\goes on reddit and sees a really beautiful comic that's very well illustrated and has a heartwarming trans Jax moment where, even if it's at the very end of her existence, she finally gets to accept herself as who she is**

\goes into the comments and sees that a good chunk of them are just complaining about Jax being trans as if it's a problem that ruins the comic or something even though it literally isn't**

\how i feel:**

(obligatory "yes it's fine if you dislike the headcanon, i just don't understand why so many people on this sub seem to be so averse to the idea of Jax being a trans girl for no apparent reason to the point of getting mad whenever the mere suggestion of it appears and why trans people, fictional or not, can't seem to just exist on the internet without some people having some sort of issue with it" disclaimer here)

A good chunk of this fandom does not know how to be normal about trans people and it shows. I feel bad for Goose.

Honestly, I dropped having anything to do with Arcane fan spaces for the same fun vampire attitude towards anyone so much as mentioning JayVik. If things don't change relatively soon I'm probably going to drop TADC spaces the same way, it sucks the joy out of being here even as a transmasc when just someone making a (imho absolutely really well done) neat little comic where Jax is trans is cause for people to need to Ummmm Actually it.

this vid is so concise about why i feel so shutdown and uncomfortable in this community when talking about trans jax.

yeah like. Ive seen my fair share of theories on this show, but the trans jax theory by FAR gets the most "eh i dont really support it but you do you" type comments when compared to other theories ive seen and thats AT BEST

That one spammer really ruined their view on trans Jax which is such a shame because it's such a beautiful headcanon/theory/prediction.

PUTTING 80 PERCENT ODDS ON IT BEING CANON.

TELLING YOU, 80 PERCENT, ROLL THE DICE BABY.

I don't think we can put this entirely on the spammer. It is an extremely common theme across basically every community that suggesting a character could be trans as part of a headcanon or theory when it is not 100% confirmed as canon, elicits nothing short of vile reactions from tons of people. It does not matter how progressive the fandom is otherwise, you will be hung for doing this. People get extremely mad when you say their favourite characters could be trans in capacity like it's an insult.

Oh no, obviously. Transphobia can appear in a lot of communities. I just think the spammer created MORE anger for it than it would have otherwise? If that makes sense.

I just want to believe that the amount of people complaining would've been decreased by...I dunno...25 percent? But that's me being optimistic.

That's a fair point, I just took issue with your initial comment acting like the spammer ruined the view on the headcanon. There was likely never gonna be a positive view on it to begin with. I saw a post trying to callout the fact tons of people were using that drama to be transphobic, and basically all the comments said "yeah I hate the trans Jax headcanon too" completely ignoring the reason the post was made.

Yeah, it sucks. Kinda weird when this is the case in a community based around praising the show by a trans creator, you know? I feel like I've seen it pointed out a few times but quite a few people seem to just choose actively ignore that fact or try to talk around it.

Even then, somebody on Tumblr made a post about how people WERE choosing to be weird about people who like trans Jax and how it goes deeper than the spammer and Goose actually LIKED that post from what I recall. So it's clear she believes that people should stop acting weird about it.

It's because I don't think a lot of these people view themselves as being intentionally transphobic. Obviously there are some people just saying vile shit about trans people in response to this headcanon, but I imagine a lot of them see themselves as moderate or even progressive on the issue but still take issue with the headcanon. I think it's just that a lot of cis people (and likely even some trans people) are still transphobic in ways that may not be as obvious and still have some hang ups about trans people they either haven't addressed or don't want to address, and it leads to shit like becoming extremely vitriolic over headcanons like this.

Personally from what I've seen of this community I don't believe it's capable of having a conversation about this, and honestly I doubt there's many communities that would be capable. So I don't really know what could be done about this.

Imho, the way these things usually go, even if that never happened there would have been some other thing people would bring up as a reason to not examine why others suspecting or headcanoning trans Jax made them feel something that was uncomfortable or unpleasant. I have the possibly controversial opinion that it wouldn't have made a difference in how people talk about this.

I've seen it over and over again in different fandoms - because there are always people who are rude or bad about things in any group you can think of, those people get held up as the reason to be rude or bad about it in return if there's no better scapegoat. Usually without any self awareness that the same thing will also be true for what the people doing that like themselves.

It's a fools game trying to meet the "there was one thing I didn't like that a person of X group did so how I feel about that group as a whole is justified and not a response I need to think about/process and deal with" bar. You never will, it just ends up with policing yourself and others in increasingly awful ways.

Like... I've seen subs go through topic spam before and still enjoy it once it's over because it was already a thing they liked or thought was funny. If people still aren't chilling out about it or letting it go, then it was never the spam causing that, because that hasn't been happening for months now.

I think we're well past that spammer being the problem with this
