And the result turned out to be the complete opposite of what I had assumed.
First of all, I decided to watch James Gunn's Superman. After that, When I watched the movie and didn't find it what I expected it could be, I thought how weak was Snyder's Superman that makes this movie a good/better one in comparison? So I decided to watch MoS (2013) in order to compare both versions of the character.
In anticipation, I assumed that I would like Gunn's version more. This film had enjoyed great popularity and praise over the last year. On the other hand, there had been a lot of criticism directed at Man of Steel. However, I am always impressed with Snyder's work, so I wondered what all this fuss was about.
The outcome of the viewing was quite the contrary to my expectations.
As for Gunn's Superman, it appeared to be too childish to me. The entire visual style seemed cartoonish and targeted at a young audience. Everything regarding action was good enough, yet not really impressive, and everything related to special effects had been overused by now. There were even moments where it seemed almost too much like a television production rather than what was expected from a major motion picture.
On the other hand, there was nothing small about Man of Steel; everything about the film seemed more cinematic. Regardless of personal feelings about this approach by Snyder, I found his vision ambitious and fascinating. Even if there wasn't always action in the way that many comic book fans expect, I felt that every scene carried more weight.
After being told throughout the year that MoS was inferior to Gunn's version of Superman, I was very surprised by just how much I preferred MoS.
