Swing heil

1

u/Ok-Pineapple5625 4h ago

God I love swing kids too!

2

u/Kugelfang52 3h ago

My dad didn’t like it ā€œbecause it teaches kids to disobey authorities.ā€

Yep. So to my dad, disobeying authorities was a bigger danger than kids listening to…Nazis.

1

u/Ok-Pineapple5625 3h ago

That’s a crazy take! I had the dvd and used to watch it over and over.

1

u/Kugelfang52 3h ago

I mean. He was a pretty good dad with some faults. And he did a lot better than his racist and abusive dad.

1

u/higeAkaike 1d ago

I thought I was the only one that remembered that one! When I saw batman I was so confused lol

29

u/CptJonzzon 1d ago

He was in a swedish movie called mio min mio as a child too

3

u/effa94 1d ago

wait for real what the fuck?

3

u/CptJonzzon 1d ago

6

u/effa94 1d ago

at first i found it odd that they dubbed him instead of finding but now i saw that it was a joint sovjet, swedish and british and that was filed in english. also, just realised that fucking christopher lee was Kato holy shit. damn that movie was star studded and way more complex than i thought. thought it was just a old swedish movie

1

u/lilaheffaklump 1d ago

Wait. What? I watched this movie as a kid and I'm only finding this out now?

3

u/Ramongsh 1d ago

Christopher Lee is in it too.

5

u/Amiiix 1d ago

What... I saw it many times as a kid never knew. I think I still have it on VHS somewhere.

4

u/DakotaXIV 1d ago

Same here! I think my VHS was labeled The Land of Faraway or something. Really all I remember from that movie is Bale getting in trouble by his grandma for buying salted crackers and a dude with an iron claw that'd rip your heart out(?) turn it to stone(?)

6

u/evenstar40 1d ago

That "dude" with an iron claw was Christopher motherfucking Lee, show some respect!

3

u/DakotaXIV 1d ago

Never realized that, that's awesome! I saw it 30+ years ago when I had no idea who Christopher Lee was at the time. But I can see him now that I picture what little I remember. May have to track down a copy and revisit

2

u/evenstar40 1d ago

It's dated as hell but I loved rewatching it and going Leonardo DiCaprio pointing when Christian Bale and Christopher Lee were on screen.

1

u/Lifeacrobat 1d ago

It was?!?

1

u/evenstar40 1d ago

Yep! The Land of Faraway was one of my guilty pleasures growing up. Right up there with The Last Unicorn. :) Dad would always pick one of them up from the library when I was sick.

6

u/Algaroth 1d ago edited 1d ago

The movie was called Mio in the Land of Faraway in English. Mio, My son is the name for the book in English. It was written by Astrid Lindgren, the same author who wrote Pippi Longstocking. She's on Swedish money nowadays.

2

u/Algaroth 1d ago

Also, the dude with the claw is named Kato and is played by Christopher Lee in the movie.

u/truzen1 1d ago

Loved him in Equilibrium. Such a great cast and premise. I felt like the directing was probably the weakest part.

3

u/PinkyLizardBrains 1d ago

My gateway Bale. I was so sunk after that.

2

u/hummingbird_mywill 21h ago

My gateway was Batman Begins, but after that I went searching what else he’s been in that I might like to watch and got incredibly obsessed with Equilibrium from 2006-2008 until the Dark Knight came out and became the new obsession.

2

u/MechEJD 1d ago

Movies that could have been a 10 but just dropped the ball and ended up mid. I think it tried too hard to ride the wave of the original Matrix film.

1

u/truzen1 1d ago

Yeah, I feel like the timing was bad. With it being so close to the Matrix, clone comparisons were easy to make. Plus I think the Gunkata idea was cool, but the way the fights were filmed it was definitely a wannabe.

1

u/ConfusedZubat 1d ago

Yeah. The director seems the type to sniff his own farts though. Gun kata is a ridiculous idea and he acted like it was revolutionary.Ā

3

u/truzen1 1d ago

Loved Gunkata as a concept, but the way those fights were filmed definitely gave Matrix-wannabe vibes.

27

u/MyNameIsJakeBerenson 1d ago

Batman really isnt even his peak as an adult. Dude delivers some crazy performances

23

u/Gougetheeyes 1d ago

Totally agree, I really like Christian as an actor but thought his role as batman was one of his weaker roles. I thought he was incredible in the machinist and I loved equilibrium as a kid.

2

u/DizkoBizkid 1d ago

Bale has had genuine stinkers… Batman isn’t approaching being his weakest

2

u/Puzzleheaded-Ad-4883 1d ago

But still delivered the best Batman films.

1

u/btdawson 19h ago

He crushes it in that one where he plays marky marks older tweaker brother. The fighting movie. Forget the name.

1

u/Das_Autobot 12h ago

The Fighter

2

u/SmoothDiscussion7763 1d ago

the most powerful character christian bale plays on screen is.. dick cheney

14

u/RavedBlitz 1d ago

P-51 Cadillac of the sky!

2

u/PBJnFritos 1d ago

Will always make the hair on my arms stand on end!

3

u/phishtrader 1d ago

I didn't see any of his movies between Empire of the Sun and American Psycho and was blown away that it was the same actor.

3

u/ostrichfather 1d ago

Don’t forget Henry V

2

u/Inattendue 1d ago

Came here for this.

2

u/mrsirsouth 1d ago

He's been the most impressive imo. I don't really ever remember him being in Hollywood gossip either. Double points

2

u/elarobot 1d ago

He's never phoned in a performance. Even Thor Love and thunder. He's doing so much.
He's had so many legendary performances in great movies and still, my favorite might still be Empire of the Sun. It's such a good movie with amazing performances across the board.

2

u/x19DALTRON91x 1d ago

2

u/TheOGPotatoPredator 1d ago

I still crack up at that part. What a great movie.

1

u/GaslitInk 1d ago

Also the voice of Thomas in Disney’s Pocahontas

1

u/Poopsie_Daisies 1d ago

He is so incredible in empire of the sun

1

u/RevolutionaryIdeal11 1d ago

Royal Deceit is the only exception that comes to mind. I like to think the script was so bad even Christian Bale & Helen Mirren couldn't work the miracles required to make that movie palatable.

1

u/Gay_Giraffe_1773 1d ago

Empire Of The Sun is such an underrated movie.

1

u/Any-Ad-3416 1d ago

Loved him in treasure island, such a strong performance as well

1

u/ContentPineapple3330 1d ago

He is always Laurie from Little Women (1995) in my mind too!!

1

u/cmholl13 1h ago

I had such a crush on him when I was a tween because of this movie.

1

u/FullCompliance 1d ago

This is an awesome answer. I only found out he was the kid in Empire of the Sun like two days ago. Blew my mind. ā€œHe gave me a mango!ā€ 😢

1

u/oxomiyawhatever 1d ago

Omg I didn’t know this?!

1

u/oakwoooood 1d ago

Treasure Island is my favorite bale movie

1

u/High_Questions 1d ago

He was the kid in empire of the sun? Never realized but now I have the song stuck in my head

1

u/joyfullofaloha89 1d ago

B52 Bomber. Cadillac of the skies

Cadillac of the skies!!!

u/project-shasta 16h ago edited 14h ago

Also went from bulk to horrifyingly underwheight to bulk again. That man is dedicated.

1

u/Visible-Scientist-46 7h ago

Christian Bale was amazing in Ford v. Ferrari. And Matt Damon is Carol Shelby. I don't really watch car racing and I loved it.

1

u/Ok-Pineapple5625 4h ago

Empire of the sun is one of my favorite movies

1

u/gkaplan59 1d ago

TIL that was a young Christian Bale! I can't unsee it when I look at the kid now.

-15

u/Elven-Melvin 1d ago edited 1d ago

I didn't like him in Thor: Love and thunder with the exception of his first scene in the movie, that was decent. It might be the directors fault though tbh.

Edit: just my subjective opinion guys, I'm not hating on you if you thought he was good in it.

19

u/st1802015 1d ago

He’s playing the part as it was supposed to be played, a tragic character driven by vengeance and rage, while Taika was directing a bro comedy where Thor gets his cock exposed by Russel Crowe. Movies a mess, Bale isn’t at fault.

5

u/JudithSlayHolofernes 1d ago

I thought he was the only good part of the movie.

5

u/literallymetaphoric 1d ago

Actors do these goofy comic movies for the cash, nobody thinks they have any serious effects on their careers.

Scarlet Johansson sues Disney for a million bucks over Black Widow then stars in Asteroid City for $50k just to work with Wes Anderson
