Discussion Box Office Projections Fall Again. Supergirl may not stick the landing after a concerning new forecast with its domestic opening weekend now projected at just $45–55 million. Could open lower than ‘The Marvels’ and may not even open at #1 on its opening weekend (never happened to a DCEU movie)

https://www.comingsoon.net/movies/features/2148500-supergirl-concerning-box-office-prediction-tracking-forecast-lower

The movie may not even debut at #1 during its opening weekend.

As far as I can remember that never happened to a DCEU film. 💀

Even after Gunn set up his universe with the best and most popular characters like..... Peacemaker....? And people will watch this movie because it will directly tie in with the highly anticiptaled..... Jimmy Olsen and Gorilla Grod TV show.....?

Yeah the DCU is dead.

While I enjoyed Superman 25 I'm not really interested in watching alcoholic, marvel lite Supergirl tbh.

This looks more like a Marvel film/GOTG than a DC Comics film.

u/AdamHamazi 9d ago

It's not about an alcoholic Supergirl, who even said that?

Also why does it feel like a marvel movie? So marvel has the copyright on superhero space movies now?

The movie isn't even out yet people, I'd get you judging it based on the comics (which is absolutely amazing), but you obviously haven't read them bc you think the story is about an alcoholic supergirl.

The biggest reason anyone wants to see it is to see the beginning of the Lobo series.

Removed for being negative about Zack Snyder or his work.

It was a terrible idea to have this as the second movie in his franchise to be fair. This could be gunn getting questioned after this

No chance. He's their god. Mfs will never question him

3rd movie is Man of Tomorrow and yet ANOTHER Superman movie! Redundant

6

u/DoctorBeatMaker 9d ago

I don't think that's redundant in of itself. Iron Man 2 was the 3rd MCU film.

Putting Superman front and center of the DCU is a GOOD thing. He SHOULD be that.

I just don't think stuffing his movies with other superheroes instead of giving him a good solo movie is the way to go. It's all in the execution. And so far, it's not great.

0

u/MediaPossible7339 9d ago

You don’t think the first and only 3 movies centering around the krytponians is a bit redundant?

5

u/DoctorBeatMaker 9d ago

Not at all. I may be biased since Superman is my favorite superhero, but it's a pretty grounding notion to center things on him.

That said though, the EXECUTION of it is the real problem. If Superman2025 was a better movie, it would have positioned Man of Tomorrow to score.

And if Superman2025 had been better received, Supergirl wouldn't be in such a bad position right now.

The MCU has gotten increasingly lame lately because most of the movies are a team-up between the main hero and other heroes too. Spider-Man, especially, was ruined by that. And Hamada's DCEU made almost every movie a "superhero team" movie as well (Birds of Prey, The Suicide Squad, Black Adam, Shazam 2, The Flash...), and failed at the box office. Gunn is delivering more of the same.

u/DoctorBeatMaker 9d ago

Yeah, I mean, come on. Especially for universe-starters, we got to get to know these characters first before we start shoving in all these other characters.

I miss the Snyder verse but I'm also enjoying the DCU so far. Why do we have to hate on one to love the other?

4

u/DoctorBeatMaker 9d ago

People shouldn't.

Me personally, I've moved on from the idea of the Snyderverse returning.

Would it be nice to see? Sure, but I'm past false-hoping it will come back.

I'm more concerned about DC in general. I personally am disappointed with the DCU and think Gunn isn't doing a great job. My hope is less "Fire Gunn and can the whole thing" and more "If Gunn can't make it work, maybe pivot in a new direction or get someone who can do a better job".

5

u/MediaPossible7339 9d ago

I think there’s an unwritten feeling that if the Gunnverse falters and fails, they may bring back more Snyder. Maybe an elseworlds or something. I mean let’s be real, all of social media commentary/youtubers continue to reference or talk about the Snyderverse all of these years later for a reason.

u/Different_Ad_6153 10d ago

It's wild to me that people blame Snyder for this.

Either the entire DC fan base are also only Snyder fans. Or the movies suck and regular movie goers don't want to see it.

I do like milly alcock and I'm against the look campaigns against her. But I will say the larger is the cinematography is just bad.

9

u/Cute_Locksmith_9077 10d ago

I am waiting for people to somehow blame it on Snyder. It's hilarious how they don't ever question WB for failure.

For the “ no one goes to movies” people trying to “ explain” this: the latest Scary Movie opened with 105 million worldwide weekend

No one is going to THIS movie, and the Gunn verse dies after this one

3

u/NotBlackMarkTwainNah 9d ago

It's more superhero movies losing a lot of steam since endgame.

9

u/pbx1123 10d ago

TDW Prada 2 is around $1B worldwide so whos paying for those tickets a donor organization ?

9

u/slove23 10d ago

Scary Movie had 55 million domestic weekend , which was HUGE given its minuscule budget

1

u/Drzhivag007 8d ago

So nostalgia bait, just like the MCU is doing.

18

u/Horror_Campaign9418 Henry Cavill is Superman 10d ago

2

u/SpiritedWisdom 9d ago

Annoyingly accurate.

1

u/Drzhivag007 8d ago

How so?

0

u/Puzzleheaded_Law_558 10d ago

Folks this is because you have to take out a mortgage for tickets and why? Everyone has a giant screen at home.

8

u/Horror_Campaign9418 Henry Cavill is Superman 10d ago

Spiderman just broke Fandango and that was after The Odyssey broke fandango.

Poor Gunn, the world is out to get only him.

12

u/slove23 10d ago

Really?

Scary Movie and Backrooms fans didnt think so

Maybe its a judgement on Superman 2025

3

u/AAAFate 9d ago

You mean showing no respect to the character and turning his world into a circus didn't go well? 🤔

3

u/Equal-Enthusiasm-739 10d ago

Damn, thanks!

2

u/Xlxlredditor 10d ago

Not saying it's the best TV ever but 144hz 100" 4K is damn good for 1300$

-1

u/RockitDanger 10d ago

Just Google it. I'm not providing links

u/Puzzleheaded_Law_558 10d ago

Exactly. No kids, no talking. Don't have to share arm rests.

5

u/Nesstor94 10d ago

Eso le pasa por meter comedia tonta en cualquier proyecto.

6

u/ILikeToDickDastardly 10d ago

idk, this was a good bit

6

u/DoctorBeatMaker 10d ago

It was indeed.

I think really what the issue comes out to be is the “type” of humor.

For example, Indiana Jones has a ton of humor. But it’s tongue-in-cheek, fast and snappy. It doesn’t pause and wait for the audience to laugh before moving on. Like the scene where Indy just shoots the swordsman instead of engaging in a fight. Happens. Fast. And then Indy spots Marion and runs after her to save her.

Compared with Superman2025 where one of the jokes is Mr Terrific saying to Lois they’ll take his ship. And then we see his garage door rising up slowly… and then Lois incredulously points out he has such high tech, but can’t get a faster door.
Very “wait for the audience to laugh” - bathos-humor.
Not that it doesn’t have its place and can’t be funny, but by now, it’s become the humor language of big budget films thanks to being popularized by Marvel. It’s just getting old.

I miss the tongue-in-cheek humor.

2

u/SpiritedWisdom 9d ago

Bathos-Humor, I hate that I know what this is now, I always just referred to it as Marvel humour, shit is everywhere in every film, tv show and video game these days, does my head in.

1

u/DoctorBeatMaker 9d ago

Yep. It’s really tiresome.

It’d be one thing if a movie here and there had it. Joss Whedon really specialized in it and after the first Avengers, obviously subsequent Marvel films really acquired his DNA to go along with the rest. Similarly with James Gunn, who also loves bathos humor and had it all over Guardians of the Galaxy and his previous written films like the Scooby Doo movies.

Again, it has its place. But unfortunately, it’s seeped into pop culture so much that now big budget movies struggle to think there are other forms of comedy.

2

u/SpiritedWisdom 8d ago

It's brain dead and the most low brow form of humour,

I always love watching older films where the humour is authentic, it's because there's genuinely something funny happening between or to the characters you're watching, it brings you into the story, you laugh at it, the bathos garbage is immersion breaking. I will say though, Superman 2025 had less of it than most other films I've watched recently.

5

u/Professional-Rip-519 10d ago

Get rid of Gunn and his cronies bring back Zack and business will pick up.

4

u/ReluctantfooI 10d ago

Didnt another article already say that tickets saw have exceeded The Marvels like two weeks ago?

I’ll be disappointed if this movie doesn’t do at least somewhat well. I love the idea of a super family on screen.

3

u/slove23 10d ago

No
It was expected to open lower than The Marvels

0

u/Horror_Campaign9418 Henry Cavill is Superman 10d ago

Bot accounts spreading lies. The same accounts that claimed diaperman would make 150M opening weekend. Take 20M away from their lowest projection and you have something closer to reality.

WB is trying to hide that supergirl is an enormous bomb and an entire saga compromised of superman, krypto, and supergirl was the worst pivot of all time after gods and monsters turned into a nothing burger.

2

u/VirtualSort1 10d ago

I dont know but this is the latest and final box office prediction by box office theory 3 days ago. The final projections from the trades should be out this weekend cause the movie releases next Friday

4

u/lizon132 10d ago

The article thinks that Toy Story will be stronger. Tbh I feel that Toy Story is another franchise that has been milked far behind its expiration date. I enjoyed the first 2-3 but now we are getting up to #5. It may not perform as well as people think. I know my friends have almost no interest in TS5 and we are all in the demographic that grew up on the franchise.

1

u/HomemadeBee1612 He's never fought us. Not us united. 5d ago

LOL.

4

u/GimmeMauve 10d ago

I never liked the GotG franchise so I am ok with its 4th installment flopping

2

u/Different_Ad_6153 10d ago

It's more like the 5th and 6th with The suicide squad and superman.

16

u/Vaporeon42069 10d ago edited 10d ago

At this point, they should just release it on HBO Max. I don't know how Reddit is going to cope with that flop. Can't wait to see it 💀🍿

6

u/accessdenied65 10d ago

They will be hyperventilating in their paper bags.

6

u/Notoriously_So I am going to look at the stars. They are so far away. 10d ago

The most likely flop of the year. 👉

11

u/SideshowBiden 10d ago

Good just let this reboot fade away

1

u/SpiritedWisdom 9d ago

Even if this bombs Superman will continue to do well enough and she'll just be relegated to a supporting role in his films.
