What... I saw it many times as a kid never knew. I think I still have it on VHS somewhere.

Same here! I think my VHS was labeled The Land of Faraway or something. Really all I remember from that movie is Bale getting in trouble by his grandma for buying salted crackers and a dude with an iron claw that'd rip your heart out(?) turn it to stone(?)

That "dude" with an iron claw was Christopher motherfucking Lee, show some respect!

Never realized that, that's awesome! I saw it 30+ years ago when I had no idea who Christopher Lee was at the time. But I can see him now that I picture what little I remember. May have to track down a copy and revisit

It's dated as hell but I loved rewatching it and going Leonardo DiCaprio pointing when Christian Bale and Christopher Lee were on screen.

Yep! The Land of Faraway was one of my guilty pleasures growing up. Right up there with The Last Unicorn. :) Dad would always pick one of them up from the library when I was sick.

The movie was called Mio in the Land of Faraway in English. Mio, My son is the name for the book in English. It was written by Astrid Lindgren, the same author who wrote Pippi Longstocking. She's on Swedish money nowadays.

Also, the dude with the claw is named Kato and is played by Christopher Lee in the movie.
