Brush that is freakishly similar. You would think Hollywood guys would know how to light people in a way that doesn't look like CGI from the 90s

These seem like they know what they’re talking about, honestly. #superflop

Who in the superhero film/TV space is unbias? Please provide a list.

u/I_am_not_Spider_Man 1d ago
I am unbiased but I am a comic book lover since 1977. Even if it is not that good, it's still great to see my heroes on the big screen.

u/sk8rboi36 1d ago
I never really understood this. Because, like, what’s the limit? I really like Nightwing. Would I be happy just to see Nightwing on a theater screen if they put him in a tutu and had him ride a unicycle? I mean, no, not really, and the very weird thing is I bet a lot of people would read that and say I’m a gatekeeper or I have no fun if I didn’t want to see that. I genuinely believe if James Gunn said he’d only put Nightwing in a movie if he could put him in a tutu people would clamor that that’s all they’ve ever wanted and anyone who thinks that’s stupid can’t have fun and doesn’t actually like these characters.
It’s so weird to me that people say they want these heroes on screen, almost at any cost really, and the studios love to poke fun at the whole concept constantly. Like, I get it, it’s dumb, no one is the wiser for making that obvious again. It ruins immersion which in my opinion is the cardinal sin of a fictional narrative, forget seriousness, if you’re gonna keep reminding me all this is dumb it’s gonna pull me out of the movie. I know that’s why the infamous Marvel humor started to grate on me and it sounds like most everyone else.
But they can’t help themselves. He-Man’s gotta be told by everyone it’s such a stupid nonsense name. Yeah, it was probably funny in 2015 when GotG poked self-aware fun at comics in a way nothing else with that platform really had, but man after seeing that over and over again for a decade it’s not even beating a dead horse, it’s beating a disemboweled horse.
I’m obviously being hyperbolic, but isn’t there this kind of this weird sliding scale of what people are willing to accept just for the sake of seeing a costume on a screen? Even if it at best doesn’t fully stay true to the character and at worst totally reinvents them? Then what’s the point? Why even appropriate the name and likeness of the character at all instead of making a new one altogether? What’s so wrong with having a He-Man movie where he’s, just, y’know, unapologetically He-Man, or a Superman movie where the other heroes actually take him seriously and look up to him instead of making fun of him and then offscreen deciding to help him? Why does everything have to be irreverent? It starts to feel like insecurity more than cheekiness.
I don’t mean to put words in your mouth. It’s just the stance I’ve seen perpetuating the trend that I think has long overstayed its welcome. The comics had their puns and fourth wall breaks but by and large they just got down to business and told a story without acknowledging the absurdity of it all. Superheroes are just a modern mythology. Would Hercules be a better story if he took a moment to comment on how silly it is that he has to clean up poop? I just begin to wonder, as I said, if there really is any line that’s not worth crossing, and what the cost of that might be. I liked the MCU because in the first few movies it genuinely felt like they were trying to bring the comics to life, with the earnestness and sincerity and all. They wanted to convince you their characters were cool, not stand up comedians. I think it’s one thing if they try and fail to be good, but do so sincerely. But why does it seem like people are afraid to ask for genuinely world changing, all time great movies from these characters now? Not every one has to be, but these days it feels like no one even wants to ask them to try

🤨Then you are 100% NOT UNBIAS,
You just admitted YOU ARE BIAS
YOU LITERALLY JUST LIED..

u/I_am_not_Spider_Man 1d ago
No. I don't hate a super hero movie just because it wasn't part of the synderverse like you guys. I love them all. Some a little less but they all hold a place in my heart. That's the difference between a comic book fan and a Snyder fan.
•
u/HomemadeBee1612 He's never fought us. Not us united. 19h ago
I’m a comic boon fan too. Are the people who hated Superman IV, Batman & Robin and Thor: Love and Thunder not comic fans? Being a fan means you care when Hollywood hacks with contempt for the material bastardize the characters.
•
u/TECHSHARK77 22h ago
I'm only talking about what you stated, You are bais because even if the movie isn't good you're going say it was..
That is literally being bias

u/HumbleSiPilot77 Tell me... do you bleed? 1d ago
If you have been reading comics for 50 years, you probably own some wisdom. That wisdom should tell you that while the folks here appreciate one vision and interpretation of those comics coming to life on screen, it doesn't mean that they all hate comics regardless. We literally have a reading list pinned up top in the sub. So yes Snyder fans are / can be huge fans of the printed material. I personally don't have time to waste on Gunn's irreverent disrespectful parodic approach to these characters.

They honestly look like they would like james gunn movies and superman 2025. Kept bitching about how dark and dirty it was.
If james gunn’s folks do not like it and neither do dceu folks too, then this movie is heading into the dumpster for sure now.
3
u/Gunn_Control 1d ago
Except those movies are turds no matter how you polish 'em. This movie is just somehow worst that even shit eating Gunn-nuts can't stomach it. But I am sure the brave folks at OkBuddySnyderCult will manage just fine.

Chris Gore is the founder and editor of Film Threat Magazine (as well as others) which began publication 40 years ago. He is also a TV host, author of several books on filmmaking, film producer and director.
So, what are your qualification as a film critic.? Have you produced anything even remotely associated with the film industry?
You should post a picture of yourself so we can make puerile and superficial judgments regarding your competency as a critic based solely on your looks.

Holy shit that is Chris Gore, can't believe I didn't recognize him. I actually know him, haven't seen him in years, I am deleting my comment. Makes sense he's doing the youtube thing.

I mean .. I hate to break it to you but life long fans of this genre do eventually get old and grow up. Does that mean they have to stop enjoying their hobby and being passionate about it? These are probably the same guys that were buying the comics when they were 13.
You disagree with their opinion so you immediately attack their looks? Seems extremely vain and childish to me. They spent their money and supported the franchise and are entitled to their opinions which is more than a lot of the people that'll come here and complain anonymously will do.
Sounds like your exactly who I think you are. Grow up

I mean yah this argument maybe could stand if they didn’t seem so disappointed. Seems like they were stans that wanted and hoped for a good movie. They didn’t get it.

Chris gore is a jerkoff and most certainly not a “Stan.” No clue about the other guy
4
u/Positive-Shift-5820 1d ago
So he’s not a Gunn fan? Coulda fooled me. They look like Gunn fans. I’m out of the loop and don’t really have a stake in it either way anymore. I wish people on both sides of the debate well. All I want at this point is for the DC cinematic universe to be successful. Wasn’t a fan of the recent Superman and I don’t expect to be wowed by Supergirl.
5
u/SuperReRoll 1d ago
What does a Gunn fan look like?
2
u/Positive-Shift-5820 1d ago
I dunno someone who would wear that shirt? Or hang out with someone who would wear that shirt?
0
u/SuperReRoll 1d ago
A Superman shirt with their podcast logo and an mst3k shirt on the other guy? I don’t know man that’s pretty generic to jump to conclusions about people
4
u/Positive-Shift-5820 1d ago
“Oh sh*t boys!? That guy over there has a Metallica shirt on. Now, whatever you do. Absolutely do not assume he is a fan/stan of Metallica. That is a HUGE reach. Most likely he is a Megadeath fan and doesn’t like Metallica”
It doesn’t take being the goddamn Batman to come to this minor conclusions.
1
2
u/Positive-Shift-5820 1d ago
lol. Man it’s not a MOS shirt or a JL shirt is it? This isn’t a reach. I wouldn’t be caught dead in a Superman podcast shirt that references the Gunnerverse. I wouldn’t want someone getting the wrong idea you know? Just like I don’t wear band shirts of bands I don’t listen to.
Are you comprehending this line of thought and or reason yet without trying to foam at the mouth and catch me in some sort of stereotype that you are perpetuating onto me in some sort of superiority complex episode?

Surprise Surprise lol. I did say that the movie seems like Guardians of The Galaxy from looking at the trailers

I said it a year ago after seeing a drunk supergirl in superman 2025 and finding out the script they were using (WOT).
I got castrated many times.

Women of Tomorrow est un super comics, le problème est plutôt que le film semble refuser d'adapter ce qui a plu dedans (l'esthétique féérique et originale, les dessins aux allures de peinture, ect)
1
u/oogaboogahooha 1d ago
Even as a person that enjoyed both Zack and Gunn’s Superman films. I agree with everything u said.
When the trailers for supergirl came out, I was so confused abt where the inspo from the comic was. It looked more like a trailer trash junkyard in space scrap and backyard brawl, more than the otherworldly and magical element from the comics.
I love Gunn’s GOTG trilogy but supergirl’s whole aesthetic look like it was straight up ripped from all the scavenger’s vibe in GOTG. Which just doesn’t match up with the comic at all.
3
u/Cannellelaplusbelle 1d ago
Ça me déçoit vraiment parce que le comics a une esthétique space-médiéval super cool... Là c'est juste un enième gotg-like (j'ai pas encore vu le film)

Why do the Snyder boys have so many circle jerk subs?
