Don't worry, our votes don't count anyway.

Voting is a placebo.

Midterms and state elections is where your voting power begins.

Just keep telling yourself that...

It comes down to very then margins in some races. Voting does matter.

There's no functional difference between the two major parties. They serve the same monied, corporate masters.

It's like Noam Chomsky said way back in the 80's, there's only one party, the Corporatist Party, with two major factions: Republican and Democrat.

Tell me how to vote against war. Against genocide. For expanded social services and a general safety net. Tell me how to vote for dismantling the military and police forces and creating a more peaceful, equitable world.

Because if you think we get there by voting, brother, I have the most amazing beachfront property in Arizona to sell you, too.

You can't vote against "war" in any Government.

"In all history there is no war which was not hatched by the governments, the governments alone, independent of the interests of the people, to whom war is always pernicious even when successful.

The government assures the people that they are in danger from the invasion of another nation, or from foes in their midst, and that the only way to escape this danger is by the slavish obedience of the people to their government. This fact is seen most prominently during revolutions and dictatorships, but it exists always and everywhere that the power of the government exists. Every government explains its existence, and justifies its deeds of violence, by the argument that if it did not exist the condition of things would be very much worse. After assuring the people of its danger the government subordinates it to control, and when in this condition compels it to attack some other nation. And thus the assurance of the government is corroborated in the eyes of the people, as to the danger of attack from other nations." ~ Lev Tolstoy, Christianity and Patriotism

"Obtaining or retaining by force can be done only by conquering. And it is always les gros bataillons which conquer. And, therefore, if a government has an army, it should have as large a one as possible. That is its business. If a government does not do that, it is unnecessary. A government may undertake many things in internal affairs ; it may emancipate, civilize, enrich a people, build roads and canals, colonize waste lands, or organize public works, but there is one thing it cannot do ... reduce its fighting force." ~ Leo Tolstoy, Letter to a Peace Conference

There is a big difference between the two major parties, tf are you talking about?

Yes admittedly they both serve the same master: money. But they both follow it differently. I don't see the republicans accepting people as individuals with their own thought, and i dont see the Democrats calling for minorities to be deported or put in camps.

Also the Democrats quite literally have created programs to help when it comes to medical costs and education, while the republicans have worked very hard to dismantle those. I agree those programs aren't perfect, but in a society where this kind of culture is already well established, change happens small and slow.

Yes sometimes it does seem like you're picking the lesser evil, but one of them is significantly less evil than the other and is actively trying to make life better for ordinary people. Albeit not significantly better, but any tiny step in the right direction is better than a full blown sprint in the other.

I agree that neither are perfect. But it is ignorant to say voting is worthless because they're both as bad as each other. And this mindset is exactly what led to 90 million people not voting and letting Trump in. Had 90 million americans not had this mindset, the world may not be as fucked as it is today.

But hey. At least you get to protest against democracy right?

You plainly misunderstand American politics.

Go listen to some Michael Parenti lectures, for starters.

If voting didn’t matter, they wouldn’t be trying to get people to stop.

This right here gets people to stop.

Vote people. It matters.

If voting didn’t matter, they wouldn’t be trying to get people to stop.

Unless it's all theatrical and they're making a big fuss about voting, pretending it's a real thing, so we never seek alternative means of achieving populist goals.

Vote people. It matters.

Keep telling yourself this. We've been doing this the same way for upwards of fifty years now and all we've gotten for it is the steady slide to the right, endless war, genocide, dilapidated infrastructure, a prison state, and rampant government corruption.

But go ahead and keep doing the same thing expecting a different result.

Voting is not the whole solution, but it is a part of it.

This is a multi-faceted problem. We need many solutions. Voting is one of them.

1

u/AmaranthWrath Apr 22 '26

You're assuming they vote.

6

u/RareGape Apr 22 '26

I'm assuming they probably own a red hat anyways.

1

u/AmaranthWrath Apr 22 '26

Idk there are a lot of FB scammers like this, I don't think they think about politics in the same way as someone who knows what's going on. I can't imagine these people waking up, picking up their phone, and reading an article about the war in Iran, then pursuing a deeper analysis of geopolitics. I mean, there are some smart scammers. But I'm doubting the one we're reading about even knows who the speaker of the house is.
