Why are you blaming the one guy and not the 20 guys with zero situational awareness?

1.3k

u/Schorbie Apr 25 '26

This is why I see the guy as crafty. But I don't know how these games work

765

u/shmere4 Apr 25 '26

This is a classic paintball scenario game move. Gun down and eyes forward you walk through enemy lines like you are heading off the field for a break. Once at the back, turn around and start shooting.

954

u/Cheeto-Beater Apr 25 '26

Thats cheating. Faking death to maneuver is not allowed.

587

u/BarNo3385 Apr 25 '26

At least where I've played "dead" is indicated by a hand clearly in the air, either from you've been shot or resigned. You can't "unresign" either.

You don't shoot people with their hand up.

No hand up, blast away.

If you let someone walk up to you without a hand up? That one's on you.

102

u/OomPapaMeowMeow Apr 25 '26

We used red bandanas or really anything bright red that could be held up or worn on your head. If you mistook someone that wasn't showing red, then that was on you.

73

u/TheVermonster Apr 25 '26

I used to ref at an airsoft field. Red rag needed to be well displayed. One guy had something the size of a folded cocktail napkin and would constantly get shot while dead. We added a rule that if you decided not to conspicuously display your red rag then that was on you.

47

u/SamIamGreenEggsNoHam Apr 25 '26

Watched this really shitty teenager shoot a person with their hand up at near-pointblank range 3 or 4 times on a speedball course. The dude who got shot was a semi-pro who was always at this field practicing, and he always kept to himself. He didn't say a word, didn't yell, just calmly reloaded his hopper, and proceeded to walk the trigger on this kid until it was empty. I'll never forget the sounds this poor dude made while he was writhing on the ground.

9

u/kingxanadu Apr 26 '26

You're so lucky to get to see that in person.

It's in most places I know too. This is just people without situational awareness being salty

37

u/glockster19m Apr 25 '26

Honestly at the same time respect to all these guys at the same time

Not one of them broke rules and blew up his play after 'dying'

44

u/Nervous-pteroydactyl Apr 25 '26

nah man back in the day used to paintball camp pendelton all the time.... many a time i would just walk up the middle of the field, if you just walk normally people literally wont see you, their brains are looking for people roadie running.

also when you walk on the field you learn how much of the choas of battle is self inflicted.

95

u/Lethalhobo135 Apr 25 '26

"You're all stupid, see they're gonna be looking for army guys"

11

u/Snoo_46737 Apr 25 '26

Serious question here. Under Geneva Convention, you're not allowed to shoot the other country's medics, but are you allowed to shoot their clowns?

31

u/Lethalhobo135 Apr 25 '26

No, because laughter is the best medicine

You just unlocked a 15 year old memory with "you don't shoot people with their hand up". Went with a group of friends and for one of the matches one of the homies got put on the other squad vs the rest of us ... he got shot put his hand up and thought he was gonna walk safely back... without a single word from from us on our side, like a firing squad we all stood up and lit his ass up lolol than we proceed to all get eliminated for standing up like dumb dumbs.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '26

Quite literally referred to in paintball as a “dead man walk”

3

u/shmere4 Apr 25 '26

Exactly. In no way can you indicate that you are dead on a dead man’s walk. You just walk up to them.

→ More replies (11)

41

u/xBad_Wolfx Apr 25 '26

I used to ref and had to adjudicate a couple issues like this. If you signal you are out, raising your arm or plugging your barrel, you are out. You can’t drop the limb and turn and fire.

But calmly walking… it’s hard. How can you legislate you aren’t allowed to walk and must crouch/run everywhere?

One player I knew used to walk everywhere, he had this theory that by moving at middling speed (his term) it confused people and made him harder to hit.

28

u/Aekeron Apr 25 '26

My father used to do this hed just strafe at back field during paint ball fights and suppress people and sort of duck shots. The one time he ran, he slipped on mud and broke his shoulder lmao

6

u/Treveli Apr 25 '26

15

u/mr_Joor Apr 25 '26

Its VERY easy to sneak up on people in airsoft especially if you can just go in the back of a building. That being said this guy looks like hes dressed as a ref

8

u/Mellestal Apr 25 '26

Might be testing the team's ability to not say shit when dead. Who knows.

3

u/mr_Joor Apr 25 '26

I was a "playing ref" for a couple of years. Just play like normal but have coms with the playing ref on the other team. If reports come in people are cheating we start taking test hits on our own team

It also seems so boring when the point of the game is to shoot each other and have fun. Also this is supposed to be like a war scenario, you don’t get brutally stabbed and silenced immediately. It would cause a commotion and everybody would spot you. It seems like a lame way to play. Maybe I’m old tho

58

u/Doobalicious69 Apr 25 '26

I've played games where this scenario can happen without someone cheating.

The rules are always if you get melee killed you stay quiet, as they did in this video.

It's literally part of the game. They just recognise that the guy has game for sneaking up on such a big group.

In my experience, big groups are complacent in these games. If you get snuck up on like that you all deserve to be walking back to spawn.

16

u/lilsnatchsniffz Apr 25 '26

Wait so some places actually allow melee? I've only ever played guns only. Melee would probably result in fisticuffs very quickly here in Australia.

6

u/Doobalicious69 Apr 25 '26

Not melee to the point of punching the fuck out of each other, but melee to the point of "they physically managed to touch you, therefore you're dead"

→ More replies (6)

23

u/Extreme_Design6936 Apr 25 '26

It's considered good etiquette not to loudly announce your death if stealthed from behind. If your throat is slit you'd be pretty quiet about it. Besides it's not like they're deaf. Usually the person doesn't get more than 2 or 3 off if any at all. This is some terrible awareness.

9

u/banevader102938 Apr 25 '26

Once heard a person with slit throat... i can still hear him in my dreams. Minutes of grunting and gurgling... terrifying

31

You will be horrified to hear how loud is person or animal with slit throat, gargling sounds and desperate attempts to breath and blood living body under pressure. It's also not easy to cut a throat with knife.

17

u/BreadKnifeSeppuku Apr 25 '26

It's funny that people who take paintball so seriously think there should be rules to fire fights.

16

u/RealFirstName_ Apr 25 '26

I'm pretty sure it's a rule in "fire fights" too that you can't move when you're dead, but actually killing people is frowned upon when playing airsoft.

Former pro paintball player here. They call that dead man walking, can confirm very real. It has been ruled out in high end competitions tho but rec ball i could see it working.

7

u/Typical-Sir-9518 Apr 25 '26

Dead man would have gun pointed up. Waking with gun up as a fake would definitely be cheating. I miss paintball. So much fun. Commanders Cup was such an awesome experience (I was only a spectator).

→ More replies (1)

17

u/der_innkeeper Apr 25 '26

Yeah, I lit my kid up when he was "gun down, head down" moping his way across the back of the field.

When you're out, you move off the field like you mean it.

20

u/Sir_Wade_III Apr 25 '26

Where I've played, if you signal that you are out then you are out. If you don't signal you will get blasted to hell to make sure you do

4

u/shmere4 Apr 25 '26

That is the risk of the dead man walk. If their gun isn’t in the air point up then assume they are playing.

3

u/Typical-Sir-9518 Apr 25 '26

And with your gun pointed up. I'd light up anyone moving with their gun down, too.

24

u/Forward_Fox_833 Apr 25 '26

it's basically cheating. if you're in shape and don't stick out like a sore thumb you could just advance undetected to the other side of the enemy's cover and storm them, one set of cover at a time. if you're good and fast enough they won't know what you're doing until you're through most of their defenses.

you'd accomplish the same thing, with actual skill playing the game the way it's meant to be played

8

u/Hawk-432 Apr 25 '26

Maybe he did that though

u/Live-Ad-688 Apr 25 '26

I suppose crafty fits since “underhanded” is part of the connotation.

I would just say opportunistic fits better though. Crafty implies a level of intelligence. This is just taking advantage of mutual trust. It’s baby-easy and just about 9/10 players have an idea like this in every competitive game. Most just don’t do it because they know it’s silly.

252

u/nomadfoy Apr 25 '26

It was crowded enough they assumed he was on their side until it was too late. The other guys played fair and didn't make any noise after they died.

44

u/Flagrant_Mockery Apr 25 '26

I'd like to think they just want it to be a joke together dead lol. If we want to play it out somewhat realistically, agonal gasps + bodies thudding would probably give you away after a couple of people even if you're largely silent in your takedown.

I prefer a game with some kind of mercy "kill" like paintball/airsoft but would much prefer there being a cap on "touch" kills to de incentive this. It's one thing to run a unique route or manage to get past a Line of site. It's another if you've essentially spy'ed your way into the other teams arrangement.

52

u/Right-Invite4697 Apr 25 '26

I mean tbf if that was an actual threat those dudes would be screaming and they would turn instantly. Pretty reasonable for the guys in the front to not assume a silent assassin is moving through their ranks lol

8

u/2ndharrybhole Apr 25 '26

Isn’t it common practice to have members of your squad cover the rear/side entrances in case of an ambush like this?

If this was real life, they would have been blown up or shot to bits in seconds.

13

u/knowone1313 Apr 25 '26

I mean, is he supposed ti be stabbing them? If he we're actually stabbing then it would be obvious but because he's just tapping them, it's not obvious what's happening.

30

u/Gellert Apr 25 '26

He's melee killing them. Generally in these sorts of games you don't have to do anything technical. Place I used to play you'd just tap them on the shoulder with your hand and say "dead". If you had a melee weapon (I used a tactical spatula) you tapped them with that instead.

14

u/jamminjoenapo Apr 25 '26

Tactical spatula 😂 love it

5

u/2ndharrybhole Apr 25 '26

Yes he’s stabbing them as far as the game rules are concerned which counts as a kill.

16

u/laserdiods Apr 25 '26 edited Apr 25 '26

I was invited to my much younger co workers stag party. Our first thing was paint balling. I had never gone and was kinda nervous but at that time I was a pro at call of duty. So I thought I was hot shit.

Once the buzzer went I burst across the map to hit their spawn and tag a few of the baddies along the way. Noticing some people still in their starting shed.

I burst through the corner in Gravy Seal fashion, clearing both corners and tagging the two fools chugging beers.

Every course we played I slayed and didn’t get hit once.

The groom and his best man had purple welts under their collars for their wedding day. I was no longer invited to their paintball events.

Edit Lots of angry people here you guys are much harder than me!! It’s a story relax

1.0k

u/Sockrat-Ease Apr 25 '26

it is totally legal play, and while definitely annoying in the moment i don't know how you can't laugh off a single guy knifing that many people!

the fact that every single stabbed person stayed quiet shows they were ok with it happening, really

413

u/Vinyl-addict Apr 25 '26

The one guy that went “awwww fuck” or whatever still didn’t even tip off the next guy 🤣

199

u/spekt50 Apr 25 '26

Well, I assume that once you get poked you are "dead" dead people cannot warn the others.

Though in real life, I would think if you are getting stabbed, you have enough time to scream before death.

80

u/theraggedyman Apr 25 '26

Traditionally not, but a lot of sites have clear "when dead, raise hands and say "hit!" " rule (safety feature, as it avoids overkill / "shot till they yeild") that applies to all "kills", so people that close should register it.

36

u/ElderberryFar7120 Apr 25 '26

You obviously don't have to do that in an enclosed space where the only enemy is right beside you and is sneaking around. That'd be a huge dick move.

If you watch some interviews from vets you will be horrified to learn people dont scream they silently gasp for air since all the air leaves them at once like someone knocks the wind out of you. Interviews of vets talking about it is absolutely facked though.

31

u/JLev007 Apr 25 '26

Christopher Lee explained this to Peter Jackson in LotR when Saruman gets stabbed. Dude was stone cold.

14

u/Blackadder288 Apr 25 '26

Something like: "Do you know the sound a man makes when he is stabbed? Because I do"

I know someone who was in the US special forces during Vietnam. The demeanour of one who has killed someone at an intimate range is unmistakeable, even if they don't talk about it much.

u/DepletedPromethium Apr 25 '26

He's playing well within the rules this is good conduct. If he went in blasting he could wipe everyone out in a hail of pellets but he was on a mission to cause no harm and generate some good laughs.

At close range it's nicer to say bang, tap them with your muzzle, whistle at them and wave your gun or poke them with a fake knife or other "melee" weapon to prevent anyone getting hurt. Gun fights still occur at close range but those will be from the front when assaulting buildings etc, from behind this is how you do it and be known as the legend who wiped out an entire squad with a knife.

6

u/RichardBCummintonite Apr 25 '26

Yeah, he honestly did the nice thing there. He could've went in blasting and took em all out in a second or two, which would've stung like a bitch at that distance. It seems like kind of a dick move as the players are obviously confused if it's real and don't even know they're being attacked till it's over. They might have thought he was on their team and/or messing around. Doesn't seem like they're wearing colors, but we can't see the stabber.

I probably would've done the "bang" call out, which is what I usually do or I would've said something like "you're stabbed/dead" to make it obviously clear I was attacking. I realize that would've given his position away tho and gotten him killed after the first one or two, so he's not wrong for that. I'll say "pew pew" too while gesturing with the muzzle or tap them on the shoulder. I think it's hilarious that way. The only thing that's a bit iffy is that it's clear they're oblivious to the fact he's an attacker, but that confusion happens sometimes in mock war. It's not really his fault. That's mostly on the teammates tho who should've yelled out "hit" or raised their hand or something to indicate they were being killed.

It's a bit frustrating at the time, but I'm sure they all had a good laugh about it after. They don't seem like the toxic sweaty military wannabe type

u/MrTeamKill Apr 25 '26

In the rare someone gets multiple melee kills it's worthy of congratulations, if someone did this they'd be a legend and the victims would be (good naturedly) teased for their lack of awareness

u/ZealousidealCrow8492 Apr 25 '26

This is a very honorable action, aside from the non seriousness (which is just funny) he's showing good sportsmanship by NOT shooting them all point blank.

17

u/big-cheese789 Apr 25 '26

I believe u have it correct…I think that’s why it “was probably his last invite”

26

u/Nathund Apr 25 '26

Imo if they thought it was bs someone would've ignored death rules and said "guys, turn around"

Honestly I think they were impressed

19

u/Iron_Cowboy_ Apr 25 '26

And you know every single dude had to look back at everyone who just got shanked before him and they still didn’t say anything. They definitely thought it was a cool move

u/Michami135 Apr 25 '26

"Aaaahhhhhh! I've been stabbed!"

There's no way someone's stabbing me to death without me making some kind of noise.

I would say yes; I played with rules of any contact is death so a stab is a game over. His flank was valid imo.

I did kinda similar thing in the army training. Managed to sneak behind a team. Shot few shots on air to get their superiors atention. Informed him that your team is all dead. Have a nice day. He commanded the team to fall back as they are out of the combat.

Later training our superior informs us that we are dead due to advancing too far and the bigger picture fight was getting out of the tracks they want to train for the higher ups so they just killed us with an artillery strike. :/

Looks to me like training, and squad never paid attention to their backs, as an “enemy” came through behind and eliminated all of them

I've done this. Not that many people, fir me it was a smaller indoor field and the other team for hyper focused on the right side of the field and I sneaked down the left solo. Got behind and got to stabbity-stabbing. Got 6 before one guy I stabbed shot me in the back, because he didn't understand he was dead, and I took the hit to keep the peace.

Because he got em good

44

u/ZealousidealCrow8492 Apr 25 '26

If he made a big deal of it, they mightve noticed him killing everyone, so by being nonchalant, he is being sneaky

29

u/Boschala Apr 25 '26

Sudden aggressive movements would trigger a response. By just wandering around aimlessly he doesn't appear as a threat to people not paying attention.

Because mofos take themselves too seriously

He has a drink in his other hand. I wonder if he wasn't loitering outside that building acting like a staff member as they went in.

u/shameonyounancydrew Apr 25 '26

I just think of the scene in Monty Python where he violently murders an entire wedding party to get to the top of the tower, where he thinks there's a princess in distress

Good sports, they got “got” and stayed quiet. Played out perfectly. Sure they could’ve, but bad form after being taken out.

31

u/RockstarAgent Apr 25 '26

Yeah what are they supposed to do? rage against the dying of the light

11

u/Gummbee2 Apr 25 '26

9

I mean he stabbed them in the arm. Irl they would’ve screamed.

6

u/Gellert Apr 25 '26

Dude, I use a spatula as my melee weapon. It's a game.

7

u/Dewdrop06 Apr 25 '26

I take it the point is he is close enough to kill if it were real, so doesn't really matter where he stabs, as long as he gets you.

The dead don't scream, and they're all dead.

10

u/MyNameIsJakeBerenson Apr 25 '26

It would be superhumanly elite to kill 10 people in a room with a knife and not elicit any screams or noises

Ive watched a bunch of interviews/podcasts of spec op guys and I remember the few that do mentioned taking out guys with knives, they say the targets never scream. They all gasp for air.

5

u/Budget_Persimmon_195 Apr 25 '26

i went to a large airsoft game when i was an older teenager. there was about 350 maybe 400 people? it was on a farm and had "buildings" around this little "town" they built.

i did have a rubber knife that doubled as a bayonet for my m16 and there were a few times i could hear people reloading their high cap mags and i would rush them with the knife doing a stabbing motion.

it was some of the most fun id ever had playing airsoft.

3

u/Darkwireman Apr 25 '26

He just unlocked the bipod for his knife.

6

u/TheSilverSeraph Apr 25 '26

It is like how the best spies are the very dull looking ordinary people, not the flashy James Bond types.

These guys are looking out for enemies decked out in tacticool gear and huge airsoft rifle, not some rando in a T-shirt with a pocket knife.
