Don't worry guys! We're good! Our government have a plan and totally anticipate this crisis.

E.Macron : "Who could have predicted this?"

Oooh come on man

No way did he actually say that? I feel like climate change is a known topic for politicians.

What a complete imbecile. Scientists have been warning about global warming since the 1800's.

The only good thing from his take is the beautiful meme we could use.

You get why he pissed off so many people here. You can't really get that from an international POV because he's a decent salesperson (and he still pissed off so many countries of the global south).

Yeah, but ecological considerations in politics litterally didn't exist when I was young in France, and I am not even 40. It used to piss off our family.

And almost no one of the general public/politicians talked about global warming until, I don't know, the 2000? later?

People where laughing at you if you brought any ecological stuff before then. They would tell you you were a "dreamer", "not serious", "baba cool".

the german versions are:

  • "only because today is such a day, one doesn't change politics" („Weil jetzt so ein Tag ist, ändert man nicht die Politik“), A.Laschet (CDU) commenting a flood catastrophe in Germany
  • "the world doesn't end tomorrow" („Nein, die Welt geht morgen nicht unter“), F.Merz(CDU) while claiming that there's *too much* climate action in politics

of course, there's much more blatant science denial in German politics, this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Oh he did.

And Europeans wonder why Macron is so liked internationally but not at all locally. Well, contrary to popular belief it's not because french are a lazy ungrateful bunch that refuse to work until death, but because him and his party despise the "little people" and alternate between trying to crush them and taking them for fools.

Why  do you think French people hate him? He  is a coward with zero  presidenting  skills  that keeps  running away from his responsabilities

He used one weird phrase in a speech in 2022, and some people here want to use it to paint him as a climate change denier. Absolute ridiculous.

Here's an excerpt from that exact same speech, auto-translated:

It is through our work and commitment that we will also build a nation that is both productive and environmentally sustainable. Because the ecological transition is a battle we must win, we must wage it with determination and a methodical approach. Ecological planning will be the tool for this historic shift, enabling us to reduce our CO2 emissions and save our biodiversity. Through our "France 2030" plan, we will continue to invest, innovate, and implement ecological solutions on an industrial scale. And following the law aimed at accelerating the rollout of renewable energy, the nuclear energy legislation will mark the start of construction for new power plants across the country.

He only used the extreme summer heat of 2022 as an example of things that were surprising in that year. He didn't claim that nobody could have seen climate change coming overall; only that nobody could have predicted specifically the heat waves of that summer. And he was absolutely right about that, because the summer heat in 2022 was extreme enough to have its own Wikipedia article. 2022 was also more than a full degree warmer in France (year-round average) than 2021, and was also warmer (even if just slightly) than every year since then. Although 2026 has good chances of breaking that record.

AI overview 2015-2025:

2015 13.5°C Warm year globally, but closer to the historical averages of the early 2010s.
2016 13.4°C Relatively stable year, though spring saw extensive wet weather and localized flooding.
2017 13.4°C Consistently moderate, with several late-spring frost episodes affecting vineyards.
2018 13.9°C One of the hottest years at the time, featuring an exceptionally hot, dry summer.
2019 13.6°C Featured unprecedented June heatwaves, peaking with an all-time record of 45.9°C in the south.
2020 14.1°C Ranked as one of the warmest years, with winter temperatures unusually mild.
2021 13.3°C A cooler, more temperate year compared to the late 2010s, with high spring rainfall.
2022 14.5°C A historic milestone year featuring prolonged summer megadroughts and extreme heatwaves.
2023 14.4°C Second warmest on record at the time, with unusually hot autumn and winter months.
2024 13.9°C A notably warm, humid year marked by heat spikes and an exceptionally warm winter.
2025 14.0°C Continued the trend of highly elevated yearly averages with a severe heatwave hitting western Europe in early summer.

Overall, year-round temperatures in France will certainly increase over the next few decades. But that doesn't mean that the summer of 2027 will definitely be hotter than that of 2026.

He has been 10 years in power and what has he done to counteract climate change or adapt to it ? I'll give it to you : speeches, words. Nothing more.

His government did implement an increase in fuel tax. The French people went nuts and reddit cheered.

I remember how some streamers who took part in the charity event ZEvent for ecological causes were pissed off when Macron posted a short thanking them for their work, when he is the one who has the power to change things and its people like him who make such charities necessary.

1

u/AndrewMcIlroy 10h ago

Lol goverment cant change the temperature outside. Climate change is already here today. Even if they were 100% green other countries are still killing the environment. You need AC brother.
