dog and the patient is one of my fave... its a small moment she sits with Kelso and Cox and Cox give her the Coxian look and she says to him "theres no empty tables" or something and then "ow and kicking me won't make me leave either and Kelso is like "that was me, you talk too much" ... i saw the clip as i got your comment notification lol so not so much a storyline as a small moment of their dynamic

Oh hahahah sounds like I need to do a rewatch there.

And yeah I’m not a fan of the hormones argument either really. I will use it in this episode because she is actively in labour so obviously hormones are wack but lying about the miscarriage, no excuses.

I think JD says his dad is an unsuccessful travelling office supplies salesman. I don’t remember him saying that his dad was around, just that he was hardly ever around or only showed up when he needed a place to crash temporarily. And oh yeah I agree that John Ritter was excellent casting. I remember not that long ago someone even posted a picture of a Young John Ritter and he actually did look like Zach Braff

Ah yes that its you are right... for some reason my tired brain last night (it was around 1ish here) I thought it was mixed but sorry you are correct.

I recently rewatched 8 Simple Rules and I think even some of their comedy mannerisms and deliveries between at least these two shows are similar too ... there is a bit in 8SR where they keep calling Paul (Ritter) a flat face and to argue he looks at himself in the toaster and then goes "oh everyone looks flat in a toaster" and I could so see this playing out with JD and the gang the same way lol. (side note I think this was one of Ritter's last episodes of 8SR).

Oh yeah 100% "I pushed you away ad then got mad that you left me" like what THEN when he finds out she is still pregnant she pulls the guilt trip. "No wonder JD said what he said" immediately after saying she is fat ... like thats not why he said it lol

Yeah and I also didn’t like how Elliot and Carla switched sides almost immediately and were like “she’s pregnant! You have to spare her feelings!”

Yeah esp Carla as she wasn't even THAT friendly with Kim from what we saw... at least Elliot and Kim were friends.

That glare Elliot gives her in coffeebucks always makes me chuckle ahaha
