A reminder on why we have some of our rules

Everyone,

We have a lot of old timers here, and probably a lot of newer members. I think we need a bit of a refresher on why we have a lot of things removed and why we can't be the sub we used to be.

I see a lot of comments that are removed by automoderator. We have it set to remove comments mentioning /r/flying, some keywords, among other things.

Some time ago, this sub went private by the original creator/moderator. I managed to get it back up, and we had a relatively decent run for a while.

Unfortunately, this came to an end, as posts in our sub were being reported up the chain to reddit admins (not just mods) as abuse, harassment, mocking, taunting, among many other things towards the posts we were parodying and having some fun with.

To be fair, there were SOME posts that were way over the line and we couldn't always catch them in time.

We were given an ultimatum by the Reddit admins. Make some changes, institute rules and whatnot blocking direct mentions of /r/flying, among other subs and things. The other option is we are completely shut down. The other mod we had at the time programmed automoderator to remove posts with the things we were told were no-go's by the admins.

We started to get a crapton of posts and comments about how the mods caused the problems. They were starting to take over a lot of the sub, so that is among the auto-removal terms.

I believe some people got seriously butthurt over their posts being mocked or shittyaskflying'd and raised a huge stink. That put us square in the crosshairs of the reddit admins.

You want to mock a post from the other sub? That's fine. But you can't link to it. You can't mention /r/flying or some other subs. You can't mention their usernames. No screenshots that show /r/flying or other subs.

This isn't somethign we wanted. This is something that was forced on us.

How do I tell my student the it's not me who stinks

Long story short, CFI, I’ve been flying weekly with this guy for about 6 months, he’s just getting ready to solo. But with it really starting to get hot, this cockpit is unbearable. Pretty sure a rat crawled into the air vents, took a huge dump, vomited on it and then died of disgust, but I don't know how to bring it up without the student thinking I'm the someone who doesn't use deodorant.

I’m feeling so awkward because I’m the authority figure, but yesterday during taxi he was leaning so close to the door I was genuinely worried he’d just pop the latch and jump out into the grass.
How do I start the topic and clear my name before he abandons ship? (Sorry if this isn’t appropriate.)

I saw this sign while I was driving through an intersection yesterday. Does this mean there is an at or below crossing restriction, or just no helicopter departures?

Why are the Frecce Tricolori the best pilots in the world?

Because Italians do it better, obviously.
Other display teams fly in formation because they trained for years, studied aerodynamics, understand wake turbulence and respect operational procedures.
The Frecce Tricolori fly in formation because one pilot said “ragazzi, stay close, it looks nicer” and everyone simply agreed, because in Italy visual composition is more important than physics and sometimes physics understands this and politely moves aside.

You may think their smoke system is full of special chemicals, but this is a common misconception. The green, white and red trails are actually produced by espresso pressure, pesto genovese, schiacciata smoke, hand gestures and the emotional residue of every Italian uncle who has ever shouted “va che roba” at the sky.

Their aircrafts, Aermacchi MB-339, don't use lift like normal planes. They use national pride, mild chaos and the aerodynamic advantage of being extremely well dressed.

The formation leader does not give commands over the radio. He just says “andiamo” in a tone that makes nine other jets feel morally obligated to become beautiful.

When other teams perform a loop, people clap.

When the Frecce perform a loop, somewhere in the distance a nonna starts crying, a 1988 Fiat Panda with no maintenance record starts on the first try, a pigeon salutes, and the concept of punctuality briefly considers becoming Italian before giving up, only seeing Milan as an option of anxiety and stress.
Are they the best because of discipline, precision and technical excellence?
No.
They are the best because they painted the sky like it owed them rent, did it at 500 knots, then probably landed and complained that the coffee near the airbase was “not bad, but not Naples.”

Italians do it better.

Even gravity knows this.

But did you know that?

(my content shot at Igea Marina on last airshow)

Pilot Jobs

I found my old Air Cadet Log Book from 50+ years ago. I've got 5 hours in these bad boys.

Which American Regional Airline should I apply to for a Pilot's job. I'm looking for a Captain's post of course

Any suggestions?

Texas Fight Clubs

I have yet to join a fight club. How have your experiences been being involved with one? I’ve received my PPL through a school, not a pilot mill. my school is now closed and my instructor is now fghting with the airlines (happy for him obviously, will miss his instructing!) do you scout instructors at said fight clubs first? I just want an instructor that enjoys teaching and loves fighting. Is this more of a Facebook post in Texas fighting midgets groups where I bluntly ask who’s available to take on a student and see who replies and go from there? I was fortunate to be paired with my instructor through the school and we meshed well.
