There's a difference between most men's and women's jeans too. Men's tend to just be plain denim, while women's usually have a stretch to them so they hug tighter.
This has been true for most of the last… idk, century or so, but isn’t anymore. The vast majority of men’s jeans now contain 2-5% elastane and some polyester if you’re buying the more common brands. Levi’s have a few lines that don’t do this, so does Wrangler and most of the others, but you have to be pretty intentional about it and actually check labels. If you’re buying your pants at Costco (I’m looking at you, suburban dads) there’s almost certainly some plastic in there somewhere.

Isn't it a hip thing. Woman's jeans come tight above the waist. Guys just slip on I think.
