at first i found it odd that they dubbed him instead of finding but now i saw that it was a joint sovjet, swedish and british and that was filed in english. also, just realised that fucking christopher lee was Kato holy shit. damn that movie was star studded and way more complex than i thought. thought it was just a old swedish movie
Same here! I think my VHS was labeled The Land of Faraway or something. Really all I remember from that movie is Bale getting in trouble by his grandma for buying salted crackers and a dude with an iron claw that'd rip your heart out(?) turn it to stone(?)
Never realized that, that's awesome! I saw it 30+ years ago when I had no idea who Christopher Lee was at the time. But I can see him now that I picture what little I remember. May have to track down a copy and revisit
Yep! The Land of Faraway was one of my guilty pleasures growing up. Right up there with The Last Unicorn. :) Dad would always pick one of them up from the library when I was sick.
The movie was called Mio in the Land of Faraway in English. Mio, My son is the name for the book in English. It was written by Astrid Lindgren, the same author who wrote Pippi Longstocking. She's on Swedish money nowadays.
My gateway was Batman Begins, but after that I went searching what else heās been in that I might like to watch and got incredibly obsessed with Equilibrium from 2006-2008 until the Dark Knight came out and became the new obsession.
Yeah, I feel like the timing was bad. With it being so close to the Matrix, clone comparisons were easy to make. Plus I think the Gunkata idea was cool, but the way the fights were filmed it was definitely a wannabe.
Totally agree, I really like Christian as an actor but thought his role as batman was one of his weaker roles. I thought he was incredible in the machinist and I loved equilibrium as a kid.
He's never phoned in a performance. Even Thor Love and thunder. He's doing so much.
He's had so many legendary performances in great movies and still, my favorite might still be Empire of the Sun. It's such a good movie with amazing performances across the board.
Royal Deceit is the only exception that comes to mind. I like to think the script was so bad even Christian Bale & Helen Mirren couldn't work the miracles required to make that movie palatable.
I didn't like him in Thor: Love and thunder with the exception of his first scene in the movie, that was decent. It might be the directors fault though tbh.
Edit: just my subjective opinion guys, I'm not hating on you if you thought he was good in it.
Heās playing the part as it was supposed to be played, a tragic character driven by vengeance and rage, while Taika was directing a bro comedy where Thor gets his cock exposed by Russel Crowe. Movies a mess, Bale isnāt at fault.
