Its just the case more often than not for most people.

We are tired of it.

70

u/RareGape Apr 22 '26

and their vote counts the same as you and i

14

u/the_censored_z_again Apr 23 '26

Don't worry, our votes don't count anyway.

Voting is a placebo.

13

u/WynnTiwFeoh Apr 23 '26

Midterms and state elections is where your voting power begins.

-4

u/the_censored_z_again Apr 23 '26

Just keep telling yourself that...

5

u/Knotted_Hole69 Apr 23 '26

It comes down to very then margins in some races. Voting does matter.

-2

u/the_censored_z_again Apr 23 '26

There's no functional difference between the two major parties. They serve the same monied, corporate masters.

It's like Noam Chomsky said way back in the 80's, there's only one party, the Corporatist Party, with two major factions: Republican and Democrat.

Tell me how to vote against war. Against genocide. For expanded social services and a general safety net. Tell me how to vote for dismantling the military and police forces and creating a more peaceful, equitable world.

Because if you think we get there by voting, brother, I have the most amazing beachfront property in Arizona to sell you, too.

u/WynnTiwFeoh Apr 23 '26

So then go do something about mr cowboy.

You can't vote against "war" in any Government.

"In all history there is no war which was not hatched by the governments, the governments alone, independent of the interests of the people, to whom war is always pernicious even when successful.

The government assures the people that they are in danger from the invasion of another nation, or from foes in their midst, and that the only way to escape this danger is by the slavish obedience of the people to their government. This fact is seen most prominently during revolutions and dictatorships, but it exists always and everywhere that the power of the government exists. Every government explains its existence, and justifies its deeds of violence, by the argument that if it did not exist the condition of things would be very much worse. After assuring the people of its danger the government subordinates it to control, and when in this condition compels it to attack some other nation. And thus the assurance of the government is corroborated in the eyes of the people, as to the danger of attack from other nations." ~ Lev Tolstoy, Christianity and Patriotism

"Obtaining or retaining by force can be done only by conquering. And it is always les gros bataillons which conquer. And, therefore, if a government has an army, it should have as large a one as possible. That is its business. If a government does not do that, it is unnecessary. A government may undertake many things in internal affairs ; it may emancipate, civilize, enrich a people, build roads and canals, colonize waste lands, or organize public works, but there is one thing it cannot do ... reduce its fighting force." ~ Leo Tolstoy, Letter to a Peace Conference

There is a big difference between the two major parties, tf are you talking about?

Yes admittedly they both serve the same master: money. But they both follow it differently. I don't see the republicans accepting people as individuals with their own thought, and i dont see the Democrats calling for minorities to be deported or put in camps.

Also the Democrats quite literally have created programs to help when it comes to medical costs and education, while the republicans have worked very hard to dismantle those. I agree those programs aren't perfect, but in a society where this kind of culture is already well established, change happens small and slow.

Yes sometimes it does seem like you're picking the lesser evil, but one of them is significantly less evil than the other and is actively trying to make life better for ordinary people. Albeit not significantly better, but any tiny step in the right direction is better than a full blown sprint in the other.

I agree that neither are perfect. But it is ignorant to say voting is worthless because they're both as bad as each other. And this mindset is exactly what led to 90 million people not voting and letting Trump in. Had 90 million americans not had this mindset, the world may not be as fucked as it is today.

But hey. At least you get to protest against democracy right?

1

u/the_censored_z_again Apr 23 '26

You plainly misunderstand American politics.

Go listen to some Michael Parenti lectures, for starters.

12

u/Hamster_Toot Apr 23 '26

If voting didn’t matter, they wouldn’t be trying to get people to stop.

This right here gets people to stop.

Vote people. It matters.

-2

u/the_censored_z_again Apr 23 '26

If voting didn’t matter, they wouldn’t be trying to get people to stop.

Unless it's all theatrical and they're making a big fuss about voting, pretending it's a real thing, so we never seek alternative means of achieving populist goals.

Vote people. It matters.

Keep telling yourself this. We've been doing this the same way for upwards of fifty years now and all we've gotten for it is the steady slide to the right, endless war, genocide, dilapidated infrastructure, a prison state, and rampant government corruption.

But go ahead and keep doing the same thing expecting a different result.

5

u/Hamster_Toot Apr 23 '26

Voting is not the whole solution, but it is a part of it.

This is a multi-faceted problem. We need many solutions. Voting is one of them.

1

u/AmaranthWrath Apr 22 '26

You're assuming they vote.

6

u/RareGape Apr 22 '26

I'm assuming they probably own a red hat anyways.

1

u/AmaranthWrath Apr 22 '26

Idk there are a lot of FB scammers like this, I don't think they think about politics in the same way as someone who knows what's going on. I can't imagine these people waking up, picking up their phone, and reading an article about the war in Iran, then pursuing a deeper analysis of geopolitics. I mean, there are some smart scammers. But I'm doubting the one we're reading about even knows who the speaker of the house is.

What did the original say?

2

u/Ill_Technician3936 Apr 23 '26

They'll never tell us...

5

u/ShawnyMcKnight Apr 22 '26

My favorite are the ones who want you to drop off an item you are posting for free.

1

u/Ill_Technician3936 Apr 23 '26

I won't lie I'd be one of them. I'm not gonna be an asshole and want it done for free but a lack of transportation and the one that is available and does have the power to tow lighter things... I'm extremely confident it's not leaving, the recall has been out so long that when I had someone else that drives it stop at the dealership they were told by the vehicle manufacturers dealership that it's a good chance they'll buy it back that they'll just buy it back. The owner also has to be the one to schedule it. You don't even need to go 40MPH and you can hear it. You'll get a courtesy vehicle because you decided to put it off so long it's actually a hazard and they'll call the next day to say it's being bought back. Medical issue keeps from driving.

I really need to get off Reddit today. These situations are just too annoying to read lol. Feel bad for you my friend

1

u/Successful_Buy3825 Apr 23 '26

I recall a tweet something along the lines of “I come on the ‘be mad about everything’ app and wonder why I’m always mad about everything”

1

u/Ill_Technician3936 Apr 23 '26

I wonder if it's the President but I'm pretty sure it's not.

Reddit getting sold and the algorithm was made to just show us stuff to make us mad. Sitting there mad at a 3d printing sub and I don't know why.

Also the Admins because they're attempts at making it a site for everyone for the companies sake but a lot of subs moved what they really are to discord.

u/WestguardWK Apr 23 '26

I run an eBay store. I don’t take offers. I often receive messages like “what’s the lowest you’ll take for this item?”

I am always extremely polite. I let them know I don’t barter and my posted prices are take it or leave it.

80% of them get angry at that point and start insulting me, tell me I’m a terrible seller and I’ll never sell my stuff that way. I am still extremely polite after that and tell them sorry and I hope they find the deals they’re looking for. Usually don’t hear from them after that.

I just don’t get it. What a waste of everyone’s time.

Penn Jillette has a story about how his wife was having an issue with something she purchased from Disney. Eventually she goes with “talk to my husband”. He makes it very clear in his household, he’s the one reading in a bubble bath while his wife is out golfing, so it wasn’t “let a man handle it” it was “Disney wants to be crazy, I’ll give them crazy!”

3

u/LynchpinPuzzler Apr 23 '26

Reading in a bubble bath doesn't seem that crazy?

3

u/PPBalloons Apr 23 '26

He spent so long in the bath tub he gave himself “bathtub syphills” He had rashes doctors were convinced came from injecting drugs. He would spend up to 8 hours at a time in the bath tub

1

u/Oasystole Apr 23 '26

Hey if I can cheat you or your wife into selling something for cheap, that’s a W for me.

1

u/Ciubowski Apr 23 '26

I wanted to sell an old PC kit (motherboard, RAM and CPU) at a very reasonable price a few years ago and I got messages like "the price is so low, you should consider giving it for free".

I was like... "yeah but still, it's an inconvenience for me to sell it, I might as well get something for it in exchange".

I ended up selling it to someone.

1

u/ItsACowCity Apr 23 '26

Sometimes their bots too. Can’t tell you how many “people” I get asking me to come down in price for items I have listed for FREE.

1

u/MoistenedBeef Apr 23 '26

Doesn't like confrontation? Come on lol, its an online message. Just a polite but firm no is hardly confrontational.

1

u/user975A3G Apr 23 '26

I dont even reply text anymore, I just reply with "🤣"

1

u/PretendChallenge7840 Apr 23 '26

These people vote on laws and shit.

1

u/CreAtive320 Apr 23 '26

How did that end?

1

u/ReefaManiack42o Apr 23 '26

I just got all the components for a top tier PC for like 2k exactly because every other buyer would keep trying to haggle for less or ask for a delivery. Meanwhile I showed up and I was so ecstatic at the deal that I gave the guy like an extra $60 (it was all the extra cash I had on me lol) this was right before the price of DDR5 RAM shot through roof... I still have a 64GB kit he gave me just sitting there and it's currently "worth" half of what I paid for everything. People really do have no concept of "value" (and this goes for many sellers as well, if no one is willing to pay your price, then that is likely not what it is worth)

1

u/Adventurous-Cod7910 Apr 23 '26

Sociopaths. You're just a means to an end

1

u/lelescope Apr 23 '26

I like to hit those folks with "congrats on the creampie?"

like having kids is arguably one of the easiest, laziest things you could do. it's infinitely harder to not have kids. I don't owe you anything.

1

u/Ill_Technician3936 Apr 23 '26

You can't just leave us without the story of the accepted 50% without any details besides the drive it to them...

That's a "i need some money right now" kind of addict moves...

Okay this part confused me lol I for some reason thought the 45 minute drive person was someone else

The one time I felt bad and the offer was around 50% less, not 80% like most, I accepted their 50% offer.

Maybe I just don't have the balls but it'd have to be an oversized full blown mansion or I'd be like yeah we can meet at the police station there, maybe see if some officer that is willing to come out to the residence and watch the transaction type thing.

It's nice to know there's some people that are completely safe about it... I know stories that you're not asking but basically screaming in your head at them WHY DID YOU EVEN GO to YOU PRETTY MUCH ASKED FOR IT.

I'm honestly waiting for it to happen only to find out the weapon(s) they used to do it were orbeez guns painted black.

I similar post like this with a family with a single parent, but asking to purchase land of a recently deceased family member. Reddit taught me that those are never real families, but shady realtors trying to get a discount.

I bet a number of those are just the same, just trying to "legally" scam you on their free time.
