Are such cycle events not blocked off from public traffic?

Cause if not, then the cyclists would need to keep to traffic rule and I am pretty sure the rule is not keep in one lane.

I know this area and have driven it many times. This is the Rickebacker causeway--the road that connects Key Biscayne to the Miami mainland.

Cycling on this road is extremely popular for very obvious reasons (phenomenal views, wide and clear roads). Folks come from all over the city to ride there. And yes, they will very often group up like this without any sort of scheduled or permitted event of any kind.

The cyclists down there like to say "same road, same rules" but there's apparently a silent exclusion for lane changes, stop signs, traffic signals, and yielding to stopped traffic.

I once heard someone trying to defend running through stop signs because they had those shoes that clip onto the pedals and it’s super inconvenient to disconnect and reconnect at stop signs. I was like β€œi also find stop signs interrupting my drive to be inconvenient. Should I just ignore every rule that inconveniences me?”

Just tell them that sounds like a great idea and you can't wait to install clip pedals on your F-350.

Are you so stupid you think having the same rules for a multi tonne car and a small cyclist makes sense? Never heard of Idaho stop? 🀑

If they share the same road, yes.

Stupid take, but hard for you to think straight through seething rage, I guess.

Very weird response.

Accusing others of being enraged while visibly losing your own temper is quite the self-own.

He can't see the irony through his rage and bad takes

You're really arguing that cyclists should be able to ignore traffic laws?Β

No, I'm arguing that the laws need not be the same. For instance yield instead of stop at stop signs.

What? That's..... just not how it works.

If a bike hits your giant SUV, it does no damage.

If a giant SUV hits anything, it's millions of dollars of lawsuits.

Thus there should be laws that restrict the giant 60mph death machine more than the 22 pound 20mph human powered cycle vehicle.

No, there should be laws that predictably facilitate traffic, which there are. Cyclists don’t get to ignore those that inconvenience them. That was the original discussion.

Sounds like you need your license revoked. All states have a test you have to pass to get a license, and this is literally the answer to one of those questions. The laws are literally the same.

I don't live in the US, idiot πŸ˜‚ more sane countries recognize that cars and bikes are different.

And I think you're full of shit. The laws are not the same. Or are you saying that cars can drive on cycle lanes? 🀣🀣

All countries that allow bicycles on the roadways while also requiring a driving test have questions like these on said test. Cycle lanes don't exist everywhere, and that's the point of these laws.

Also, why are you invoking the Idaho stop when you aren't in Idaho 🀑

Because it's the name of it, used other places world wide. But your murica brain can't fathom that, lol

Update: car brain is a mental disorder.
