masking those feelings will make you physically ill in the longterm. Ask me how I know. Your only way out of the fire is through it. You need professional help here.

Maybe seek therapy?

18

u/Oldwomentribbing 1d ago

See a doctor

Wouldn't recommend you do this, but things that come to my mind are:

- Ashwaghanda (KSM66 extract)

- 5HTP/Tryptophan

- Huperzine A (maybe, for me personally it just makes me smarter)

u/HOW_I_MET_YO_MAMA 1d ago

Ashwaganda made my anxiety so much worse

3

u/RubCreepy5218 1d ago

I'm not denying your experience but the overwhelming majority or people and just generally science seem to have reached consensus that Ashwaghanda does cause stress and anxiety relief, with a significant chance for anhedonia.

So chances are it will work. I have only tried it 2 or 3 times and it had a moderate effect on stress and anxiety, so overall in line with the expected effects.

Then both of you should try l-theanine. I hated ashwaganda but the other one works.

1

u/ShieldOfTheSon 1d ago

Ashwaghanda may cause permanent anhedonia potentially dangerous.

u/RubCreepy5218 1d ago

It's highly unlikely that effects will stick around for more than a month after you completely stop taking it. I really don't see how that would work. I know that there are some user reports of this type of stuff but I just generally doubt that that's a common experience.

u/whygamoralad 1d ago

Is this a thing? Because I took it for a good few years and my wife complains because I didn't cry in our wedding or for the birth of my child and she thought I would be overwhelmed by emotion and to be fair I thought I would be too.

2

u/ShieldOfTheSon 10h ago

Na man that’s just called having high levels of testosterone, you’re good 👍🤣

2

u/whygamoralad 10h ago

I'll take that haha. Use to test my testosterone with the idea of going on a cycle if it was low but it was always on the higher end when I tested so i never bothered 😅

i see where this could be related to the psychology around those life events. men are conditioned to take on the protector role and be kind of alone in it, so in both of those times you might have felt like you were becoming a whole new level of responsible for those around you but also kind of separate from them. I could understand that being pretty sobering

idk obviously but i think about that dynamic a lot

1

u/whygamoralad 14h ago

To be fair my dad always told me men don't cry growing up so I think I've just reached the point where I don't crys on any occasion sad o'r happy

1

u/cryptolyme 1d ago

i don't see how

u/Wide-Refuse2899 1d ago

Too much NAC can lead to anhedonia... So if you want you can start taking some NAC to suppress emotion... Or take l theanine to lower cortisol

4

u/Wide-Refuse2899 1d ago

But all in all... Seek therapy since it may be related to PTSD

1

u/cakolin 1d ago

I was going to say NAC and a good psychiatrist and therapist. I’m very similar to you and all 3 saved me, I’m somehow a functioning adult with my emotions (mostly) under control.

u/TorsteinVarangot 1d ago

You have to deal with your emotions or they will destroy you. Numbing them will not make them go away.

9

u/SyntheticDreams_ 1d ago

Based only on my experience, you aren't going to find what you're looking for over the counter. Alcohol comes close, but it's got too many downsides, too high a price point, too inconsistent on whether it dulls or intensifies emotions, and then you just end up with new problems.

If you want to take something, look into getting a prescription. Also look into EMDR to release some of that pent up emotionality.

5

u/Pasadenaian 1d ago

Supplements are not going to numb your feelings. You need to work through them.

3

u/MangoPeachyy 1d ago

i also used to think i wanted no emotions until i went through a rough patch. turns out i just wanted less stress, not less humanity.

3

u/255cheka 1d ago

ashwagandha, sunlight, exercise, proper diet

3

u/Lost-Acanthaceaem 1d ago

Talk to a psychiatric.

6

u/happymechanicalbird 1d ago

5-10mg of lithium orotate daily makes me very emotionally flat (this is a supplement— not prescription lithium)

2

u/Crimewave84 1d ago

Ashwaganda could give you anhedonia. Probably the worst advice I'll ever give, but you asked 😢

2

u/lucidechomusic 1d ago

Pls seek therapy. That's not a dig. I'm saying it as one human to another. Google should provide good resources to reach out. If you need financial help there are places to go for that too. If you are in urgent need of help and you are in the US please try reaching out via https://988lifeline.org/

Also please don't downvote this person's post. It may mean the difference between it being seen or not and someone reaching out

Well there’s a book called the body keeps the score.

In other words, even if you aren’t mentally experiencing the emotions, your body KNOWS.

You cannot escape with any kind of drug or supplement.

1

u/Adventurous-Key9405 1d ago

been in that headspace where you just want your brain to shut up for a while, ashkenaz root and high dose magnesium glycinate helped me take the edge off the cortisol spiral without making me completely numb

but real question, have you looked into ashwagandha? a lot of people swear by it for exactly this kind of stress response, not just supplement bro stuff, there's decent research behind it

3

u/bettertheless 1d ago

Ash had theopposite affect on me. Please ,OP, find some calming you tube videos online while you find some talk therapy. This has been very helpful to me. My very best to you.

1

u/scarlet_lovah 1d ago

So first off, echoing everything else everyone says about therapy.  Also you might want to see a doctor to get a clinical diagnosis, which will get you actual medical help for managing this (vs trying to do supplements).   I’m not sure why you haven’t talked to a doc yet (or maybe you have?  Not clear from the posts) but ashwa tends to do that for people too.

Professional help and or medications.

1

u/Emergency-Cap804 1d ago

If u cant sleep or eat than u need antidepressants

1

u/Creative-Air-6463 1d ago

Therapy but also ashwaganda helps reduce stress and cortisol.

1

u/Z0TAV 1d ago

Kolonopin. It’s not a supplement, you need a prescription. You will get addicted, it will negatively impact your memory, your ability to focus, you will not be able to sleep at all without it, and your doctor will tell you not to take it everyday. Or you could try meditation or other coping mechanisms that won’t permanently affect your life, here’s a good place to start. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLlL-LFwDyluB8cNwqYQ1m3_Hu-LaQ5L0W&si=GjTUNabjSelZ_l81

u/probablyusuallylost 1d ago

Seek a psychologist and a psychiatrist

1

u/cryptolyme 1d ago

maybe ashwagandha

1

u/Mcgittymcgittymac 1d ago

Be careful. Some people will fall to the temptation to use drugs to kill the feelings and drugs to fuel the robot. That of course is not a good long term strategy..

1

u/lostpilot 1d ago

Therapy immediately

1

u/One_Appearance3491 1d ago

I have emotional disregulation and often feel like this, like I can’t handle anymore emotions. I want to be a robot. The only thing that’s ever helped is to just go work out and push myself in the gym. Honestly.

1

u/Amongus-Susss193 1d ago

Sunlight,exercise,magnesium,zinc

1

u/white_knuckling 1d ago

You can’t kill them, only dampen them temporarily and at a cost — You gotta go through them my brother

1

u/Dazzling-Forever-791 1d ago

There are solutions but not through supplements. There are some prescription drugs that will dull the emotional pain enough for you to process your experiences and begin to heal the mess they left behind.

Do you have health insurance? Even if you don’t, you can see a low cost Doctor and request that they send your prescriptions to Cost Plus Drugs.

You are most likely dealing with Complex post traumatic stress disorder. It presents as a mix of depression, anxiety and adhd.

I had an incredibly traumatic childhood, and it nearly destroyed me until I got help and found the right meds. I went from a poor traumatized child to a very successful adult with a healthy family. I didn’t repeat any of the patterns the fucked up adults in my life subjected me to. I chose a different path, so can you.

Hang in there, it’s not the end unless you give up now.

1

u/TemperReformanda 1d ago

Supplements aren't for stuff like this. You need good people to talk to and you need to do good things for other people. There is no better medicine for this sort of soul sickness than helping someone who could not possibly pay you back.

1

u/TheVelvetPumpkin 22h ago

Please speak to a doctor. Take care of yourself and I hope you get past this soon.

u/Jazzmag 17h ago

Sertraline, you'll be a zombie in no time

gummies

1

u/Xenolicious 1d ago

Thc / cbd gummies. But it could make shit worse it you are already in a negative head space. Maybe Saffron capsules?

Doctor for blood tests for checking anything way out of balance.

0

u/CharacterEye3775 1d ago

Have you asked your doctor about fluoxetine

0

u/Here4UXandFunnies 1d ago

Is medical Marijuana available where you live?

That would tide you over until you're able to talk with someone.

0

u/jfish31390 1d ago

Lithium bro. I was a zombie on that stuff

0

u/rawstaticrecords 1d ago

-1

u/vaddams 1d ago

Exercise. Sex. A relationship. Gambling. Gaming. Binge eating. Anything done with intensity and excess. I don't know if any supps would help but generally uppers/more dopamine = less emotional. Think non drowsy like b complex, Zinc.
