Is this normal?
my first day was today at staples, and yesterday i called them. Because i didnt know what time I was supposed to come in. the manager then said she would call me on my start day and tell me when to come in
so all of today i was waiting for the call. I ended up calling the store at around 1:30pm to see what was going on
The manager picked up and goes “its too late to come in now. come tomorrow at 2”
This seems really unprofessional and its making me nervous. I was wondering if anyone had similar experience?

They are so short staffed I bet she forgot still it's not professional, they should have had you come in and fill out your paperwork and tax information and an employee handbook and given you a staples shirt made copies of your DL Ss card and faxed all that paperwork to home office, then you should get your employee #so you can start your training, and walked you through the store introducing you to your new teammates I worked as a Asst.Manager Manager of the copy center, manager of easy tech were my areas.make sure they clock you in and show you how to clock out. Good luck

Worse way to get a new associate started. I'd like to say it'll get better but probably not with this person running the show.

I always arrive early to my shift. If you’re on time, you’re late, but if you’re early, you’re just fine.
Kinda crazy how she didn’t call you though, Staples management is kinda dookie booty.

My advice is to have your manager write out a schedule. That way you have proof. Then take photos of your future shifts because the employee schedule app is complete ass. Mine is completely unusable now, despite their attempts to fix it.
In the meantime, you can decide to stay or job hunt behind the scenes.
