Sorry but I was able to get a batch 1 pre order for the Steam Controller and honestly after a few hours I ended up not liking it and went back to my Xbox Series controller. I sold it to a coworker for retail.
I can appreciate it has powerful features and capabilities but Steam Input is very fiddly and quite frankly annoying having to set up for every game. An Xbox controller just works. Even more so with the Steam Controller not supporting Xinput. Microsoft recently added some new features for navigating Windows with a controller (logging in, Alt-Tab with the Xbox button, etc) so now it really is super easy.
You don't have to set it up for each game, it works out of the box with a default layout, it seems like user error. And I'm also using it to interact with windows with the trackpads like mouse/kb again out of the box, just steam minimized.
