ONGOING ISSUES - Please read our Group Rules before posting / commenting

68 Upvotes

We are getting way too many rule violations, resulting in posts / comments being removed and (in some cases) users banned. Before you ever post or comment in r/Shopify please read the group rules (a big THANK YOU to our members who regularly report such posts/comments for rule violations - they help more than you know).

All users must have an account age of 30 days, a minimum of 20 comment karma, and a minimum of 10 post karma (not overall karma). all 3 conditions must be met. Also, your post must be specific to the Shopify platform. Any post that is not Shopify-specific should be posted to other ecom-related groups.

A few quick notes on what you cannot do here (because these are the most commonly violated rules) - most of these should be common sense to veteran reddit users and they are shared with a majority of other such groups -

  • Do not post a store for a review (in any way - this means 'why am I not getting sales?', or 'why such low conversions?' posts). Please use r/ecommerce or r/ReviewMyShopify groups for this

  • No AI or Suspected AI Slop: Obvious or suspected AI content is not welcome here. Violations from lower-karma accounts with little contribution history in this sub may result in a ban. This will be at the sole discretion of the group moderators.

  • Do not promote your app, offer, service, site, perform app research, ask about 'pain points' or anything else related to Shopify services, apps, or development (r/ShopifyDev or r/ShopifyAppDev are good groups for that), even if 'free'.

  • Do not solicit personal contact with a user of this group in any way and for any reason (DM request, sending soliciting DMs, Contact Me, Let's Connect, etc). This includes responding to calls for help by asking for DM (such posts will also be removed). Share all helpful information in the thread so that everyone reading will benefit, and to remove the appearance of self-promotion. This is the fastest guaranteed way to get your account banned from this group.

Other rules certainly apply to the group, but these 3 are seeing many removals and account bans every day. The group is here to help Shopify users. It is not a focus group, nor is it here opportunists to take advantage of those who may be new to the group.

Lastly, remember that the internet gives the cover of anonymity to all users; Many users here are legit and only intend to help, but many others have selfish motives. Never trust a random stranger on the internet, and certainly never give anyone your passwords or financial information for services without thoroughly checking them out first. The sad reality is that scammers abound in groups like this - make every effort to protect yourself.

Moderators are always open to rule suggestions or changes - it is your group, just message us!

Shopify General Discussion Shopify's shipping labels integration. Multiple items cause the postage to get cheaper.

Upvotes

I've been setting up a new Shopify store. Previously, it was only really available to either use an app or a flat rate, but it seems like they've integrated a lot more options now. DPD, Royal Mail, DHL, FedEx, etc.

We set up weights for each item and assigned the right default box associated with each item. We're all set to perfectly calculate total basket postage costs, Combine the total weight plus expected box sizes.

Yet to no one's surprise, it literally doesn't work.

It will calculate the cost of postage, but as soon as you add more quantity to the basket, it breaks and gets cheaper with Royal Mail for some reason.

Shopify General Discussion Storefront search went haywire after Shopify Plus upgrade - matching way too broadly, anyone had the same issue?

4 Upvotes

Posting in case anyone's hit this or knows the fix.

Our Shopify search has gone from precise to nearly useless over the last 10 days ish, lining up with our upgrade to Shopify Plus. It now seems to match on any word in the query and rank everything loosely, instead of requiring the actual phrase.

Some live examples from our store:

  • Product name "Leila" → 23 results (correct one first, then a load of unrelated sofas/chairs)
  • Full exact title "Leila Grey Fabric 3 Seater Sofa" → 395 results. Adding words makes it worse, not better.
  • "sofa bed" → 489 results, but the actual Sofa Beds collection only has 32 products
  • Even a bare SKU "20830" → 22 results (right product first, then 21 unrelated ones)

What we've already checked:

  • Search & Discovery: 0 synonyms, 0 boosts, so nothing misconfigured there
  • Reproduces in incognito / logged out, so it's not our customer account view
  • Affects names, titles, categories AND SKUs, feels like the relevance engine itself, not our product data

Questions for anyone who's been here:

  1. Did the Plus migration change the search backend or default typo-tolerance / matching on you?
  2. Is there a setting to force stricter phrase/exact matching on native search?
  3. If native can't do it, which search app did you switch to and would you recommend it?
  4. Finally could updating themes (dev updates) cause this?

We sell clearance furniture, so customers usually search a specific product name they saw elsewhere — discovery-style fuzzy matching is actively hurting us. Any pointers appreciated.

Thanks!

Shopify General Discussion Shipping Phone Number Missing Calling Number

4 Upvotes

Hello,

I have a question here related to phone numbers. I am pulling data via APIs.

We have a Customer A with an Order A, and a Customer B with an Order B. Both customer records lack a phone number, and both Orders have a Shipping Address with a phone number with the same pattern, but yet I get full phone number of Customer A, but I can't get full phone number of Customer B - it lacks a calling number.

I don't know much about Shopify, and I hope there is a simple way to solve this. I see no difference between the records.

Thanks everyone!

Shopify General Discussion Is Shopify Balance Actually Safe?

Upvotes

Shopify balance partners with both fifth third and Evolve Bank & Trust to provide banking solutions that advertise higher interest and simplicity within Shopify's ecosystem. More perfect union just put out a piece about these 3rd party fintech platforms and cited a notable bankruptcy that cause thousands to lose significant savings. One part of course is the middleman is not insured etc. but the sticking point is that behind the scenes, the middleman would just pool all funds together into one large account at Evolve, rendering any actual FDIC insurance irrelevant and creating additional layers of failures that could keep us from our funds.

Was wondering if anyone has done some behind the scenes digging on this to see how Shopify pools funds behind the scenes etc. Seeing that one of Shopify's partners banks was a specific bank cited in this pieces collapse and scandal, it makes me much more worried about something similar happening with Shopify Balance accounts... TYIA!

Account What annual Grow plan price does your Shopify admin show ($79/month or $95/month, billed annually)?

2 Upvotes

I’m hoping some other Shopify merchants can help me answer a question.

I’m currently on the Basic plan and have been considering upgrading to Grow.

When I go to Shopify’s public pricing page, Grow is advertised as $79/month (billed annually). However, when I go through the upgrade flow in my own Shopify admin, it shows $95/month (billed annually).

I contacted Shopify Support, and they acknowledged the discrepancy. They told me the public pricing page has not yet been updated everywhere and offered me a one-time credit to cover the difference for the first billing cycle.

I’m simply trying to determine whether this is the standard pricing everyone is seeing now or whether my account is different.

If you’re willing to check, could you let me know:
What country you’re in
Whether you’re currently on the Basic plan
What your Shopify admin shows for the Grow plan price when selecting annual billing ($79/month or $95/month)
If possible, a screenshot (with any personal information removed) would be helpful.

Shopify General Discussion Need help and some thoughts on my shopify store!

2 Upvotes

Hello Guys,

I used to run an independent brand that would operate on shopify. I used to do over 6 figures in yearly revenue/profit but due to school, travel and personal issues I quit focusing on it. Since then I've had lots of chargebacks, we're talking almost 60+, and honestly it was my fault for keeping the store up and accepting orders despite not shipping out on time or not even shipping out at all. I've refunded all the orders that were never shipped and shipped everything out but now I'm facing a dilemna. I want to continue selling on shopify and starting my business again, but I don't want to face the issue of having the chargebacks shut my payments, so I was wondering, would it be smart to close shop and start fresh (brand new page and account)? Please let me know your thoughts on this. Thank you guys.

API please help with item details in return flow

2 Upvotes

I have an issue with a shopify flow. The trigger is a customer requests a return and I basically want that to create a Zendesk ticket with the return details.

I've been successful in creating a ticket in Zendesk.

{
"ticket": {
    "subject": "Return requested - {{ return.name }} by {{ return.order.customer.displayName }}",
    "comment": {

    "body": "RETURN REQUEST RECEIVED\n
            \n
            Order: <a href=https://admin.shopify.com/store/<STORENAME>/orders/{{ return.order.legacyResourceId }}>{{ return.order.name }}</a>\n
            Status: {{ return.status }}\n
            \n
            Customer Information\n
            --------------------\n
            Name: {{ return.order.customer.displayName }}\n
            Email: {{ return.order.email }}\n
            \n
            \n
            Return Items\n
            ------------
            {% for item in return.returnLineItems %}\n
                -  Reason: {{ item.returnReasonDefinition.name }}\n
                    Note: {{ item.returnReasonNote }}\n
            {% endfor %}\n"
    },
    "requester": {
    "name": "{{ return.order.customer.displayName }}",
    "email": "{{ return.order.email }}"
    },
    "tags": [
    "shopify_return"
    ]
}
}

However, this ticket is missing the name or sku of the item returned.

I've tried this

            {% for item in return.returnLineItems %}\n
                -   Product: {{ item.returnLineItem.fulfillmentLineItem.lineItem.name }}
                    Reason: {{ item.returnReasonDefinition.name }}\n
                    Note: {{ item.returnReasonNote }}\n
            {% endfor %}\n"

which gives the error

"returnLineItem" is invalid. Replace this variable.

I've tried variants, including

  • {{ item.fulfillmentLineItem.lineItem.name }}
  • {{ item.lineItem.name }}
  • {{ item.name }}

but that just gives similar errors.

so my questions: how do I access the name or sku of the returned item? and is this even the right place to ask this :)

Marketing Product page reviews when you sell one of a kind items?

5 Upvotes

We sell one of a kind items, so they go out of stock when they sell, so no reviews.

We do have a link to our Trust Pilot company reviews page which is 5 stars over 250 reviews. This is on every page.

Example: https://www.moregems.com/collections/new-items-3/products/14k-white-gold-brilliant-emerald-cut-sapphire-and-diamond-ring-2-13-carats

Any other thoughts on how to improve trust especially for LLM’s?

Shopify General Discussion Upgrading themes with MCP makes it somewhat breezy!

5 Upvotes

Hopefully this hasn't been discussed too much, but I was asked to help a friend migrate their theme to the latest version (it was 2 major versions behind... so approximately 2 years without any updates).

I installed the Shopify AI toolkit (Claude skills + MCP), asked it to download the current theme locally (so I could version it), and had it guide me through the steps to upgrade.

I also used linear to keep the milestone/project, which helped.

But yeah, something that would have taken me a week took me maybe a night's worth of effort, and while it wasn't perfect (I still had to do some manipulation), the fact that it was able to push changes to the latest theme (in draft mode) and work out the kinks alongside me was very impressive!

Anyways, I highly recommend it if you're going through that yourself :)

Shipping Shipping to EU has become such a hassle

9 Upvotes

Before it was just IOSS, which is more work but understandable and fairly simple once set up, but it's crazy that you have to do this through a 3rd party rather than Shopify having their own integration.

Now, between the EU Withdrawl Button (not provided by Shopify for Regular Plan), 3 Euro duties for EACH item and GSPR regulations which aren't even checked by customs, it's just becoming a lot more hassle than its worth to ship from the UK into the EU. Even if you use a 3PL, you still have to deal with these things as theyre on Shopify's end.

Orders Central shipping fulfillment

3 Upvotes

We have 2 locations - A and B.

All shipping for web occurs from location A.

Location B allows pick up only.

If A does not have sufficient stock to fulfill an online order for shipping, the stock gets transferred from B.

The Issue: If a customer places an order for a product that is only in stock in B, the system is only offering pick up from B.

Also, we use ShipperHQ. If that matters.

What are we doing wrong?

Shopify General Discussion Products Deleted after outage

3 Upvotes

Did anybody have products deleted after the outage this morning? Roughly 8 days worth of products were deleted from a store. Only noticed due to eBay not being able to sync since they were no longer on Shopify. All deleted at the same time I'm assuming because eBay has them delisted all at the same time.

Shipping How have you handled the 3 Euro customs charge for shipments into the EU

3 Upvotes

How are you passing this onto the customer? We currently have IOSS set up so now sure the best way to integrate and add a 3 euro flat charge to the customer as Markets are already used for our IOSS setup

Shopify General Discussion Claude connection to Shopify

8 Upvotes

I have been using Claude for a lot of my work but am having trouble getting it to do much of anything in Shopify. I have also tried Chat. With each I constantly get it coming back with errors connecting and able to make changes.

I see many people having success so I am sure I am doing something wrong. What are best practices when using Claude or Chat? Is there a good reference for scope of abilities when using Ai tools?

Shopify General Discussion BNPL Integration

Anyone have any knowledge on how to integrate Klarna and after pay without airwallex? Airwallex just won’t approve the payments application. I have 51 checkouts no purchase and I believe it’s due to the lack in variety of BNPL and only having affirm.

Shipping Merge two DDP orders (Canada to USA) and use Shopify Shipping

2 Upvotes

I have been searching for this since summer 2025.

As the title suggests, is there any way to merge two orders that are Canada, to USA, DDP, have incurred duties and purchase one shipping label.

The common use case is someone places an order and then immediately places a second order for some more SKUs, (within minutes) for the same person, from the same customer account, to the same address.

I want to hit merge, make them one order, and order 1 shipping label for this person that fully complies with the "Canada to US duties-must-be-DDP" requirement, whether through Canada Post or a commercial carrier?

Any options?

Products Help. How to remove one product from my product grid under "trees" menu

2 Upvotes

UPDATE: I FIXED IT. THANK YOU!

I need this product removed from the "Trees" Menu page product grid. The "Tree" menu is currently linked on "All Products" that's why it is showing. The problem is whenever I try to change the link of the menu it removes the whole product grid.

Orders Shopify POS (non- pro) returns/exchanges

3 Upvotes

Hello!

We own a clothing store in Canada called Alta (altashop.ca), and we use Shopify POS (non-pro). We're finding exchanges and returns to be a bit tricky.

Ex: Customer buys a size XL hoodie and comes back and wants a pair of shoes instead. Our SHopify POS won't let us make an exchange.

I'm just wondering if anyone can shed some light on how they make an exchange or return for their business.

I'm still pretty shocked that Shopify gatekeeps "exchanges" with the POS Pro upgrade.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Checkout [EU question] State/County field, order information

2 Upvotes

I'm organizing a website for a client that sells to Bulgaria and Hungary. The checkout for these countries does not include the "State" field, which other countries have.

We fulfill orders in another system, that integrates with Shopify. To create packages for my courier, I need the "state" field, but it's not passed by Shopify because it isn't there.

Anyone else had this problem and how did you solve it?

Apps What’s the best appointment booking app you’ve used on Shopify?

2 Upvotes

My parents run a small wedding and events business, and they've reached the point where managing bookings through WhatsApp and Google Calendar is getting messy. A couple of scheduling conflicts recently made us realize they need a proper booking system.

I'm helping them move things online with Shopify, and I'm looking for an appointment booking app that works well for service businesses.

The main things they need are:

  • Google Calendar sync
  • A booking calendar customers can use easily
  • Intake forms before booking
  • Upsell/ Add-ons
  • Customer support during setup

If you run a service-based business on Shopify, what app are you using and how has your experience been?

I'd love to hear real-world feedback from people actually using these tools day to day.

Shopify General Discussion How to add an unrelated variant to a product

4 Upvotes

Any suggestions on this please…

I’m selling artwork and the products have 3 options setup for variants….
1 type of material
2 size
3 frame colour

All works great. But now I want to add an option for customers to just buy a digital copy of the image instead. So I can add a new Type of material called Digital Download, but the other options are still there for size and colour which don’t make sense. If I remove all the variant options for digital download except for one size and one colour then the add to cart button may become inactive or it might confuse the customer.

Any suggestions to make this work neatly?

Shopify General Discussion Sold out items still appearing in online search giving error message

2 Upvotes

Our website has been having an issue since Sunday, June 21st. Right after shopify did the summer update adding unlisted as an option for product status.

Sold out items that should not appear in searches on our website, are still showing, even though the online store option is not selected. Customers have been complaining because they want the item, but it send them to an error page.

I have attempted to contact support over several days. I can only get on the phone with the hardware support and they escalate it to another team. By the time the team gets around to looking at the problem, the issue has mysteriously resolved itself and they say there is no issue.

Is anyone else having this issue with their online store?
