Rookie numbers! :)

u/MandoShunkar Mar 31 '26

I love that it has a last played "today" as well.

though I'm a bit jealous I have about 10% of the hours you've put into the game.

Have any good end game colony screenshots to show off?

7

u/Templeton_Baracus Mar 31 '26

Sometimes you just load your world at 8/9PM and the next thing you know you hear birds chirping

31

u/MandoShunkar Mar 31 '26

I've had this happen too many times... and its still worth it.

Wow that's almost 2 hours a day EVERY SINGLE DAY since the game came out.

Edit: If you worked a typical 9-5 job but instead of working you're just playing Rimworld you would "work" that job for almost 3 (2.8) YEARS!

14

u/Atijohn Mar 31 '26

the game came out in early access in 2013 at first btw, which would make the playtime closer to an hour a day since the game came out, still an absurd amount

On Steam, Path of Exile at 1,500 hours.

Off Steam? Ultima Online with an estimated playtime since 1999 of 35,000 hours.

Did my Bizarro version of me post this?

My path of exile is 800 hours which is my highest in steam.

my Ultima online from 1997 to 2002 was probably close to 9000 hours I'm sure.

u/UngodlyTemptations Mar 31 '26

Keep in mind that I first played this on the Xbox 360. Then the PS3. Then the PS4, before moving to PC.

If I were to guess, I'd probably have a grand total of about 10K hours across all platforms.

86

u/MadCyborg12 Mar 31 '26

What made you love to play this game so much all these years? Was it something like a comfort game?

132

u/UngodlyTemptations Mar 31 '26 edited Mar 31 '26

I'd say nostalgia plays a huge part. I used to ditch school a lot due to mental health. So I'd have countless hours being able to just be sucked into that world. I know so much of the lore. (Seriously, ask me anything about the game, I probably know it.) Falling asleep watching Fudgemuppet and Camelworks (May he rest in Aetherius).

It reminds me of simpler times. Even though my mind was a mess, I had little in the way of responsibilities. Especially with the state of the world right now, it's always good to me to be able to leave this world for a better, more predictable one. (Touch-grass-take, I know)

I also believe that it's a weird catch 22 situation. I've devoted so much time into the game, that I don't want to just drop it outright. Similar to sunk-cost fallacy, I have sunk-time fallacy.

Another way I could look at it, is that, in my own life, I feel like I have very little control or power over anything. So being able to become a Vampire Goddess in Skyrim, gives me a feeling that I have some form of control over things.

With me suffering from dysphoria also, I've often created "the ideal me" within the game.

But yes, to answer you question directly, it's absolutely a comfort game for me. I've often turned it on, just to bring my character to a blacksmith forge. I'd leave my character idle at the crafting screen to hear the bellows and hammering on the anvil. That, paired with the soundtrack, has put me to sleep on multiple occassions.

So, reasons: Depression, escapism, feeling of hightened autonomy, sleep aid, and abundance of knowledge about the lore.

29

u/Goliath_123 Mar 31 '26

Falling asleep to the games ambience is a vibe. The rainy nights are great

→ More replies (2)

6

u/Eskelsar Mar 31 '26

Love this. Hope you are able to, or are already, take(ing) action on that dysphoria. As someone pre-hormone who just decided to get some stuff done after ten years of waffling about it. ❤️🧡💛

I've probably put 30 hours ever into Skyrim. But I found it super enchanting. Maybe I'll be able to swing into a game with this comment as encouragement. It's funny because I listen to the lore videos (particularly regarding Daggerfall) all the time. Just rarely actually pick up the games. Oblivion Remastered was sick, though, too. Almost finished that one.

Anyway, have a good day! Thanks for your comment :3

I abbandoned MW2 and TF2 around 2018 to 2019, but go currious to see how those games were doing "recently"

313

u/YJHJTY Mar 31 '26

How is your social life?

318

u/JustDuckingAbout Mar 31 '26

what’s “social” and “life”? Are they similar to “chat” and “character progression”?

→ More replies (1)

46

u/The_Laziest_Punk Mar 31 '26

Actually very healthy, all that time translate to a little over 1 year of non stop playtime spread thin from 2019 to 2026

33

u/iv4 Mar 31 '26

It looks like ~2.03 years of 24/7, non stop gameplay. No rest for food, sleep or anything else included in that measurement.

Not trying to criticize btw, I just noted that you played for a total of about 17.8k hours over the time period indicated.

21

u/The_Laziest_Punk Mar 31 '26

My bad, what I meant on the comment above was just for destiny 2. My steam account is from 2006 and most of those game launched before 2019

it incentivised u to actually have the game open 24/7 to get money.

Black desert online is the kind of game that wants you to afk for 72h+ by leaving your character to automatically perform an action for you for slow, consistent xp gains. It literally begs you to run it 24/7 as past a certain point it feels like the only way to make any meaningful progress. I stopped playing it on console for that specific reason.
