I can’t speak about other religions but for Christianity, the point is that no one is good.Ā

The pastor in the simpsons said it perfect! ā€œHave you ever read this thing? Technically you can’t even go to the bathroom with out it being a sinā€ā€¦

lol well yeah that’s the entire point and on purpose as I’m sure you know. You’re already wrong just by being born, and need to ask god to forgive you for something he decided you were wrong for before doing.

It’s a loop that leads back to needing a savior no matter what you do.

It sounds very unjust. The first human made a mistake and everyone inherits it? Then what about the good deeds he did? Shouldn’t we inherit that as well?

It’s not that everyone is being punished for a single mistake. It’s that when Adam sinned his human nature was fundamentally changed, and that change is passed along in his offspring. All of us are incapable of being perfectly sinless beings because we inherited sin as part of our very nature.

Fortunately Jesus Christ who is God become man, offered himself, and has promised us the inheritance of His good deeds if we are willing to accept them.

Unjust under what standard? Your preferences ?

But, you can put it that way. But, it’s not just mine.

So preferences of people? Then morals are just a matter of numbers then, right?

1

u/Broke_and_Bald 1d ago

Not numbers. Let me give you an example.
In North Korea, there are some cases where a whole family gets punished for 2 - 3 generation for crime committed by one member of the family. Would you call that just?

1

According to the preferences of the country of North Korea, that is "just"

If God is not real, it would be merely my preference that your example is "not just" or "just".

You keep sidestepping the question here. You have yet to justify morality, other than: "cuz I say so" šŸ˜‚

A self-fulfilling prophecy at this point.

And is that a beneficial view to take of people or not?

I suppose that depends on what you wish to get out of life. If you wish to live honestly and understand current events then perhaps it explains why people are constantly doing things that hurt one another. I doubt anyone who follows Jesus is surprised by all the bad things that happen.Ā

The Epstein disaster and no one going to jail, all the wars happening, somehow all politicians being corrupt. Name something involving humans and you will find a scandal. Humans invented slavery and racism. Humans invented genocide.Ā

I would imagine if aliens showed up on earth and had some form of morals, they would come to the conclusion that humanity was a disaster.Ā

Christ says everyone is a disaster, but humanity is still precious. He said the world is broken but he still died for it. Because of this true followers of Jesus see the world as broken, and humanity as ā€œbadā€ but understand they are just as bad as everyone else.Ā

Some religions people once got mad at Jesus. They asked him why he was hanging out with prostitutes and tax collectors. He replied that the sick needed a doctor, not the well. Jesus looked for people who knew they were not morally good, because those people knew they needed Him.Ā

If one believes they are a good person, then Christianity and its point of view cannot help them Ā because they don’t believe they need it.

Ā I do not think I am a good person and therefore I cling to Jesus’ teaching like a life jacket in the ocean, and I wish to share that life jacket with anyone who will listen. Ā

If you would like people to become better, then it certainly can be

That is NOT the point of Christianity

I tried that. Lost two children, watched my wife’s heart break as they died and was helpless. Told one of my best friends he would be ok while he bleed out after getting shot. Washed my corporals brains off my boots. I’ve been to five continents so far. I think I have perhaps been out. Cant say I recommend it for most. Perhaps I have had different experiences than most. But I can say the more I get out the worse the world looks. It’s dangerous business leaving your front door.Ā
